I’d like to call out Evan_Mailbag and Juves4783 for their B.S. comments. Troy Brown was a steal for the Wizards at #15. And Gary Trent, Jr is closer to J.R. Smith than Allen Crabbe. Very dissapointing comments

    Lol @ “Mailbag.” That’s a new one.

Look, I get why the Wizards did what they did. Brown offers positional versatility and he has a decent basketball IQ. And who knows? Maybe if they feel they won’t be able to afford keeping Oubre after his rookie deal, Brown can be his eventual replacement in the rotation. My issues with him is that the Wizards have very clear needs, rebounding and added scoring depth in the backcourt. The only way you can address those needs in the draft is by taking someone ready to contribute. Their spot at 15 wasn’t ideal, but Troy Brown was a reach. Saying he’s a steal implies you think he could go in the lottery, and you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who agrees. He had a super underwhelming season at Oregon. He can’t really shoot at all and he lacks the first step to be a playmaker at the pro level. Even Grunfeld himself said he wasn’t confident Brown will ever see significant playing time. It was just a waste of a pick to me considering Williams, Walker and Smith were on the board.

Troy Brown is a lottery talent. If he could shoot the 3 he would be a top 10 pick.

I’m an Oregon duck fan. You’re going to be pleasantly surprised. He athleticism could be better but his Bball IQ is off the charts. He’s one of the better players in this draft. Where’s all this talk about him not being a good shooter. His jumper is silky smooth. He’s one of the best passers in this draft as well. Zhaire Smith sucks. What has philly done?

I’m in the category of selecting the BVP regardless of position. And worry about fit later. There were reports that Troy Brown was at the top of the Spurs list. I think he’s in a great situation in DC. He’s playing behind 2 all stars guards who he will practice against everyday. It’s funny how the Spurs select players regardless of position and Folks rave about how smart a move it was. But when another team does it folks bring up needs.

That’s the thing, though. He wasn’t the best player available. In just about every mock I saw since the season ended, Troy was a late first rounder. Also, it’d be one thing if he was projected to be Beal’s backup, but all reports I’ve seen indicate he’s going to be the third string SF. Regardless of your stance on team need vs. BPA, you don’t reach on a player who isn’t going to play. Period.

I think the reason people praise the Spurs and not others who allegedly draft like them is because the Spurs have a track record of success. As a Wizards fan, I’ve really only seen us get four picks right over the course of the 21st century. They haven’t earned the blind trust other teams have.

You’re a dumb*** that doesn’t watch bball, just pays attention to analytics and likes to run your mouth.

Troy Brown was way more reach than a steal. Time will tell if it was a good pick, but most places had him way lower. I would have went Divincenzo , Okogie, or Walker.

I would have taken Walker and never looked back. Kid will be a beast (barring injury).

JR Smith was an absolute freak athlete with unlimited range. He and Trent are nothing alike.

Troy Brown reminds me of caris lavert somewhat. Lavert was older and more nba ready when he came into the league, but his feel for the game and versatility on offense and defense is similar. I don’t think he’s a guy that necessarily needs to rely on athleticism. I actually like the pick, particularly if he can develop his shot.

Gary Trent jr is nowhere near jr Smith as an athlete.
