5 years 45 million. This might be one of the worst contracts I’ve seen this off season. Solid player, but why are the Bucks paying a role player close to $10M a year?

I didn’t expect him to sign for $9M/year.  The new cap structure has definitely changed free agency.  This is a very reasonable deal for a very good player.  I see Ersan as a Millsap-type player with more range and length, but a less refined skill set.  I think he’ll be an all-star a few times before his career is over.

The 5th year is a team option so its really a 4 year deal worth aboht $36 million… Almost same deal Ryan Andersen got from N.O. I didnt like the idea of bringing Ilyasova back at first but the more I thought about it he is a great fit with the Bucks… He can play either PF or SF, he shoots lights out from the perimeter and he rebounds… In just 28 mpg he averaged 13 points and 9 rebounds… Good signing by Milwaukee… They obviously need to get rid of a PF but Ersan isnt the one to dump…

Well for one thing he’s not a role player. He started 41/60 games he played and averaged almost 28 mpg. He’s much more of a starter than a role player. However I do agree the contract is a bit steep, 6-7/yr would make more sense. I’m pretty high on Ersan and I still think 9/yr is probably a bit much.

It is not a terrible move. Next summer is the key because Monta Ellis can opt out and Jennings will be a restricted free agent. The Ilyasova and Gooden deals won’t keep Milwaukee from being able to sign them. Their frontcourt mates being Dalembert, Udoh, Sanders, and Henson might.

This is somewhat comparable to the Ryan Anderson deal, except he has a team option for a 5th year.

Ryan Anderson is a lot better than Illyasova…. I doubt he puts up similar numbers next season. There is a reason the Bucks haven’t been relavent since I started following the NBA in like 2003. I’m not saying he’s a bad player, but when you spend $9M a year on a guy, he’s part of your core. Illyasova is not a player any sort of playoff team should build around. This reminds me of people who thought giving Anderson Varejao $10M a season was a good idea.

What makes Anderson better than Illysasova?

Anderson’s success is a direct result of Dwight Howard in my opinion.

Ilyasova is tougher and plays better D. Offensively they are very similar but Anderson has the slight edge because he is a better natural scorer. They are pretty even but I know I wouldn’t want to pay either of them 9 million a season.

Decent resigning maybe a bit over market value but the Bucks should be looking to try and mount a play off run this year

I think Ilyasova is definitely better than Anderson, as long as Ilysasova can continue to shoot as well as he did last year.  Ilyasova is the superior all-around player and easily the better defender.  Plus, he can do more on offense besides shoot, though he isn’t quite the shooter that Anderson is.  I actually like this deal for Milwaukee, as I believe Ilyasova is even better than the numbers make him appear.  He does a lot of the little things on both ends of the court and is a very smart player.

Saying that Ryan Anderson is merely a byproduct of Dwight Howard is kind of ridiculous.

It’s true that after Dwight’s injury, Ryan Anderson’s numbers were hurt. But that’s because Ryan Anderson became the focal point of the offense… Ryan Anderson is a perfect complimentary player, but he is obviously not a primary scorer, and never will be. Regardless, he’s an extremely efficient player (very high 3pt%, low turnovers, great offensive rebounding) who has a profound impact on the game.

Ilyasova is solid in offensive rebounding and 3pt shooting, but doesn’t take a ton of 3s like Anderson. He is much better in other areas: defensive rebounding, shot blocking, etc.

I think both are great signings. These guys are really underrated and are both young. They could absolutely be all stars in the next few years. Millsap is a good comparison in terms of being underrated, but their games are a bit different

Ilyasova is a better rebounder/defender. He’s also tougher and more of an inside player IMO. Anderson is a better shot creator since he can actually pull up a little bit. It’s a toss up. But it’s not a bad contract either way, since Ellis and Jennings are both guys who like to attack the paint and hit shooters. When your knockdown shooter can actually rebound and isn’t a bad defender, it’s worth the extra million or so on the year. Not to mention they had to pay a touch more to keep him for going back overseas.

Illyasova is young, a good rebounder, doesnt mind banging down low, can stretch the defense by shooting from the perimeter. he did get offered too much money but he is valuable enough to keep, especially for the Bucks who need any offense they can get. he doesnt make many dumb mistakes or decisions and seems to understand his role pretty well which is important for playoff teams which the Bucks are trying to be again
