If you were danny ainge what would you do with the celtics next year? To me this is the last shot at winning a title. Who would you trade and for what players? or would you try to keep the team together for another shot at a title… Also what 2 players would be a good fit for the celtics next year in the draft? thoughts???

I’d assume they’d look for a paul pierce replacement or something close. A player to develop at the SF. Or shit, they need a big man too. They need to address several things. I’m trying to figure out what they can get for KG at this point. I think they’d get more for Ray allen than KG. Pierce is most likely retiring a Celtic, the other two I don’t know.

Anyway, I think its either best player available, or they will probably trade up to pick up Austin.

Maybe trade up for Austin or PJ3. See if they can get Josh Smith he has wanted to play with Rajon for a while.

If Quincy Miller drops jump on him, he’s the perfect player to develop behind Pierce, high upside, low draft stock.

I think the Celtics need to find a way to draft Austin Rivers. He would work well with Doc, plus if he could have a mentor like Ray Allen for his rookie year or even part of his first year, it would go a LONG way for him for the rest of his career.

I would trade Bass and one of the picks to move up and get Rivers, then resign Jeff Green, Stiemsma, KG, and let Allen go or resign him really cheap..

Then go for some FA like Spencer Hawes

With the other pick draft a backup center (maybe Ezeli or Melo)

Give Jajuan Johnson some playing time as well, I think he can be a decent pf in this league

Refill roster with minimum salary players

    Rondo/Bradley

    Bradley/Rivers

    Pierce/Green

    KG/Green/JJJ

    Hawes/Steamer/Ezeli or Melo

draft quincy miller and fab melo, re-sign KG, stiemsma, bass and let ray allen go. i hope jeff green returns. then the celtics have rondo-pierce-KG as their big three, and a young group of players who can develop ( jeff green, avery bradley, bass, stiemsma, quincy miller, fab melo, jajuan johnson)

I really don’t like the idea of Rivers playing for the Celtics, the father-son dynamic would be too strange IMO, I hope the front office doesn’t do anything silly like trade up for him.

The two needs the Celtics need to address in this draft are a scorer to replace Pierce who can create his own shot on the wing, and a big man who can hit mid-range jumpers to complement Rondo when Garnett retires. If the Celtics are going to trade up for anyone, I hope it’s for Arnett Moultrie. He plays hard, is a solid jump shooter and is very mobile, which should allow him to play a Garnett style C for Boston if the Celtics want to go small.

If they use both first-rounders to get Moultrie in a package, they should re-sign Jeff Green to supplant Pierce down the line, re-sign KG for a couple more years to ease the transition and look for a big man in the second round like Renardo Sidney, Fab Melo or Festus Ezeli.

    Rondo

    Bradley/Moore

    Pierce/Green

    Moultrie/Johnson

    Garnett/Stiemsma

I see you are giving my celts good suggestions, i hope Danny Ainge is reading this.

Love the Quicy Miller draft, i would also suggest Waiters or Harkles if they fall a bit.

In the second round nab Sacre or Sidney ( Kg can yell at him until he loses weight 😉

Use the Ray Ray money to sign the most decent big avaliable.

I think that should be a mistake not to keep and extend their key players (garnett and allen). Both could be solid starters (to preserve their ego…) even if they see limited playing time as SA did this year with duncan for example and ginobili (to preserve their body…). Garnett is now a full time center (effective on D and O), allen is still a more than servicable player… and they are maybe the most competitive players in nba… major issue in PO.

Bradley is a great player from the bench (complementary with allen moreover) and he can play limited minutes at pg if need be. Bass and him should form the spine of the bench with… jeff Green (they should try to keep him). But nobody knows clearly how he will perform so they should have a plan B with a prospect from the draft (draymond green, quincy miller, royce white, moe harkless, jeff taylor …?)

Dooling, hollins, pietrus, pavlovic can all be replaced easily. They should try to keep daniels who is with the team for a long time now (brings experience as a veteran) and stiemsma who is a solid defensive back up big man and could form with an improved jajuan johnson a very serious frontcourt from the bench on D.

The celtics have only 6 players under contract for the next season : pierce (16M and then 15M) rondo (11M and then 12M 13M) bradley (rookie contract ) bass (player option worth 4M) johnson (rookie contract)… that’s to say around 35.5M with a projected salary cap between 58 and 61 M… they should have between 20M and 23M to spend on the FA after signing the prospects they draft.

    F.A. : I have

Kris Humphries : he’s hated ?… maybe but I don’t give a sh*t. This kid can play. Great rebounding machine, can score, good on D. If he’s not too greedy, he could be an option.

