PaulsJayhawksParticipantThere is no doubt Calipari is a great recruiter. With Knight, Kanter,Jones and Lamb he has esentailly replaced last years class and will do so again with Teague, Davis, Gilchrist. The thing is can these teams actually win a NCAA Championship. I think it takes some glue guys and some experience to win. What does everyone think will one of these super freshman teams ever win?

mikeyvthedonParticipantI felt that way after Syracuse won in 2003, but it has not been a consistent thing by any means. Yes, I do know that Cuse had Hakim Warrick, Billy Edelin, Kueth Duany and giant Craig Forth, but they were definitely led by Melo and Gerry Mac. I think with Kentucky, what is going to end up happening is that certain players will end up staying for a longer period of time, I do not see 5 first rounders coming out as underclassmen time after time. I am guessing that out of their 4 top level talents in their recruiting class, either Terrence Jones or Doron Lamb has a solid chance of coming back. Daniel Orton leaving after his first year I will attribute to his gigantic frame, and think it will not be a huge trend with wing players. They will more than likely have this happen from time to time, and this will indeed make them a very scary team. I do not expect it with this recruiting class, but the 2011-12 season they should be quite stacked. It will be very hard to win back-to-back championships in this format, but one is really all you need to start, and if he wins one every few years, that is pretty awesome for the Kentcuky program. So, for now, I think what Kentucky seems to be doing will end up working for them, just might take a while for Calipari to build the base for it too.

ChewyParticipantwill be able to continue to win year after year after year. Then the NCAA will catch Calipari, Calipari will move onto another top program in need of a coach(and instant wins) and then Kentucky will lose at least a year or two wins.
(and the entire time I will enjoy watching the freshman all-star teams he puts on the floor)

stanford hoopsLol. Catch him doing what? He’s done nadda. Now if u mean his players doing something to get introunle that’s a different story
Marcus camby accepting money from a agent as a jr in college
Derrick rose and family having someone take his test before coming to Memphis
Both programs got in trouble because of what those two players did

ChewyParticipanthe is directly to blame in every instance. I am just saying that programs run into trouble when they have him as their coach. I mean NCAA got Kelvin Sampson on “making too many calls to prospects” haha really? Players can hit the FU button on the phone just as easily as I can when my ex calls before 2 am. But, it can be said that Calipari recruits high risk/high reward players. He tries to get the cream of the crop and those players are exposed to boosters and agents and easy money, which leads to scandal.

stanford hoopsEvery one recruits these high risk high reward players. All his top
players were recruited by duke, unc,Kansas,Memphisu never know wit the players in some cases. If I had to pick someone having another person taking there s.a.t I would have picked cdr or forest before guessing rose

knicksfan7ParticipantCalipari needs to recruit some Patrick Patterson type players who he will have for 2-3 years to compliment his freshman all-stars in order to a national championship. If he doesn’t do that he may never win a national championship.

ChewyParticipantrecruiting these players then why do these type of players choose Coach Cal instead of Coach K? It is because some coaches are more comfortable w/ under the table and off the books dealings. These players spend the majority of their time with the team and even though the coach might not be directly involved, some coaches won’t look harder into things that seem shady. Coach K uses his winning tradition to get players, while coach Cal uses his track record for producing NBA players to recruit. Therefore, Calipari needs these players more than other coaches. How many All Americans have left the Duke program in the last 5ish year and they are still goin strong.

ChewyParticipantI think Calipari thought that Bledsoe and Orton were going to be at least 2 yr players.

stanford hoopsactually the players that go to duke end up not being as good as people thought. the come in as all americans but once there they take a couple of seasons to be good nba prospects and even then they dont end up being that good. recruits see that and thats probably why some of the top ones decide to pass on duke. dont get it twisted even the duke players wanna be one and dones but they end up not being good enough to do that
Cal has sshown that he doesnt NEED these players when he was with memphis and winning with just one one and done player or none at all
players picking cal has nothing to do with under the table dealinbgs and everything to do with getting to the nba. also coach ks hands arent clean at all. when he got corey magette his family some how was able to afford to move there into a house that they had no way of affording. The bank that got them the place just so happened to be run by a duke alumni
Brand had a landcruiser while at duke with very nice rims that he nor his family could afford

boxn1ParticipantI would have to doubt Kentucky’s chances, too many new players coming in and being forced into big roles. Patterson was a first round pick who happened to be with the program already,no such luck this season. They are basically starting over. But unless any of these incomming freshmen have a monster year i expect most if not all to return, even though 1 will proboly make the mistake of leaving early.
But i don’t believe Cal gets enough credit for being a good coach on the court,he gets good talent, and gets quite a bit of production out of them. Memphis in 07′ or this past years Kentucky team could shoot their way out of a paper bag, and every team they played knew this, but they still get to the championship game (and blow it) and to an elite 8. They play good defense, share the ball offensively, and play with a physical, intimidating mean streak.0 - Posted on: Fri, 08/27/2010 - 8:29pm #387735

The8thDeadlySinParticipantWell it depends on what you mean by “win.” The way I look at it, Cal didnt really win much.. Yea he won a buch of games and he is a popular guy with Lebron and other great NBA players.. But, he didnt win what he wanted.. He was the winner of a game where he got out coached.. He is the winner of 5 great players leaving..
They didnt win much that I care about.. Neither did my Eers though.. We won some fans and a few more games than expected but not whats important..
Coach K and Duke are the only people that won anything worth talking about last year…
