The rumours of Brandon Roys return to the NBA next season is starting to really garner some attention. Chad Ford tweeted yesterday the possibility of him joining Lakers next season. That being said, how effective is a returning Roy? I haven’t seen any footage of him playing since the Dallas series. His return has fairy tale written all over it, but that’s counting the he can return in stellar form. If he comes back in worried he will come back as a slower and less athletic version of himself. This would make him a liability,to teams who are hold a lingering hope he will be the Roy of old.

All this being said, I would love to see Roy return, even at 28 and hampered by his knees I still think he’s a good presence on a team in terms of leadership and passion .

He can still play. But please I beg him not to. There’s still more things for him to do then end up not having to walk.

was an ALL-STAR player. Evn though I’d love to see him come back, I’d rather he stay retired.

Walking for the rest of your life is more important than an NBA title…

Brandon Roy is one of the sadest stories in the history of the NBA, i hope miracle would occur and he gets the doctors approval so he could return and be able to play basketball in the NBA.

I think the love for the game is taking over and its hard for him to sit and watch the blazers not make the playoffs.

I agree with the general sentiment. Basketball just shouldn’t be a higher priority than your present and future health.

BRoy has to make his own grown man decision but if it were me (which it isn’t) I wouldn’t risk my health at an older age as I would want to enjoy my grandchildren and be able to play with them a bit as he is paid in full.

I respect whatever he eventually decide to do- free will.

As well, BRoy is currently working out with Tony Wroten Jr http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HooPPwJTU3Y

Roy can still play.  Don’t get it twisted.  Taking off a year and a half has probably done wonders for his entire body in general.  Most of Roys knee problems occured because he was always returning too early after injuries and never gave his body enough time to heal.  Roys been playing again since last summer.  I’m sure he’s been bringing himself along real slowly.  Likely doing whatever feels ok and not rushing to get back in time for anything. At the start of training camp this year he said his knee’s feel good while playing pickup in the off season.  With that said, there is obviously permenant damage. He might not reach the type of athletic performance he once had, but I’m sure he’ll still be plenty fast and shifty with the ball.  The type of skills and decision making he used to manage the game hasn’t gone anywhere.  If he wants to play some team will give him a shot.

Brandon Roy doesn’t have any meniscus in either knee. He may be *somewhat* pain free now since he’s taken off a year, but that pain would quickly return and he’d only do further damage to his knee if he returned to the NBA. He’s literally bone on bone.

He’s one of my favorite players though, so for selfish reasons… I’d like to see him at least try to return.

Hotshot you have it twisted, you don’t heal when it’s bone on bone, meniscus doesn’t just regroup after sitting out a season

Kobe said he was bone on bone too.  Did his surgery correct that?  Thats another story, Kobe aint retiring.

Roy can still play and can still contribute.  I liked him in the backup PG role he was last seen in at Portland.  I dont know why you retire due to such problems and come back though.   I was sad to see him go but proud to see a player know when its time to walk away.  I really dont see why he should come back….but I am not in his head.

Two different bone on bone situations.

Kobe is bone on bone in his knee cap. Basically the cartilage underneath his patella is worn down and there’s a little grindage between it and his femor. Kobe has had surgery a few times during his career to remove loose cartilage there. Painful, but nothing career ending and can definitely be managed.

NOW… Brandon Roy is bone on bone between his femor and his tibia, which means that he’s basically chewed through his meniscus and is now wearing down his articular cartilage. He’s facing bone deterioation. Career ending.

There is the possibility of a transplant. The likelyhood of that though is low because I doubt someone who risk their life to help Roy, unless that person had no need for it say some who has no feet and are young and healthy but have no use for knees. Roy could pay them some money and the transplant could help Roy regain the cusion needed to keep his bones from touching, that followed with constant treatment and Roy could be a legit Ginobili type 6th man play about 20-25 minutes off the bench and more come playoff time if anything
