I didn't really take any of the combos, since I only have 2 top guys, but I'm pretty sure with those salaries I'd fall under the cap. I'm not sure if I'll be disqualified, but I want to stick with my same starting lineup as before.

Not trying to hate...just asking:
How are people in these polls taking Melo over LBJ? I really dont get this. I understand people taking Durant cuz hes so much cheaper, but really there is no plus to taking Melo over Lebron. Lebron is just as good a scorer as Melo, and better than him at every single other element of being a basketball player. And if your one of the "I Dont want lebron because he wont mesh with my other guys" type, thats fine, but Melo would be even worse. This guy is the definition of a black hole in the NBA.
If Carmelo was as athletic as LeBron he'd be better than him. Melo has pure skill set he is a scorer, Kobe has said Melo is the toughest guy to defend because he can score in so many ways. Melo is also more clutch than LeBron shoots way better. He is passing a lot more this year, rebounding more too. Once he gets traded to a team he wants I expect more strides. After the All Star Break, Melo will average and you can quote me 32pts, 10rebs, 5ast and 1stl and blk while shooting a great percentage. Anyway I chose Melo because Wall is my primary ball handler, LeBron would take away from Wall's strengths so I chose Melo a stationary scorer, who doesnt need to bring the ball up or play off the pick and roll and penetrate he can get a post up or spot up and still be effective
Melo wont ever average 10 rebounds but 32 isnt out of reach for him.
Carmelo can average 10 rebounds he's at 8 right now and he always gets better after the break. Melo can get 32 and 10 easily he is strong and if he goes to New York he'll see alot of time at the 4. If he goes to Chicago teams will double box out Noah, so he'll get some left over boards. 10 Rebounds for Melo isnt farfetched
I know people say it all the time, but I really don't think Melo is more clutch than Lebron at all, and he doesn't shoot better from three, nor is he more efficient.
Well, obviously Melo CAN get 10 rebounds a game. Its more of a matter as of which he chooses to be aggressive enough to do so.
Exactly....where are these clutch shots? LBJ did hit that 3 vs Orlando, he did take over the Detroit series in 07, i know game 5 v boston sucked, but at least he was in the CSF last year.
I mean, Carmelo is clutch too, I'm not disputing that. But Lebron is far from the choker people make him out to be. I know that stats aren't everything and their is a subjective component as well, but every stat measuring clutchness shows that Lebron is the best in the league in that category. While that isn't decisive proof that he is more clutch than Melo, I think it's definitely worth noting.
Ummm Melo is way more clutch than LeBron lol.
He's probably made triple the amount of game winners LeBron has made. Melo has made so many, I've lost count. LeBron on the other hand... I can count the amount of walk off game winners on my hand. One vs Golden State. One vs Orlando. And I guess the layup vs Washington. That's three.
IF there are a few seconds on the clock and you need a shot to go in, you're crazy if you're picking LeBron over Melo.
IM Your father-
Yea, we all know game 5 sucked, but i like how he "mailed in" game 6, 27 Points, 15 rebounds, a triple double.
But i guess compared to Kobe's "6-24 and get bailed out by Artest makes me a legend" scale, its nowhere to be found.
@Indiana basketball, this is the latest updated version that I could find and Lebron is leading:
http://www.82games.com/gamewinningshots.htm
However, Carmelo is shooting a much better percentage on game winners than anyone else, and that is important too. I don't think you are a fool if you'd rather have Carmelo take the last shot, I just disagree.
Actually, here is a more recent version
http://www.82games.com/0910/CSORT11.HTM
Edit: Crap, this doesn't show amount of gamewinners, but it does show other clutch statistics.
Melo over Bron any day Carmelo was 2 inbound passes away from going to the Finals and winning a title cause Denver would have destroyed Orlando. Kobe and Melo are the best 2 go to guys in the league if you disagree you dont know basketball, put Wade up there too
Splash Doc-
Picking anyone over LBJ as far as talent goes shows "you know nothing about basketball"
Swing 2 possessions and LBJ beats the Magic that year too. Those 2 possessions were the difference between Melo and Kobe. He isnt the latter.
82games.com counts all baskets during the last two or three minutes of a game. That's good or whatever, but I'm talking about WALK-OFF game winners. How many does LeBron have? Three.
I'd take Kobe's 6-24, 15 rebounds, 11-15 FTs, and solid play down the stretch over LeBron's triple double. Posting LeBron's triple double might fool people who didn't watch the game, but for those people who did watch the game... You're not fooling them.
That wasn't a winning triple double. LeBron wasn't even playing hard. His demeanor was weak. He was passing up open shots and then standing in the corner. LeBron wasn't even fighting hard that game hence everyone saying, "What was wrong with LeBron?"
Kobe didn't play well and took some bad shots, but at least he laid it ALL on the line.
Game Winning Shot Opportunity = 24 seconds or less left in the game, team with the ball is either tied or down by 1 to 2 points.
@Oakhill and Indiana. Is that not a fair definition? Lebron obviously has more than three game winning shots, because as of 07-08, he had 17, which was the most in the league at that time.
Neither Lebron or Melo has Averaged 10 rebounds a game right? Not that its really important to have you're Small forward average that many boards.
Carmelo is a better pure scorer then LeBron i think that's been established many times over. the guy can hit mid range/deep drive and post. theres no weaknesses. Lebron jumper is hit or miss same with three and he has no post game. His body and athletic ability makes him hard to stop when he drives though and he's a better all around player but anytime the question about pure scorer comes up it starts with Kobe and Melo
QUincey- i was never asking about pure scorer. I was talking about Pure Player.
Not the guy who averages 3 assists per game for his career
Not the guy who is horrible on defense.
He has a multi faceted offensive scoring game, but thats not all that matters.
Agreed for those who just look at the stats it could fool you but watching the game his head wasn't into it and he didnt come to play. With that said He gets wayyyyyyy to much blame for that series because even with him not playing up to par his teammates didn't show up at all ( mr mo and Antwan)
Indiana- This means he isnt as good as Melo? wtf? And so its easy for him to get triple doubles, he isnt as good as Kobe, if Kobe can "lay it all on the line" and stink it up with 6-24.
im talking about TALENT.
Also, if melo is the most complete scorer in the league, why does he only score 23 a game? its not like his team is loaded with scorers.
Ok fine, was the statistic I just showed you not significant? Even if that criteria doesn't meet your definition of a game-winner, it is still indicative of his ability in the clutch.
The dramatic decline of Antawn Jamison the past 3 years is astounding.
He straight up sucks now. and Mo is the king of talking the talk and not walking the walk. What happened to his "retirement"?

