I guess the time is now to see what GM Griffin can get for his aging benchwarmers. What value does his 10 million contract have fora team that seems like it will have a payroll exceeding 100 million. I’m not sure why they have the need to pay Varajao 9.7 million, Thompson 13-14 million and Love 20 million. Not to mention JR Smith and Schumpert want to get paid 8-10 million. I think this is the year to target rookie contracts and four year cost certainty with players salaries exploding. Before just paying these contracts I would tell Thompson, Smith to test the open market to see if any other team would actually pay those salaries.

Trading Haywood contract to acquire low cost draft picks by eating contracts. Possibilities- Boston- GeraldWallace 10 million contract plus the 28 th & 33 rd picks in the draft. Looking at a Christian Wood or  Cliff Alexander. Using their 24 th pick on Rashad Vaughn would give them potential at the end of their bench at salaries comparable to veteran minimum who weren’t t trusted to play in big games anyway. Perhaps Minnesota would look at giving up picks 31,36 for taking on Budinger 5 mil and Martin 7 million. It just seems like their could be other options than paying 8-14 million for replaceable roll players. Their pot committed to paying Love but a rotation of Irving, Schumpert, James, Love, Mozgov with some cheaper rotation players like a Gerald Green and some low cost rookies and vet minimum guys filling out last 6 roster spots.
