As i was driving down the highway listinging to dan patrick talk about durant i started to wonder how good can this kid be. Hes gotten better every year in every catagory including defense. hes already a great scorer and a very good rebounder. Every one says he has a great work ethic and is always working on his game. he's humble and doesnt like alot of praise but he still lets his game tell you that he wants to be the best player on the floor. He has a very nice jumper and every year he gets better at going to the whole. He has a nice post game that he doesnt really use to often which is normal for a young player.
All around he's not better then lebron. Hes not a better passer and doesnt have the body to get to the whole with power nor the athletic ability and the triple double on any given night capability. But he does have a nice young team who in a couple years could be a title contender with him leading the way
So do you all think that he is capable of one day becoming as good as kobe? Take into account that he's only 21 Personally im not sure just yet but its not something i just dismiss without thought
32ppg at age 23.
It's too early to tell.
He'll have to reel in some hardware and stay healthy, but on raw stats? He probably will have better scoring numbers, and his rebounds should make up whatever advantage Kobe has in the assist department more than likely. It really comes down to whether Durant gets titles (that's tough to predict) and get recognized for accolades (which will certainly come in time). I think he has an extremely legit chace though, especially with Lebron out of the way because he joined Miami.
No. That's why they beat the Thunder in the playoffs.
yeah i agree iggy the hardware will tell
@jlv2010 that made zero sense. just because the lakeshow beat them that means he can never be as good?..lol..you do know just about every young star gets beat the first time they play in the playoffs right?
@tounge out-like mike- thats a very very good point
it will basically come down to rings
Kobe is my favorite player hands down. Durant has a chance but has to improve in alot of categories he has to get his assists up keep his rebounds in 7 to 8 per game get that killer instinct become the best closer in the game and kobe can have a off night but in the 4th quarter he forget all about the first 3 quarters and dominate the 4th so durant needs to become a closer and i know it was his first playoffs this year but he shot poorly and ron artest had him on lock but ron is a great defender though i expected more from durant though. Now that lebron has chose to play pippen to wade playing jordnn durant has chance to win multiple MVP's and become the face of the NBA but like togue out liek 23 said its too eraly to tell but he has the potential to be an all time great. Scary think he's only 21 and he's younger than some rookies entering the league this year.
i thnk he is a different player then kobe. He could potentially be better, but i wouldnt predict it. but kobe is far superior ball handler and his ability to get into crevices between defenders and makes plays either for himself or others off the dribble is about as good as it gets in the game where as durant is only an average ball handler. Kobe could potentially play pg and be one of the best if he was 6-1, i cant say that about durant. We saw how much trouble he had getting clean looks against ron artest. Hes also not the passer or defender kobe is.
However, durant is longer and does a good job useing his height to shoot over guys. He also should be a better percentage shooter in all aspects of the game. He might develop the post game, but that will take some time. He can possibly be as good as kobe, but just in a different way.
Durant will never be as good as Kobe.
Not many were as good as Durant is at this age and he's definatley better than Kobe was after his 3rd year.
Soon to be 22 the sky is the limit he's already a great shooters can get to the line at will and a very good rebounder.
Keep working on the defense, passing and getting stronger and who knows how great he could be.
Time will tell he needs more playoff experience obviously but facing a tough defender like Artest for 6 games will only help him. Give him some time could be the best player in the West Conf. in 2 years.
Durant can be better than Lebron though.
Durant cant create for himself like kobe or bron but he is so smooth and fluid it's ridiculous...he is long too people forget the dude is 6'10 1/4'' and moves like hes 6'7''
How can you say he can't create for himself??...he averaged 30ppg!...i know he has a great pg in russell westbrook but durant did create his own shots a lot of the time, he always found was to score..i believe he's the best scorer in the nba right now not necessarily best player
he's not the same type of player kobe is they play 2 different games but i think he has the talent to be as great as kobe
naw he cant quite create for his self like kobe just yet but i think it might be possible for him sometime down the line
what make kobe and jordan better than lebron? championships. if durant keeps this up/improves, the accolades will come but its whether or not durant can win more than 3 championships. look at the players in the past we talk about being in the top 10 all time, you know, magic, bird, mj, kareem, and russell. they all won multiple championships along with their accollades. that is the key for any great player. will he be better than kobe? we may never know but he could be mentioned with him and the other guys i mentioned years after they are retired.
