BogDon_KryptParticipantHouston Gets: Rondo
Hawks get: Parsons, Lin, Asik
Celtics Get: Horford, Houston 1st Rounder
Houston now has three headed monster with Rondo, Harden, and Howard
Hawks get great young player in Parsons. Lin and Teague can be guards. Get Asik to be replacement for Horford
Celtics get underrated big man in Horford, plus another pick to continue building their team.

ItsRainingNegsParticipantA hall of fame point guard for Asik, Lin, Parsons, and a first is called a steal. I don’t know how you value players but you’re off.

torontoraptors10ParticipantI totally agree with you. If I was the Rockets I would do this trade because they do get a HOF PG in Rondo and Asik, Lin and Parsons are all replaceable.

ItsRainingNegsParticipantHorford is worth a lot more than Parsons plus Lin and Asik don’t have team friendly contracts. Doesn’t make sense for the Hawks.

BogDon_KryptParticipantI disagree, Asik was putting up solid numbers as a starter on Houston. Lin is starting to play really well and would make a formidable back court with Teague. Add Parsons who gets paid less than a mill a year as the Hawks starting SF. I think all teams get good value in this trade.

ItsRainingNegsParticipantI like Asik a lot. But you’re going to have to pay Parsons soon and he’s not going to be cheap even on a team friendly contract. Lin adds another big contract (along with Teague’s) while also crowding a back court that includes Dennis Schröder. I’d rather have Horford as a lifer than Parsons and Asik for a combined 18 mil cap hit I after they sign new deals.

BogDon_KryptParticipantI dont know why you say that. Rondo, Harden, Howard would rival Miamis big 3. Sure they give up a lot, but they free up some cap space.

Jester87ParticipantNope, that big 3 isn’t that good. First of all, Rondo is coming from an injury and we don’t know how good he’s going to be. Second, basketball is a team sport and they don’t mesh that well. Both Rondo and Harden are ball dominant players, and Howard is mostly a post up guy. I don’t care if their combined overall rating in NBA 2K14 is 270, if you have Harden in your backcourt you might be better with an average point guard who can hit spot up shots, doesn’t ask the ball much and defends very hard, than a top 6-7 PG in the league, a visionary with great creativity who’s pretty much useless off the ball, without a reliable jumper and whose effort on D is sometimes questionable. They also give up a good shooter (and secondary ball handler) in Parsons. Good luck distributing possessions and creating good spacings for that offense! They moved Lin off the starting lineup for that very reason, in order not to have him and Harden playing too much together (and Lin has also improved a lot his off the ball game, so he’s not that bad fit right now) thus having a better offensive organization, with the more disciplined Beverly (who, by the way, happens also to be one of the best defenders at PG and is at least an above average spot up shooter) as a starter. They are giving up their starting small forward (their actual second/third best player, not to mention the one who plays more minutes per game except for Harden), their sixth man (who gives their second unit an advantage over opponent’s), their back up center. So they would have 3 great individual players, without any real chemistry and without time to work on it because we’re in the middle of the regular season, and they would have pretty much nothing else around them. Their supporting cast would become awful.
The third reason is if they want to move those pieces they can get much better. Asik has a very good value, he doesn’t play for them, but he’s a very good rim protector and that is a game changing skill (or at least is perceived like that among execs these days). Lin doesn’t have probably that much value, because of the money he earns next year, but still, he’s one of the (if not THE) best sixth men in the league, he’s still pretty young and his contract, while big, expires next year. Parsons has the best deal in the league, he’s a borderline all star right now and he’s still pretty young; they’re never going to trade him, and even if they would, they have to trade him with some big contract to get someone as valuable as him in return. Honestly there are many teams that would be interested in a Lin/Parsons package. Both good teams interested in adding some depth, bad teams willing to get some nice young pieces, average team looking for a playoff spot. And they would give away also a first rounder, whose value is much higher under current CBA (and the Rockets are known for putting a lot of work on their draft pick’s development).Honestly I think it would be really bad for the Rockets.

BloodFoLyfeIt doesn’t work for Atlanta they have horford and 1st round who might be a lottery pick and cap flexibility.

Da1potParticipantNot a good trade for Houston because they would be renting Rondo for a season and a half before he goes to sign a max contract (20 million plus a year) elsewhere that Houston likely cannot afford. They would not do the trade with out some sort of guarantee he would come back. Teams do not want Lin and Asik right now because they both have end-loaded contracts in which they make 14.8 million next season a piece. Lin and Asik could both be traded next year right at the deadline due to their expiring contracts, but team will still be wary of their salaries.
There is absolutely no reason to trade Chandler Parsons at all. He averages 17 ppg, shoots .523 from the field, .402 from the three point line and he makes less than a million a year. He is the best value player in the entire league.

dacula18ParticipantThis trade doesn’t make sense for any of the teams.
– No way Hawks are looking to move Horford. They let Josh Smith go so they could build around him. I could see them moving Millsap or Teague though.
– Why would the Rockets trade Parsons? An Asik for Millsap trade would make more sense. Didn’t Patrick Beverly just get injured? That means they probably aren’t looking to move Lin.
– I know there are rumors the Celtics move Rondo, but he is a great fit for their current team. They can bring him back slowly if they are still trying to get into the lottery, but the East is so bad they probably couldn’t miss the playoffs if they tried.

HandDownManDown13ParticipantAlso, why would houston even want Rondo? He’s a horrible fit with Harden. They need a point who can shoot and play off the ball, something Rondo can’t do at all.
No way they give up parsons, and no way ATL gives up Horford. Just a bad trade idea all around.
