Celtics and the 19th pick
I dont think this topic has been created so I will create it. I am a Boston celtics fan and was wondering who you think they will take with there 19th pick? I hope that they can add some depth to the wing in the upcoming draft. I think they could take a players such as Gordon Hayward, Quincey Pondexter, or James Anderson. I honestly doubt that Anderson will fall to them but you never know. He could be good replacement for Allen down the road. Hayward will always be good man off the bench for years to come and maybe could become average starter. I really feel that Pondexter will be on the board and if so I hope the Celtics grab him. He has a limited celing yes I know, but I feel he can come in and play off the bench from day 1. I also feel that Henry, George, Babbitt will also be off the board.
Any ideas or opinions on the matter?
what about grooming a young point guard like Bledscoe?
Sure you guys have Rondo who I believed was extended this year...but depth at the point always nice.
A quick glance at their depth chart shows that Celtics don't need someone who can be an impact right away so they can take someone to groom (Bledscoe) or an energy guy off the bench
I can see that point as well, but I feel that in the 2nd round it is possible grab a backup PG. As for Bledsoe he would need to be groomed for a few years. I wish he was just a little taller because then you could play him off the ball like they did at Kentucky.
I assume they take a guy that is already NBA ready and that can play right away. I'm sure they would like someone to develop, but the team is getting older and anyone they draft is going to be younger talent than what they have. I don't see them getting a backup pg just because Rondo plays so much. Even if they don't keep Nate, the way the team is built they can probably pick up someone solid for the minimum. They just need someone that is not going to kill them when Rondo is sitting. I assume that they would likely get a sg/sf though to try to cut down on the minutes for Pierce and Allen. Daniels was suppose to do that this year, but he really didn't do much.
I've heard that they are high on Solomon Alabi. I think they will take him or an energetic, defensive-minded wing player like Quincy Pondexter or Damion James.
Maybe they have to draft someone who can play PF/C because KG and Sheed aren't going to get younger and I doubt that Perkins, Baby and Shelden Williams can win on their own, although they are very servicable players.
the ideal pick for them will be Avery Bradley, he could be perfect for them, he can back up Rondo and also Allen, he will be great fit with his defense, they will hope he fall for them and if not they will have some other options wings or bigs.
I think he could be very good player in the league, but I dont think he fits the celtics needs. Allen could be gone after this year we don't know and Pierce is getting older. Bradley and Rondo I feel wouldnt play well together. Rondo needs guy who can hit the open shots and some difficult ones like Allen did last night. Bradley isnt that guy. All the SG's I could see them taking would be gone such as Anderson and Henry. I think its a reach here to take Crawford or D Jones out of FSU. The Alabi idea isnt a bad one because Perkins does need an actually Center to back him up. I don't think in this draft they really need a PF because Wallace and Garneet have 2 more years under contract and davis and S Williams are still around. When you mention 4 guys at Pf why draft that? I think it comes down to if they think Alabi can be a good solid backup, or if they find swing man who can provide depth to back up Allen and Pierce. If I was Celtics Pondexter would be on the top of my list. Followed by players such as Alabi and Hayward.
I will &$#%#&@! a green kitten if they draft Babbit...I want him on the Bucks...Alabi is a reach....Hayward is a perfect fit too...I think he should go to the Celtics for all the Larry Bird Stuff that will get thrown at him...Their or the Pacers of Course...I think Stern would love having Hayward leading the Celts if the stars go on strike after the CBA goes bye bye...That would really interesting for a year...
I honestly dont hope hayward is drafted by the Celtics. I think hes career 6th man type and will never be strong enough at defense to justify starting. Alabi is a bit of a reach maybe they could trade down 4-6 spots and get him then, but Im afarid that Thunder may take Alabi if Sanders is off the board. Also dothink Ainge could give 2 shats what david stern wants.
I think you are right about a backup to Pierce and eventually his replacement. But no one has mentioned Damion James who is even more polished than Pondexter is. If I were a Celtics fan this is how my draftboard would look at the the 19th pick
^I mentioned Damion James lol