Of course he COULD be as great as Kobe, but the work that's cut out for him is something serious. Just check what Kobe has done, the streak of 40 point games, clutch playoff moments, an 81 point performance, I haven't even got to the titles, MVPs, and countless gamewinners. Durant can become dangerously close, but he may be close to Kobe at the day's end.
I don't like the TMac comparison. Look at the shooting percentages. TMac was a high volume low percentage shooter, whereas KD is EXTREMELY efficient. Eg, TMac has never shot a ft%, shooting%, or 3p% as high as KD did in his 2nd season.
i agree with the27guy, and add that t-mac was injury plagued, so you can't compare him to durant because hopefully durant won't suffer from injuries like tracy did
I think he could but in order to be as good or better then Kobe as far as numbers go read Iggy's post but also he'd really have to improve on the defensive end. Kobe been an top tier defensive player pretty much his whole career if Durant can become anywhere close to that (I think he can come pretty close) that will help determine if he'll be considered as good as Kobe when it's all said and done.
He can pass Kobe. He's like 6'10".
Durant can be a better scorer than Kobe but not all around player. Durant could wind up being one of the best scorer/shooters of all time if he can stay healthy and keep improving. He is young and can shoot a good percentage already. He is like a better, taller version of Reggie Miller but without the late game heroics yet but they should come.
What makes Kobe great is he hits some of the hardest shots I've ever seen. I've never seen anyone hit some of the shots Kobe does.
Durant Has Crazy Work Ethic ..
He's Only 21 ..
Plays w/ Skill , Nt Athletic Ability , So That Will Extend His Career ..
Is Already A Top 5 Player ..
All Signs Point To Him Being Better , Bt Kobe's Still Kobe , So i Can't Say Its A Given .
i didnt say he cant create i said he cant create like kobe
all signs dont point to him being better though. he has ato win some titles before he can be considered better tony. even if he continues to score alot, if it doesnt produce a title he will fall into the brakley, drexler, malone,d.wilkins catagory
I dun know IMO maybe not u can't become one of the greatest players ever by scoring alone he is gonna have to step it up BIG
Until he's a first team defender he won't be up there with Kobe. Offensively its entirely possible he can match what Kobe did/does, but the odds of him picking up his D to that ridiculous level is unlikely. Also, of course he doesn't have as good a handle as Kobe, there's a 4-inch height difference!
Titles Mean Alot ; Bt They Don't Tell The Whole Story .. As Well As Stats .
Durant will score more points than Kobe and more efficiently if he stays healthy but he will never be better than Kobe. He will probably not win 5 or more rings or get 1st team all defense. He is a great player and right now a top 3 scorer in the league. Durant is actually closer to 6'11" so there is like a 6 inch difference. Andre Iguadala joked that he was 7 foot and that may not be off more than a half inch or so.
Kevin Durant is atleast 6'10" I'm sure he can play defense when he feels like it. Kobe only plays defense when he feels like it. The true question is can he become the face of the league? Business wise is where his game needs to step up.
i like mamba hes 1 of my fav players but durant cant be ignored anymore. at his size with his skillz he is a matchup nightmare for anyone he faces. and as many of u pointed out hes still young. he may or may not put on more weight idk but the guy is destined to be great. kobe did amazing things in his career. i think durant will obviously be a different player than kobe but either way both guys are assasins. durant can impact the game so many ways whether it be him improving his defense and rebounding or scoring or improving his passing. he will be able to see more things than kobe and do more things becuz of his size.
