I’m hearing the bobcats are very interested in Ben McLemore. B Mac is pretty solid but taking him in the top 5 would mean giving up on Gerald Henderson, which I think would be a mistake. Henderson has 4 years of experience and is still very young at 25 years of age. I think he can be retained at a reasonable price, and the bobcats should do so.

What they should do with their top 5 pick is draft Alex Len. You put him next to Biyombo and you have a balanced frontcourt. Biyombo is a offensive liability but his elite defense keeps him in the rotation. Alex Len has a great post game and can hit mid range and even long range jumpers. He’s a great offensive big man and would fit in nicely. The bobcats don’t have too many big men on their roster, and relying on Brendan Haywood isn’t a good idea imo.

    Thoughts?

I’m actually in favor of this as well. McLemore could give them a boost, but Henderson has been a great option for scoring the past few years. Kemba and Henderson in the backcourt is not a terrible option because of their scoring ability. With a frontcourt rotation of Biyombo, Len, Mullens, and Haywood, this would not be a bad lineup.

Another option that I see possible is to take Anthony Bennett, which I have seen in a lot of mocks lately. He gives you a scoring threat up front, while keeping Henderson and Kemba as your starting backcourt. Biyombo, Mullens, and Haywood (they should find a solid free agent role player to replace him) can rotate in and out of the Center position, along with the possibility of Mullens playing PF behind Bennett. I think this would be the best route for the Bobcats to take in the draft, as McLemore probably won’t even be available come the fourth pick.

Whatever pick involves them getting as many ping pong as possible next year all while grabbing a good prospect.

    I agree with your outlook.

A lot of these rumors are just mocks right? Anything out of the Bobcats camp that Ben is top two on their board?

But I did post a while back, in response to another post about what Charlotte should do, and I wrote basically the same. Take Len, who I likened to Marc Gasol. This way Biyambo is still in the picture bc he andLen seems to be able to mesh. Next year, they can target a backcourt mate for Walker in Smart or either Harrison twin.

Keep in mind, looks like Patrick Ewing will be brought on as lead assistant. What a perfect teacher for Len.
I’ll bet $ Len will be there pick if both he and McLemore is available when they pick.

This is what I’m hoping for!

My fear is that we take Bennett and then we have a tweener that has limited post moves (great of the bounce & jumper) next to biz or oladipo who seems to be a great glue guy but watching him doesn’t scream allstar which we could use.

Len may not be an all star but I’m thinking more ric smitzs (old school pacers) pick n pop guy for Kamba.

Any one think trading with the mavericks for future picks ( late round 2015 and beyond) since they have number 13? they are wanting to save cash for Howard…. would taking Bazz at 13 be a good idea? He has the drive to be a stud and we could get him cheap and let Henderson go…….. Is Henderson that much better then buzz?

I definitely think a center is the way to go for Charlotte and Len would be an excellent fit. I like his offensive game which would blend well with defensive minded Biyombo.

The Bobcats need a scoring PF or C… badly. I wouldn’t even worry about Ben McLemore, he will be gone before the 4th pick.

Alex Len is an option, but I don’t see him as an offensive machine. He’s already got the size and weight to rebound and block shots. The pro offense might take some time.

The Bobcats are trying to spread the floor and score, so I’d suggest Anthony Bennett or even Cody Zeller. Bennett has a perimeter game and Zeller has been killing threes in workouts. If the new coach wants to run like the old coach did (who knows?) Cody Zeller becomes an even better choice.

I like Bennett a whole lot better than Zeller and Alex Len is likely going to out rebound, block, and defend both guys on day 1. However, Len’s offense will take longer. Bennett and Zeller can score tomorrow. If Zeller gains some pounds and learns to go through people instead of around them, his offense could really take off.

I’m rooting for the Bobcats. I like the worst teams make a comeback. The Bobcats need to improve now so the morale doesn’t get too low. Otherwise players on the team feel like they’re doomed before they even start.

Just watched a few highlight tapes of Alex Len and I’m in complete agreement that he’s the best fit for this Bobcats team. They desperately need some size inside, and Len has the makings of a legitimate low-post scorer with his frame and skill-set. He’s not a project in the same way Biyombo or Adams would be and he doesn’t have the same limitations that Zeller has physically.

Also, Ewing would be the perfect guy to mentor Len as someone who could shoot the J and bang inside during his career.

I’m officially on board the Len to Charlotte train. Let’s see what Rich Cho thinks.
