OhCanada-ParticipantRevisiting the 2012 draft selections 3 and 4. Who is the better player.
Dion Waiters has more of a mentallity try to takeover games, whereas Beal can get more buckets in the flow of the game and blend in. Both are great young players similar size and positions.
Which player would you say is better.

SteezGawdParticipantJ. Harden?
A. Wiggins?
Paul George? (If he develops a "consistent" jumpshot)
And that’s just to name a few. Beal is good but…just no.

SteezGawdParticipantJ. Harden?
A. Wiggins? (If he scratches the surface on his potential)
Paul George? (If he gets "consistent" jumpshot)
Demar Derozan? (If he ever gets a jumpshot)
Lance Stephenson? (Kid can do it all. At times he’s too cocky but that is also what makes him so good)
Beal is good but no just…No.

kobyzParticipantFirst of all Wiggins, George are not SG, and yes I truly think Beal will be the best SG before not to long… He’s so special and compete talent, his game is rounded, he is exceptional smooth, can make plays in level very few can do, he has very high basketball iq, he is the most cluch player at his age no doubt… He just need a little more time and experience to learn how to be a little more constantly and to take over more, I tell you all he is the next big thing!!

R.JLewisParticipantpeople tend to side with irving just because he is the franchise player but waiters is underated. waiters was right to call out irving in the past for playig buddy ball and not making his team better. waiters has the better plus/minus average and win% out of the 2 players. im not saying irving isnt a beast all im saying is he needs to mature and focus on the making the cavs better. Here come the negative but stats dont lie
*i know irving has played more games which means he played with rosters that were worse than the rosters waiters has played with.
* its about time cleveland back people who will do anything they can in order to succeed in cleveland like dellavedova

Rip255Good point re: Dellavedova. He has the highest +/- per 36 mins of anyone on the Cavs aside from Luol Deng (who only played half a season).
I know stats can be thrown out to make any point, but it seems the Cavs play better with him on the court even if he doesn’t produce eye-popping stats.
Not bad for a rookie.

morestealsthanscoresParticipantI would take Beal any day of the week. Much prefer a guy that won’t try to be ‘the man’ and will step in as a 2nd/3rd/4th option as needed.

joecheck88ParticipantAgreed. Especially since neither are 1st options on a good team.

I’d rather have the young guy with the 1st option mentality and have him learn to play second fiddle. It is much harder to teach the instincts to take over when needed, like foul trouble or injury.
Dion has proven he can lead a team to be as good and actually a little better when Kyrie is out. Beal has not shown me that he could keep the ship on track if Wall is unavailable.

strobox88ParticipantGive me Beal, all day. Put Beal next to any PG and he can be productive. Put Waiters next to any PG and he will either struggle or thrive depending on what type of PG he’s playing with.
Both players have great upside, but one is more team oriented than the other, which is primarily what I based my choice on

jwall1ParticipantBeal… I feel Waiters tries to hard to be the #1 option when he simply is not good enough to be. Beal knows his role, and is a better scorere with a better attitude so I would take Beal no question.

B-ball fanParticipantWaiters is more talented, giving him more upside, but Beal definitely fits a team concept more right now. I would take Beal, but I don’t think the difference is a big as people think, as Waiters will likely put up better numbers than Beal for most of his career. Beal has (slightly) better shot-selection, but Waiters is probably the more natural shot-maker and is a much better ball-handler and passer than Beal.

Jester87ParticipantThat’s not saying much either, because most of the teams would’ve done the same. Lot of execs were in love with MKG.

There is a excellent side by side comparison of the two both for this year and next in the link.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantfifth best player from that draft. So they were close to being drafted perfectly.
Beal is just to consistent and eventually will prove to be more efficient than Waiters. Waiters is a talent with a unique skill set, that if properly molded will have higher highs than Beal but on average he just isn’t as good. For example there is going to be a year over the next 4 that Waiters averages 24 points a game. Beal will never get that high but he will probably average between 17 and 21 points per game for the next 8 years years.
Beal is a more solid defender but Waiters actually has more defensive potential. He won’t ever realize it but he is more instinctual than Beal. Waiters could be a real irritating defender but he is irritated by having to play hard defense for a whole game. He averages 19.3 and is shooting .456 since the All Star break.
Everybody agrees its Beal but it really isn’t that much difference, the PER is 14.0 for Waiters and 13.9 for Beal. I prefer passion so I like Waiters more as a personality but Beal is the better bet.

CavFanPRParticipantI’ll take Waiters and I’m not being biased. The two have completely different games. Waiters thrives with the balls in his hands hence the reason he has a hard time playing alongside Irving. It’s not Waiters fault, it’s Irving’s and his inability to play team ball, in my opinion. Beal is an undersized swingman that can hit the three at an elite level but has average athleticism, average handles for a guard and, decent but not great IQ. In my opinion, Waiters is better at everything except three point shooting (and he’s at a very acceptable 36% so he’s a pretty good shooter too). Add to that the fact that Waiters can run the point and the answer is an easy one: Waiters wins.
Don’t care if you want to call me biased.

OhCanada-ParticipantEven if Waiters is better that is a pretty biased post. Decent but not great? Is Waiters ball iq better? Beals ball iq is fine and much better than the average player thats what makes him such a dangerous scorer off the ball.
Its fine to say Waiters is better but theres no need to bash Beal.
