Am I missing something here? Why have they been so terrible? Why is it that whenever I see a box score EARLY in the game Jason Kidd is playing his bench heavily? I knew they were old. I knew they would start out slow. But every time I switch over to watch some of one of their games they all just seem so out of it. Deron has been horrible so far this season. They got blown out by the Kings. I know it's early but at this rate they won't even make the playoffs. What gives?
I thought Derron Williams and Brook Lopez would step up and be the main two go guys, but they haven't. No way the Nets are going to win expecting 35yrs guys and over to hold down the team. Paul and Kevin are just too old now to be anything more then role players. Williams has fallen off for a few years now and it isnt stopped. Brook Lopez isnt stepping up like I thought he would either.
This years Lakers
For Ever, Lopez Per 36 is 24 points, 8 rebounds, 3.2 blocks. He is shooting 64% TS%. I don't know how much more you expect him to step up. But he is currently playing at All-Star Lock level. You must be a huge fan if you expect him to play better than this.
Deron has been hurt all season and is trying to figure out the team and when he needs to do what.
There are two problems that will get better as the season goes on. First the team is learning how to play with each other. Last year's team was thrown together so it wasn't fully gelled and this year they added SEVEN new guys who play minutes ranging from a lot to a at least significant. This team is constantly overpassing and overthinking out there. Second, Garnett's TS% is 32%. That is probably worst in the league and if he kept this up would certainly finish as worst of all time for a starter. Worst all time. Since last season he had a respectable 53% TS% I don't expect this to keep up. I assume he will return to something fairly normal even if he is a year older. But as of right now, he is chewing through possessions and laying bricks. This won't be a long term problem because to be frank the Nets have a ton of guys who can play PF. Eventually Garnett needs to either start making shots, stop shooting, or start sitting. 32% TS% is unplayable. It is also super unlikely to continue. Garnett will keep shooting and he will eventually find the same stroke that has made him a career 55% TS% player, which he has kept up even into his late 30s. And if he doesn't, there are six other guys on the team who can plausibly play PF. PF is not going to be a problem.
They are old. They have no identity. They have no pecking order when it comes to shots and crunch time shots.
That's why they stink.
Chemistry is a concern right now and offensively they aren't that good.
People expecting to be like the Celtics in 2008 are in for a big surprise.
Remember when ppl said DWill was the best PG in the game he's not even close now.
When the playoffs start Pierce will show his age and KG too.
Lopez will benefit playing w/KG but Joe Johnson, DWill will dissapear in the playoffs.
It's way too early to write them off,but there should be a cause for concern....The entire team looks uninspired, some guys dont play in back to back games, their interior & transition defense have been terrible and they're shooting only 44% as a team....They've lost to teams like the Kings,Magic,Wizards and Cavs that arent expected to make the playoffs....
Guys like Johnson,Lopez and D Will didn't have that Bulldog in them last season, thats why they went out and got KG..But so far he's been a disappointment,he's known as a guy that has always provided intensity and leadership,KG is averaging 6pts/7rbs/0.5blks in 22 minutes...
I think its up to Kidd to get this group in gear...Find out who is their 1st ,2nd 3rd options and who are the role players....
Biggest problem is to determine who the alphadog is on their team: DWill should be the leader, but considering he is injured all the time, there is a void to fill. Johnson has never been a vocal leader (although he is pretty good at taking the last shot, he is not the guy leading your team), Pierce and KG are in decline and Lopez is proving that he is the best player on their team (but leading a team with four other veteran All-Star players from the C position is something different).
Definitely lots of chemistry issues. But not bad type. All the players seem to be pulling in the right direction, they just need to figure it out or at least work through it. One main problem is from a personality position this is KG's team. He has been the leader of every team he has been on and he is ready to do it for this one. There is a reason why he is in the center of the Nets media pictures with the starters on either side of him. He is also a future hall of famer of even higher caliber than Pierce.
But he is playing like craaap.
His shooting has been the worst of his career. And his defense is somewhat overrated. Lopez has been far way the best player. But he is a doofy young guy. So he isn't ever going to be a leader on this team. This stuff needs to be worked out. But the easy way that it will get worked out is that Garnett will start hitting shots, he will stop holding back the team and he will be the leader. Albeit with Pierce and Johnson being the finishers in close games.
1. Deron Williamms is a shell of himself at age of 29. His decline come early or maybe he just never was that good as he looked in Jerry Sloans pick and roll till death system
2. They are too old and too used in NBA.I think Garnett should retired last season,JJ is chucking up shots but they arent fallin and that pretty much what he brings to table at this point in his career.
3. They dont have real NO. 1 option which should be Brook. He's their best player by far this year.
