Cameron Payne is being Mocked in the top 10 of this draft class and Im not sure why ? He avg 20ppg 6ast and is 6’2 185 but I feel like there is a new trend of trying to find the next GREAT small school point guard , I blame Damian Lillard who is a stud but I feel like ppl believe they can find the next Curry or Lillard hidden on some small schools roster. Im just not buying it anyone else?

I think Elfrid Payton has bucked the “small school” concern as well by making the All Rookie First Team last season. Same with CJ McCollum breaking out the final 25 games as well.

I’m not as familiar with Cameron Payne’s game, but there’s precedence lately that these small school players can succeed in the NBA.

I agree with you, the trend of players coming from small schools and being successful. Also he’s peforming really well in workouts, so that’s another reason his stock has increased.

Payne is a pretty interesting prospect.  Shows off some nice passing skills and shot a great percentage.

Has a great feel for the game and handle.

My concern with him is that watching his tape, a lot of the passes that he made at Murray State probably turn into turnovers against good competition, and I don’t trust his shot.  He kinda pushes the ball instead of flicking it, and has a bit of a low release.

I really like Cameron Payne game. He’s a great shooter, great passer, and have a great feel for the game. I have him going number 11 in my mock draft to the Indiana Pacers. Given the success of the small school point guards that came into the league makes it hard to believe he will fail. He’s my dark horse to winning rookie of the year if he gets drafted by the right team.

Hornets badly need a PG, a true PG, but yeah he’s not the answer and he can’t play with kemba either.

He has nothing to do with the curry, lillard, payton of the past, they had elite college skills, numbers.

Curry was a 30 pts scorer, Lillard more skilled, stronger, faster, athletic.

Payton was a great passer, a defensive stud(ask McDermott), a great hustler, a taller rondo, he spent his life in the paint.

Payne is a pretty old sophomore, he shouldn’t be drafted earlier than the rockets, he’ll be eaten alive in the nba.

       he’s ugly !!!

I have Payne going to the Thunder and I think the late lottery is good for him. I see him being a roleplaying starter (ideally your 5th starter) to a top 6th man . He has the advantage that he will be able to play both guard spots with his spot up shooting ability he can play off the ball when another PG is in and the NBA is trending towards that.
