Can't Make This Sh!t Up...

Lianeglo and Lamelo have signed to a B level Lithuanian team in financial crisis, no GM, rare practices, and a losing culture. BIG BALLAS!!! So, how long do they last and what makes them leave? I say 2 months and culture shock. You guys?

Mr. Ball should buy the team,

Mr. Ball should buy the team, provide the sneakers and allow both of his sons to be player/coaches. If young Melo scores 90 a game, he probably lands somewhere on the 2020 mock.

Obviously it would be a package deal...you can't draft Melo unless Gelo is his Head Coach.

Why a Package Deal?

I understand LiAngelos options were limited as there was no way he was humbling himself enough to transfer and play 3 or 4 years at a school like Gonzaga that thrives off of second chance transfers. Had to stay relevant, so s splash pro contract immediately does that.

LaMelo doesn’t make sense to me. For his class he was trending towards the top. Assuming the UCLA bridge was burned, I still think Melo would have played high major college basketball. His athleticism has gone through the roof in the past year, and if a coach could humble him a little bit and make him a little less of a chucker he could be a great college guard. That is why I don’t understand grouping him in with Gelo in this screw the school system route. I fear he will never get a shot now.

On the surface it would seem

On the surface it would seem as if 2nd division Lithuanian League basketball could be the best they could do, but below the surface, they won't be playing in the "A" league, might not get many minutes at all even in 2nd division games, will play home games in a 1500 seat arena, reportedly take home like $500 a month, on a team and for a coach who traditionally don't play foreigners.

Financially they could've done way better, but I guess pay wasn't an object. If marketing was the goal, signing with a poor, small town, financially struggling Lithuanian team makes very little sense. They coud've gotten paid more and would've gotten more visibility playing ball in Japan IMO. Word is that they play a style that is very free-flowing and 3 ball heavy so if they do get minutes they could fit in in that aspect, but I wonder if these grown men will take kindly to American teenagers who were essentially signed for marketing purposes. I personally wouldn't be betting on the Balls lasting the entire contract.

They could've even done what

They could've even done what Terrance Ferguson did and go to Australia. Not heaps of minutes but a chance to improve playing against grown men. And an as yet untapped market for BBB.

Possibly, but are Australian

Possibly, but are Australian teams THAT desperate for marketing and have 2 roster slots to waste? Do they have a second division where these kids could actually see the floor? Just taking a look at some of the names in the Aussie league, I assume they are a little more competitve than Lithuanian 2nd division, but then again I don't know much about either league.

There's a few teams that are

There's a few teams that are more style and less substance (eg Sydney Kings) that are doing poorly and might take a flyer. Again, there wouldn't be many minutes, at least at first, but the NBL is an improving league. Still below the top Euro leagues (and above others like the Lithuanian league), it depends what the Balls are after. To get better or to play (not necessarily the same thing).

There is no 2nd division, Basketball isn't really big enough here yet for that.

Maybe in 10 years or so,

Maybe in 10 years or so, there will be a 30 for 30 special on all of this. And it should focus on how a father absoutely ruined so much fun and memories of 2 kids who should have played and enjoyed some high level college basketball. Instead both players are being forced to grow up quick. All Because the father is an EGO maniac who CAN NOT stay out of the spotlight. He is a mental midget who can not see how he is ruining his son's life.

And before someone says "Lavar" got them there and is a loving father etc.. has nothing to do with his current decisions and obsesions with his sons, who are nothing but puppets for his own self-servering gratifications.

If you think Lonzo has a target on his back in the NBA, wait till the brothers start playing overseas where they hate most American's to begin with but Far more for 2 EGO maniacs trying to shine on their behalf.

To be fair they have always stated they wanted 1 and done..

Firstly a 30 for 30 special would be a fair call lol.

Maybe there is another angle for what they are trying to achieve right now:

It could be one of two things to be honest:

He wanted his boys to get experience to what Lonzo is going through now(on a lower scale) and the Level of grown men,a 24 second shot clock like NBA will toughen them up for their end goal..Which maybe Lavar/they didn't believe college fully prepares them for.

or

Maybe just Maybe Lavar didn't want the NCAA making money off his sons while his family weren't compensated for their services, outside the scolarship which they probably could have afforded anyway or going to use to its full potential.... See Ben Simmons one and done doco for another example of this sort of situation..

To be fair though Liangelo was probably going to be suspended at least 3/4 of the season which would have derailed their original family plan-ONE and DONE which they all agreed to + effected their FAMILY brand(To be fair don't feel to bad for the kid they bought him a ferrari for doing nothing lol).

Worst case scenerio for him is this:Gelo plays some Ball overseas and he makes some money and then goes and works for the family brand(assuming lonzo's/Lamello's career goes as projected)

As for Lamello,Didn't appear to see School as big priority, he is was being treated like a celbrity even before the Dad started talking on T.V (which may have distracted him from the end goal) and the own Shoe pretty much ruined his liklihood of every playing College ball/being normal... Which he didn't exactly say Dad don't make the shoe I want to play for UCLA...As for worst case scenario for him due to playing overseas now:

Is he makes some money off the shoe now(which he wouldn't have got going to college),goes lower in the draft than he would have if he had been state side due to more exposure...As he has the skill set that should at least get himself drafted...

I guess the last point I will make is this though when they lauched their brand their sole goal is this take care of their family... Is the cringefest needed all the time no ,but what it does do is extend there 15 mins of fame and helps their brand make money now by all the free marketing they get from it,assuming they are smart with the money they make now they will have millions and their whole family is taken care of for life..

Don't get me wrong though some of the Lavar sound bites are not needed though as it could definitely hurt the boys situation or it could also be use to try push the buttons of the team/Boys to get them to try harder to prove him wrong..

20 years ago Lavar Ball was

20 years ago Lavar Ball was watching Denzel Washington coach up Jesus Shuttlesworth in the block buster film "He Got Game" then he looks at the baby crib, then back to Denzel, then the crib again. Then he gets that stupid grin on his face...has to be

They won't have long pro

They won't have long pro careers if they have careers at all. The Australian 2nd tier is ok, or it used to be. I haven't followed state league in any state for a while. There has always been a few guys getting paid as imports, but most of the squads don't get paid. I played this level, we had some guys that were end of nba bench type guys and ex overseas pro players soon to be ending their careers eg. Curtis Blair that played for the Rockets in the late 90s is really the only NBA name I can think of but there are more. I dont know if Lavar's two small Balls can play at this level. They won't be scoring 90 I can tell you. They'll be extremely lucky to average double-digit points. In that sense it's probably a better level than Lithuania B. For reference on strength of that level of Australian ball, look at the teams that played against Markelle Fultz and Washington last year when they visited.
