Ive been seeing alot of people suggesting the Clippers should or will trade Blake Griffin. There is no way he gets traded before the 2018-2019 season.

Blakes value is at an alltime low right now. The injury concerns are real. Hes missed 83 games in the previous 3 seasons and played 19 games this year before suffering a knee injury which is supposed to sideline him for 2 months but the Clippers may just decide to shelf him for the season to get a higher draft pick. The crippling part of this for the Clippers franchise is they just resigned him this summer 5 years $173 million. In order for a trade to be realistic at that price a team would have to be sure he would remain healthy as it would take a big chunk of a teams salary cap which means trading many assets for Blake.

Doc Rivers contract would also present issues. He is currently the team president and in charge of basketball decisions. Doc wont tank hes oldschool. The team cant just fire him because he is being paid rumoured more than $10 million a year. If they were to let him go they would probably wait until the 2018-2019season which is the last year of his contract, Deandre Jordan is a free agent this year and will likely be a more suitable candidate for the Clippers to trade but with Doc Rivers will probably try to trade him for a veteran player rather than draft picks and or prospects.

Only thing LA can do right now is give Blake whatever he needs to get healthy, trade DJ to the highest bidder regardless of conference/division, give Lou Williams 20 shots a game and hope for a top 5 pick in next years deep draft.

A small market team that can’t acquire big names via FA might trade for him.Hawks, Thunder, Pacers etc.

But I agree, put him on the shelf the rest of the year and try and get a good pick.

Steve, the owner, was so jacked up to acquire this team. I would love to know what his plans are for the next 2-3 years. Bad situation all around.

I agree that Blake’s trade value isn’t great at the moment even if he is locked down to a long term deal. This is due to his injury issues which have dogged him over the last 3 years and also people have wondered how his game will translate as he moves into his 30’s and loses some of his speed.

To be fair Blake has added a decent 3 point range to his arsenal in the last two years but to trade for his huge contract would be a gamble and the number of teams able to easily absorb it would be hard.

The one idea I did have was might Houston possibly go all in and get Blake to pair him up with CP3 again plus the matter of a certain James Harden. Blake and CP3 gave the Clippers a lot of success and Blake under a Mike D’Antoni system would put up great numbers.

How the deal would work would be hard – Ryan Anderson, Clint Capela and future first rounder/s, is only real one I see. Clippers might also then take what they could get for DeAndre and start over. The issue would be that with Anderson and Gallo you have a big chunk of cap space taken up and Capela is due a new deal next summer as a RFA and is likely to be larger than say deal Noel turned down at Dallas ($70 million over 40 years).

Doc Rivers is only the coach he lost his B.OP’s role to Lawerence frank and they have also brought in Jerry west as an adviser. I think Doc only has one more year on his deal(next season) so you only have to pay one year of 10 mill out if they do fire him.

As for what to do with the Clippers/Blake is this:

Find a direction and commit to it.

If you believe  having Milo’s back and getting a couple more pieces next year has you back in the mix you hold onto Blake. Assuming that they at least sneek into the playoffs this year that is…

If not then Cash in while and trade everyone away for Picks or Really young cheap talent that has some serious promise-E.G Kyle Kuzma for example..

Me Personally the only teams that makes sense to take a swing with Blake are maybe the following:

Phoenix they could offer some youth who are on cheap deals,Some picks and maybe the odd expiring deal to get it done. This gives them a interesting core of Blake,Booker,Jackson and Maybe T.J Warren as a 6th man..Plus most likely a high pick again this year…

Miami: Keep Dion W,Dragic,Bam,Hassan  and trade whatever else + a protected pick or two  to get Blake to be the big they have missed since Bosh lol.

The Bucks -Who knows Giannis could force them to go after with players like Thon,Jabari or Picks ..

    The wild cards:

Philly: A polished big who can play inside and out in Embiid would allow Blake to switch inside and out and would be crazy to watch…What they could get from them outside of Futlz,Embiid and Simmons is the hard part…

Minnesota..They take a flier on Blake for either expiring deals and at least two top 5 protected picks to pair with Towns which could be an interesting fit for them..

OKC:I don’t know what we would legitimately trade for Him Adams and Westbrook are untouchable and PG is Hard one to pick up if he is going to seriously bolt from OKC…Which only leaves Mello and I don’t know if the Clippers would do it for an old Mello who could opt out on them…

The Bucks would be an interesting one and putting Blake out East would immediately make him one of the very top big men out there. The issue I’d have is how well would Blake work with Giannis as the main ball handler. After playing with CP3, I feel Blake is better with a legit PG.

As a Phoenix fan, as much as I’d like Blake on the roster, I’m not sure whether we give up a ton of assets to try for Blake and Clippers would likely first ask for Booker. We’d have the type of assets that Clippers were after though.

The Knicks could be a contender too, they will want to try and do something around Porz and pairing him with Blake would give them an elite frontcourt.

Griffin is on the decline. His FG% has dropped 6 straight years! He’s injury prone and has had off the court issues. Add that to the fact that he’s locked into a big contract I could see him being Carmelo in a couple years.

Given the above factors I don’t see who would want to trade fro him. His contract is to big with to many years left for him to be a playoff rental and the Clips would want to much for him.

I just can’t see Griffin moving because no team in there right mind would be willing to give up anything the Clips would be willing to accept. He’s stuck in LA to Billy King gets another job.