Ryan Anderson : my personal choice. Can score a lot, underrated on rebound. Competitive and always on the increase.

Spencer Hawes : centers are expensive but hawes is a really good team player. Underrated on D, able to speed up the flow of the ball thanks to his passing skills. But it should force KG to play pf again…

Draft : by order and if available of course…

The celtics should try to trade for another 2nd round pick (against some future 2nd round draft picks for example or cash). This year’s draft seems very deep with interesting prospects or already solid players in the 2nd round (machado, t.taylor, buford, d.miller, joseph, d.green, f.aldemir, k.papanikolau, sims, young, j.taylor, m.denmon, j.cunningham, k.murphy, j.crawder, d.miller, d.lanb, j.jenkins … could all fall into the 2nd round and seem in my mind very good options).

21 : doron lamb, dion waiters

22 : quincy miller, draymond green or royce white

51 : scott machado, tyshawn taylor

Machado in my mind could be a very good option (playmaker, competitive, hard worker) but Ty Taylor could be interesting too (athleticism, toughness, punch) learning his job behind rondo. Doron Lamb as enougth scoring/shooting skills to be a nice addition but Waiters. Every choice as a sf back up could be interesting : I’d bet on white first.

I like the idea of trading (the two 1st round) to move up on the board… but I’d rather keep those picks cause this draft offers lots of intriguing prospects who could develop as great role players and allow boston to build a deep roster. This is a need for boston if they want to reduce the playing time of his big three. Nevertheless IF boston is able to trade and move up in the draft they should look at drafting john henson. He would fit perfectly next to garnett.

    GARNETT (25/30min)

ANDERSON, HAWES or HUMPHRIES (30 min)

    PIERCE (30min)

    ALLEN (25/30min)

    RONDO (33/37min)

    STIEMSMA (10/15min)

    BASS (20/25min)

    GREEN (20/25min)

    BRADLEY(20/25min)

Draft : MACHADO or TAYLOR (10/15min)

    Draft : WHITE, D.GREEN or MILLER (0/10min)

    JOHNSON (0/10min)

Draft : LAMB or WAITERS (0/10min)

    MOORE

the only problem with signing Anderson or Humphires is going to be the Cap space. Ray and KG wont come back for cheap enough to sign either of those guys. However the celtics still hold bird rights to J Green.

I don’t know why people keep on saying the Celtics should draft Austin Rivers.

That would be a HORRIBLE idea.

    1. The whole brother son dynamic would bring a lot of drama to the lockerroom especially since there are already other players at Rivers’s position

    2. Rivers is ball dominant and so is Rondo. And I don’t think Rivers’s as a sixth man will work out because of the expected ego of a top recruit.

    3. Rivers doesn’t fit into the team concept at all with the Celtics. He’d be exposed immediately because he’s not good enough at defense. And he’s score first, and almost every player on the Celtics loves to pass the ball.

    4. How do we know if Rivers is even better than Avery Bradley? Bradley was the #1 recruit in his class and most probably already has a better shot than Rivers will in his rookie season. Bradley is also vastly more athletic and is already one of the best defenders in the league.

Celtics Next Year should look alot like the celtics this year.

If I where Ainge I would resign the following players,

KG , no more then 2 years

J Green, no more then 3 years

Ray, no more then 2 years

Steimsma, no more then 2 years

    Pietrus, 1 year deal

    Dooling, 1 year deal

Hollins or Wilcox, 1 year deal

Brandon Bass I would not offer more then a 1 year deal, he is very unlikely to except this. In the event that he leasves Ainge can try to S&T him for another servicible big like he did last year with the Bass for BBD trade.

With these moves the Cs roster would be the following

    PG Rondo

    SG Avery Bradley

    SF Pierce

    PF J Green

    C KG

    6th Ray

    7th Steimsma

    8th Pietrus

9th Wilcox/Hollins, or J Johnson (if he develops over the summer)

With the draft My best case would be to trade the 21,22 and possilby Johnson to move up for 1. Sullinger 2. T Zeller 3. Leonard Meyers.

If trading up isnt possible I would want the Cs to draft one of the following wings in this order 1. Harkless 2. Q Miller 3. J Taylor 4 Jae Crowder . Taylor and Crowder are the most NBA ready while the other 2 have alot more potential. With the second frist round pick I would want the Cs to go for some size 1. Leonard (not likely to fall to 20s) 2.Moultrie 3 Festus Ezili 4 Andrew Nichloson 5 Fab Melo. I am also high on Drymond Green but would prefer the Cs to trade down to 29-32 range if they draft him.