IM Your father-
No, beecause according to Indiana if thers any time on the clock at all, its not clutch.
That statistic is OK, but the pressure is greatest when you have one shot left to win the game. That's just my opinion.
You know... A la MJ. A la Reggie Miller. A la Kobe. A la Melo. LeBron makes clutch plays down the stretch, but I've seen him PASS up game winners. I've seen him choke at that line.
If he passes it, hes scared of the moment, if he shoots it hes a ballhog.
putting MJ and Melo on the same clutch scale, or anyone next to MJ for that matter is laughable.

Leaving Dirk out of the clutch argument was a mistake too. He can ball late in games with anyone. The SA playoff series he had one of the most underrated clutch plays ever.
For real? IF LeBron James takes that GAME WINNING shot, I don't think ANYBODY calls him a ball hog. He's SUPPOSED to take that shot. Superstar players take that shot.
LeBron has passed up that shot. He's choked at the line. He makes clutch plays down the stretch of games... Fine. That does make him clutch. However, he only has three walk off game winners. Melo has like triple that amount. Kobe has a TON of more walk off game winners than LeBron. I consider them more clutch because I'd want the ball in their hands if there were only a few seconds left on the clock. That's the main *definition* of clutch to me.
@Indianabasketball: Like with Quincey, I'm just going to give this up, because neither of us is going to convince the other.
I'm curious though, what is your opinion of Lebron? From all I can gather, think he has inflated stats, doesn't make those around him better and if you were a GM, he isn't a player you'd like to have on your team. Are those fair assumptions? I'm legitimately not trying to bait you or start an argument, I'd just be interested to know.
Last second shot who do i want taking it between melo and Lebron......hmmmi dont know because lebron can get to the hole at will so he will get a foul or bucket most likely. I'd flip a coin
How come you didn't answer the question though? Where would you rank LeBron in the NBA in regard to players who you'd want the ball in their hands if there were only a few seconds left on the clock?
Fine, I will answer one last question, if you answer mine above. I would probably rank Lebron second behind Kobe for someone who I would want with the ball in their hands with let's say under 10 seconds left.
I would rank Lebron 2nd behind Kobe as well. In all honesty i dont love either of them with the ball. Kobe hasnt been that guy in the playoffs, save 1 shot vs PHX back in 06. Hes hit a remarkable amount of meaningless vs Sacramento in January buzzer shots, but his playoff list isnt as impressive, especially in these past 3 years.
but his playoff list isnt as impressive, especially in these past 3 years.
Thats largely irrelevant to the lakers success, as last time I checked, last three years Lakers were in the finals, and they happened to win two of them just fine without Kobes buzzer beaters and game winners..am i right?
I just don't understand how LeBron can be ranked ahead of Melo, Dirk or even Wade to take a shot in the final seconds when he hasn't made as many walk off game winners as they have. Why else did Miami name Wade it's closer?
LeBron has passed up that shot. He doesn't want to take that shot. And he doesn't want to be on the line either. He chokes from there... Below 75% for his career.
JJeff- because this isnt a discussion about the Lakers 3 peat, its about hitting clutch shots.
LOL@ naming Wade there closer. As if that was official. have you watched the Heat this year? Wade looks B-A-D. He does not look anywhere near the top 5 players in the NBA. Why LBJ? Watch the 09 Orlando series. He will get to the rim and either finish or get fouled. Thats why. Its hypothetical, its not based on whose gotten the most opportunities.
