Ok ik this is a bit of a reach but its bcuz im a huge fan of the celts and its okay to drean sometimes. But in the offseason and the celtics got a top 3 pick (this is saying if thon maker is eligible for the draft, and the bulls are willing to do this) would you trade all of your first round picks and maybe like avery bradley to get jimmy butler? Or would you draft one of the only good 3 prospects in this draft (thon maker, ben simmons, and brandon ingram)? If we would be able to get simmons or maker in the draft or got butler would we be able to attract durant? I think this offseason could be VERY interesting and im looking forward to it. Want to hear what some people think about this

White Lion, I dig your style.

Firstly: I don’t think anyone can say what Kevin Durant wants to do with any certainty. There might be factors outside of Bostons control that makes them stand no chance whatsoever. But…you gotta give it a shot.

Getting Simmons or Ingram would help the team either as C’s players, or trade bait. In fact, once the lottery is drawn, if the C’s get a top 2 pick, they can turn that into Jimmy Butler or another All-Star on the trade block with probably just a little bit of sweetener on top. However, if it falls to #3 or beyond, you have to start adding more and more to it (Smart, Olynyk, Crowder, more picks etc).  If they keep him and they turn into All-Stars, that makes them a free agency destination but thats something that can’t be counted on (ask the Knicks, Lakers, Mavs etc).

Regarding Maker, I’m a fan too. But he won’t go #3 and he certainly isn’t enough at this stage to lure a bigtime free agent. He’s unproven, only 19, and more upside than substance at this point. For what it’s worth, Jamal Murray is my man at #3. Although, for both those guys, to actually be the level required to seriously help a team be a contender is a long way off.

Nonetheless, the C’s do indeed have an interesting off-season ahead of them. They’ve been smart this far, and have resisted to urge to make trades for overrated stars that carry baggage.

i really like how they are set up.  they got 3 picks in the 1st so they can let some guys go and replace them with youth.  sully is a restricted free agent and his ability to stretch the floor is something an ellenson or bender can bring to the table.  crowder or turner are both unrestricted free agents and a guy like denzel valentine would be a perfect replacement for turner with their next pick.  throw crowder a nice deal for 2-3 years as well.  then with the last pick, they can swing for the fences with a euro or maker or diallo or maybe get another long wing with like lavert or prince.

they’ll still have a good amount of free agency money if they decline johnson and jerebko’s contract options and lee’s contract comes off the books.  think the future is pretty bright.

Jimmy butler is a good player but no way in hell would I trade all three first round draft picks this year AND Avery Bradley to get him.  with a little luck, they might get poetl with the 12th or 13th pick.  If not go for Henry Ellison.

I have been thinking(Ainge Too) this since they started the rebuild how and who to trade multiple picks to to move up in the draft. Unlike the NFL draft picks lower in the draft and second round hold such little value teams in the lottery almost never want to trade down. The roster is small and teams would rather have one player who is going to be good or maybe a role player at least. Guys down in the draft are really unknown if they will ever contribute.

So having the 16 and 23 approximately this year. Trading those two picks similar to last year to move up to say 8 or 9. Teams just don’t want to do it. I keep trying to figure out which team needs some depth and would do something.

Thats why I really wanted to play RJ, Rozier this year to see if they could gain some value to be added to a trade.

I would hate to see Smart or Crowder get traded but those are the chips we have with the most trade value.

If the pick lands one or two teams will be clamering to trade for it. But it also might be smarter to hold on to that pick and try to upgrade else where.

Wild card would be the Kings say if the pick lands 4 would they do 4, 16, 23 and say RJ or Rozier. Hopefully we could keep the team together they way it is. the kings could then start over. Have 2016 4,8,16,23 and then a top pick in 2017 since they would be the worst in the leauge.

Ok re-reading that ofcourse the Kings would surely require Smart to be included in the trade for Boogie if this years pick is at 4. Maybe if it landed 1 or 2 they would pull the trigger not needing Smart.

Not sure what is coming, but what a great position the C’s are in. They have tons of picks, both this year and beyond as well as young players and plenty of cap room.

I do think that this summer is the time to strike. They have so many assets that it makes sense to trade quantity for quality (reminds me of the KG trade). Hell, Ainge was ready to give up 6 picks to get Winslow last year.

That’s the problem, finding a trade partner who wants to do that kind of deal. The other team has to be in a position where they need to blow things up and start over. That’s why Chicago and Sacremento  have come up.

Trade for Cousins (give them as many picks and whatever backcourt talent it takes to make it work, including Smart), and make a run at the top tier of free agents, including Durant and Horford.

I would rather add a top-notch veteran than any of this year’s picks. I don’t think any of them are a transformative player who you absolutely would not trade.

    No need to trade anybody.

    Murray-Durant-Horford.

A big with the mavs pick, eurostash after that.

    Thomas-Bradley-Durant

    Smart-Murray-Crowder

    Now we’re talking….

This would be like finding the Holy Grail! Plus we would get another good pick in 2017 from the Nets.

Danny Ainge has numerous options, he won’t rush into any deal. Once he finds out where the Nets pick ends up after the draft lottery then he’ll have a far better idea of what his options are. Don’t forget the Celtics also own 13th,22th,31st,35th,43rd,53rd and 58th pick, have a great team option on Amir Johnson too. I could see them looking to package 13th,22nd,31st probably to see how far they would move up. A package of those picks and Johnson’s expiring deal could bring a decent player in.

I don’t see Ainge rushing to trade away those Nets pick options ubtil he knows what they might bring. If the pick is say 4th to 6th then it could be in play but if it could be Simmons or Ingram then he’ll draft them. I could see him doing this each year so he knows exactly what the pick is worth and won’t give away the chance to draft any elite talents.

The Celtics have already won 45 games this season so lets say they end up at 48 wins. Add a top FA to that and you probably get a 55 plus win team before you even consider who they add via the draft.

Which team could you see trading down their pick for the 13th, 22nd and 31st and Amir?

In reply to MarkFritz14, the 13th,22nd,31st and Amir would be what I thought the Celtics might use as a trade package to try and get an established star in. Amir has that nice $12 million team option so any team looking to save cap space might be very interested in it.

Of all the Celtic possibilities, I actually think Al Horford is a very possible pickup. Of course I am hoping that Boston can get a top 2 pick. If those 2 things happen, I believe it will at least “peak” the interest of Durant. There really are so many combinations of players Boston can end up having, it really is making me impatient for the offseason to begin.

Like it or not Boston will be back STRONG next season.
