DoubleNickelsDurr55ParticipantNot much has been said about Byron Mullens, I can remeber numerous jokes about him and how bad he was but now with charlotte he’s averaging 11.4 pts 4.3 rbs in 18.8 mins a game. For a guy who is still picking bench splinters out of his back side from his days in OKC, I would have to say hes doing great. I havent seen him play at all only been watching box scores, what do you all think?

sheltwon3ParticipantI agree, I knew that if he ever learned the game at worst he would be a bk up center, and it looks like now he has starter potential. I am not saying he can start but he should be a serviceable big man for many teams.
He is still fairly young.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantIts hard to believe it now,but Mullens was considered a Top Overall pick a few years ago..But he came out too early and his body wasnt ready for the rigors of the nba game, but after a few years of watching, learning, practicing and playing against big men in the league,he seems ready to contribute…
Mullens gets my vote as the NBA’s Most Improved Player ahead of Kyle Lowry..Becuz not many people expected Mullens to be in the league right now…Going to Charlotte might’ve been his last shot at showing that he can play in this league and he’s showing that not only he belongs, but he can be a signficant contributor….

I May Be WrongParticipantHe has a lot of confidence in his jumper. Unlike Diop, he actually knows what he can do on the offensive end for the Bobcats. I would like to see him get his rebounds up to about 6-7 by years end but I am suprised by his production thus far. He may become a center like Primoz Brezec if given the playing time

RafterParticipantYeah i’ve noticed Mullens’ play, he appears to have a reliable mid-range jumpshot now but, i doubt he’s being heavily guarded when he takes that shot, i’m sure teams will wise up to it, nonetheless, it’s nice that he can be used on offense now. For the time being, he’s ahead of Biyombo in the Bobcats’ depth chart and he could be pushing for a starting role, the Bobcats are going to be bad and it would be in the Bobcats best interest to see how Mullens produces as a starter.
I’m pleased he’s contributing on an NBA team albeit a poor Bobcats team but this could give him the confidence to carve a decent career as a starting center. Having said that, i can’t ignore the negatives, the season is only eight games in, Mullens could cool off, get injured or he could get a bit too cocky and not recieve any minutes or just expect things to happen.
Mullens’ PER 36 stats:
21.8ppg 8.2rpg 1.2bpg .527FG%
Pretty impressive PER 36, stats i wouldn’t associate with Mullens. These are "what if" stats of course but if he could produce anywhere near that in 36mpg, the Bobcats will be pleased with the prospect this 22 year old presents.
Side note, Mullens is 100% from the charity stripe and it’s not like he gets to the line every couple of games, he’s been drawing contact, getting hurt and still converting if he can maintain a good free throw percentage, he’ll show more promise and value as a bigman.

BigDParticipantOne question i have about Mullens, is he a better off as a C or as a PF? I haven’t watched his latest games but when i saw him against Miami he seemed to prefer the post fadeaways and mid range shots, could he be a good pair with a legit bang it down low type C.
