Moon RiverParticipantAccording to Yahoo, it is true. I suppose it could be a sign and trade, but Deng does not seem like the player the Bulls would do that to.

HitsterParticipantDeng would be aware if S and T deals were on the table and the new rules make it harder to do them now. I could see Chicago looking to tie Deng up long term, he will be 29 when this contract expires and if they offer him an early extension it would probably be cheaper than if he went to FA.
Also Deng would be looking for the right type of deal as his next contract could well be his last really big one in the NBA as it would take him up to about 33 years old. The Bulls would also want to try and fit Deng’s contract around those of D-Rose, Noah, Boozer and Gibson for 2014-15 as they already have $56 million committed to those 4 guys then so they may look to give Deng less that year but then boost the rest of his deal to make up for this as they will have more cap room when Boozer expires in 2015.

Moon RiverParticipant100% correct on this is Deng’s last good contract. He is relatively young but has a ton of miles on him, so to speak. His current deal is from the old CBA and he won’t be getting $14M per year now. The Bulls are walking a tight rope with the cap right now and every deal has cap implications. Everything I am hearing is that the Bulls amnesty Boozer next summer (2014). Paxson loves Deng and it would have to be a great deal to persuade him otherwise.

HitsterParticipantThey could give him a 5 year deal so maybe he gets a longer contract for less money. Deng has played 9 NBA seasons so has a fair few miles on the clock and this contract is looking say 4 to 5 years ahead. They can put a team option in for one year easily.
The Bulls have never payed luxury tax and under the new CBA, even the big money teams are having to tighten their belts.
The Bulls will also have the option to bring Mirotic over and have a possible lottery pick due from Chicago in the next few years so they have options. But I still feel the key to them really getting into genuine contention again is that D-Rose comes back fit and sound.

druneave3ParticipantBulls paid the tax this year for the first time, and will be repeat offenders again next year. Would be nice to give Lou around the same deal that Taj got, 4 years 8 mil, but he will get a little more than that.
