Lotto StudParticipantI have been in disagreement from Day 1 to the Eric Gordon comparison from the forum. I really do not know what is the similarities amongst the 2, besides the fact both wore #23 in High School.
I Grant you Bradley Beal the Rashad McCants comparison.

HadzialijagicParticipantBeal is more athletic is better defender and has a better work ethic.

Lotto StudParticipantHE IS McCants in disguise! Is that good enough? McCants does role play now, I’m not sure you are aware of this feat I dropped on you.

I May Be WrongParticipantA little bit but but I can see McCants as more of a worst case scenario. McCants seemed to lack the passion to improve or get better. He could shoot and score but not much else. I think thats what seperates Beal and McCants. Beal isn’t a slouch on the defensive end. I think Beal is one of those players who will find ways to be effective at the next level just by doing the little things. Eric Gordon is his best case if he is on the right team who will see him as a go-to scorer on that team. I have to think about a legitimate comparison for him but I’ll get back to you lol

WeavvvParticipantThis is going to sound a little bit out of left field, but I see him as a James Harden/Chauncey Billups hybrid. He’s got the IQ, and shooting ability of Chauncey. Just watch how he can set himself up, whether its off the dribble, off a screen, or just on a catch and shoot. Reminds me a lot of Billups. While he’s a little bigger, he also has the off the ball play like Harden has. He obviously doesn’t have the ball handling and passing ability that Billups has, he definitely has great court vision, and could develop that passing ability, as well has ball handling with more time with the rock.
As for further comparisons to The Bearded One, the aspects that he lacks in contrast to Billups, are further more developed to Harden’s game. He can be an impact defensive player, although isn’t known for it. He isn’t a freak athletically, but the tools are there. He’s a bit smaller than Harden (frequently listed at 6’5", 200+ lbs), with a decent wing span and reach, which should be known.. both are vastly more important than height.
He’s able to handle the ball in stretches (ala Harden), yet has played off the ball (mostly the 2/3, but also at the 4 in Florida’s guard heavy offense). While not super athletic, he’s able to use his body to get to the rim (has a decent FT rate this season), as well as create shots for himself from the perimeter.0 - Posted on: Fri, 03/23/2012 - 12:16pm #650403
WeavvvParticipantThe McCant’s comparison’s aren’t far off. While I believe he’ll be a more efficient pro than McCants, the "slasher/elite shooter/undersized 2" comparisons are right one. What ultimately separates Beal from McCants is Beal’s ability to handle the ball a lot better than McCants ever could/would, as well as the ‘motor’. Beal’s basketball IQ is noted as being very high, which again.. puts him in another class above McCants.
As far as Worst Case Scenario.. I think McCants is a decent basement for Beal.
Best Case Scenario? Ray Allen ala 2004-2006.0 - Posted on: Fri, 03/23/2012 - 1:18pm #650408
TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantare that people are acting like Rashard McCants doesnt have NBA talent. He was black balled because he was a a$$hole and thought he was Jordan or at least Eric Gordon. Their basketball personalities don’t match and McCants had a few years of college. Mccants was a chucker in college and always had claims against him that he couldnt shoot. He worked on his shot and became a shooter, Beal can already shoot. Beal is a better ball handler also. If Mccants had the right personality he would be in Alozo Gee’s shoes in Cleveland. Had he wanted to be a scrappy guy who plays defense, is tough and a improving shooter who was a team guy then he would be better than Jared Dudley, who I like by the way. Rashad was a loner that only really believed in himself. He was also caught up in the life, was dating Kim Kardashian at one point, and wouldnt play by the rules of management. The Eric Gordon comparison is reaching a little because Beal is not the volume scorer Gordon is, but Beal is good in his own right and I like were his motor could be on the pro level. Florida is ridiculously guard heavy. Guards that can play, Boyton, Walker and Rosario are good college players. If he went somewhere else he could have been working out the kinks in his game earlier in the season. His future also depends on if he’s 6’5 or 6’4. As stupid as that sounds about 5 spots in the lottery depend on that for him.

HaleParticipantMcCants was a pretty good scorer, but he couldn’t do anything else. He should still be in the league as instant offense for someone. Beal is a far superior prospect though.

WälseParticipantdid my research as i didn’t know about McCants’ off the court issues…he dated Khloe, not Kim

Dale WorthingtonParticipantAir Gordon meets Ray Allen.
Beal isn’t as athletic as Gordon but he’s more athletic than Ray.
His height is about in between or on par with Ray.
His shooting ability is in between those two fellows as well.

ChrisCrossParticipantIf you look closely in the picture the white guy is grabbing McCant’s left leg

Mr. 19134ParticipantThe McCants comparison in terms of college plat is very on point. McCants also tested out extremely well as an athlete at the combine showing a 38" vert, NBA speed, and tight handles. But he Beal is on another plain in terms of basketball intelligence and maturity. Had McCants been smarter, a harder worker, and never got injured, he’d be playing a very significant role somewhere in the league.
Eric Gordon is still a legite comparison in terms of potential. People remember Gordon putting up great numbers as a freshman at Indiana but they forget how miserable the program was that year and how many players quite in the team his freshman year wasn’t a success in terms of team play. Brad Beal’s is as he’s been the most dynamic player for his team during an Elite 8 run as a freshman and has played very well during the tournament. Beal is a big time player and has proven it on every level he’s played.
The only difference is that Gordon shot lights out as a freshman while Beal played out of position and struggled finding his touch most of the year. But Beal got the touch now and it’ll be fun to see how far he can carry Florida.
