bukowParticipantI live in São Paulo, close to Caboclo’s team, Pinheiros. The club is one of the best in the country developing talent (you see, we don’t have high school or college BBall in Brazil, only club’s leagues). But as anyone can see, Brazil don’t produce that many talent. Some bigs developed in Europe (Splitter & Varejão) and some good athletes (Nene & Barbosa) got in the NBA as young projects.
I’m not the same bball junky I used to be (ah… going to minor league’s games! Today, I almost exclusively only watch NBA games). Therefore I haven’t seen him live, but…
His statistics from this year’s Brazilian League (NBB):
4.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 0.2 apg in 13.2 min. lnb.com.br/jogadores/bruno-correa-fernandes-cabloco-2/
Now, how can I describe the level of NBB? Leandro Barbosa played 8 games for the same team just before signing back with the Suns. Statistics:
20.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 3.1 apg in 33.4 min.
I would say it is a roster-stable DLeague. Well, maybe the talent is a nocth below, but teams have time to form an identity.
The thing is: I do think Caboclo should go north. Not only to learn the game, but also to get used to the language and life style. On the other hand, it’s hard to see a NBA coach teaching basics. Maybe 2 years of DLeague…

SwatLakeCityParticipantor even when the Lakers selected Chuckwediebiere Madabaum (I hope I got the spelling right) in I think 2009. (I think it was the Lakers I forget). A topic on this site was asking would be this year’s Cho Cho pick, well there you have it its Bruno Cabaclo. (or however you spell his last name)
If I were Toronto I wouldn’t have selected him with the 20th pick. I would have done probably at 37 or even 59, certainly not 20. Then again, I heard both Pheonix and Utah him too! (Didn’t know this until just recently) Pheonix had 3 picks in the first round, and another pick at 50 in the second. Utah had to two first round picks and then another one in the early second, so maybe selecting him at 20 was the right idea in the end.

bukowParticipantDon’t know if it is possible: Toronto sends a personal coach for him to work down here. Kind like they did with the big guy from Lithuania.
Even so, he’s gonna be playing no more than 20 minutes a game next year, WITH Pinheiros…

OhCanada-ParticipantThey are bringing him in for Summerleague and Training Camp. He will not be in the D-League I think he will be on the end of the bench and getting garbage minutes. The D-Leagur isnt the place for him to learn the sport.
I woyld much rathet they stash him in the ACB for a year or two to let him learn the sport there.
Its not a bad pick. I made a post about him and Ingles saying if Biyambo goes top 10 for his physical features why cant these guys go late 1st a while back. He can shoot, and dribble, he is 6’9 with a 7’5-7’9 wingspan and likely growing, with a frame that can easilt add 30 pounds and suistain his athletisism.
He doesnt know how to play basketball well unlike Giannis last year who was already coached extremely well for his age. Some GMs and Coaches like the fact that players havent been coached yet. He may not have learned positive habits but he also hasnt learned negatve habits either. He is a blank canvas and moldable.
This is the route they chose it doesnt mean they wont work to make the team better this offseason. Free agency and trades will still be available to them. They like this kid and know him, judgement call at 20 and well see if they make progress in a few years and revisit the selection.
