Everyone is upset with the deyonta davis trade but truthfully it was a genius move by danny ainge. We would of had deyonta davis who probably wouldn’t have played much and another guy that most likely wouldn’t turn out to b much. The Celtics got the clippers first round pick in 2019. This pick may b REALLY good. Both Chris Paul and Blake Griffin’s contracts both end after the 2017-18 seasons. AND Deandre Jordan has a play option for the 2018-19 season. Assuming none of them come back this team may b REALLY bad and we could get a REALLY good pick. So I believe it was an amazing trade by danny ainge and i’m excited to see what happens!

They needed to consolidate their 2nd round picks anyway so getting a 1st out of it was a good move.

It’s now been reported that the pick is lottery protected for 2019 and 2020. If the Clippers are as bad as you think they may be, then the Celtics won’t be seeing the pick.

As the user above said its lottery protected and most likely turn into a mid-late first rounder but I am sure most teams would trade 2 2nds who will probably never play for a 1st rounder all day. Its also another asset that could easily sweeten a deal to get things done. Good move for the Celtics

It wasn’t a terrible move, but the Celtics are still a treadmill team.

They’ve spent all this time collecting "assets" in the hope that they’ll be able to turn them into a star player. I don’t know if Ainge is being greedy or if teams just refuse to deal with him, but 2 straight drafts now where they failed to move multiple assets to get someone better. Having to select 3 draft n stash guys just because you don’t have roster space seems embarrising. Then they finally select a legit player (Davis) and they trade him for more assets. People love talking about asset collection and all, but this can’t be what Boston was hoping for.

Celtics fans simply wish the 3rd pick had more value. I did not. We will have to wait until we have enough fire power to land a big fish.

We could have prbly traded #3, 2017 Nets, Smart, Crowder and Bradley for Butler. But then the team would suck if we lost everyone anyway. Just have to develop these guys another year so they get even more valuable. Hopefully Brown transitions quickly and plays 20 min a game from day one.

Consolidating assets made sense, personally I thought they might flip 23rd, 31st and 35th for something towards late lottery but with so many teams having multiple picks trade up options were limited as teams just didn’t need additional picks.

What if Jaylen Brown turns into the superstar every Boston fan wants so desperately?

I don’t understand how people can say they are taking a step back when they made the playoffs and just added a top pick to their team. They need a star, we get that, but what’s wrong with continuing to add good players. It’s not like Boston is close to their ceiling yet. Their contention window is realistically going to be opening maybe next year. If they do it right, it will be open for a long long time.

Don’t be in such a hurry to be good for a year then fall off Boston fans. Let it marinate a little. Things could be a lot worse.
