@WojYahooNBAUSA Basketball has summoned Anthony Davis to report to Las Vegas for training camp immediately, sources tell Y! Sports.
Goddam we really can’t keep our big men healthy can we?

scott3210ParticipantWe might have to get Michael Doleac or Juwan Howard to play.

Tyreke JohnsonParticipantas if the frontcourt wasnt weak already we lose one of our few true bigs, great. if davis gets actual consistent minutes he could really learn a lot and help the hornets off the bat by soaking up information from all the current best players and going against such good competition in the Olympics

mikeyvthedonParticipantWell, this front court is lacking a great deal of depth. Have to say, this would even further sway the Dream Team/2012 Olympic Team debate. Dream Team did not lack for depth in the least. If their is one thing to worry about with the 2012 team, it is how they fair against bigger bodies (ie. Spain). Have to say, Blake Griffin is a guy I would rather have banging in the post as opposed to Anthony Davis at this juncture. Still have confidence in Team USA 2012 version, just am not buying the better than the Dream Team argument in the least.

ChewyParticipantjust hire the Phoenix Suns training staff for the summer?
Although, in that practice session on NBA TV Griffin and Cousins were going at it. Attacking the rim and hard fouls from both players.

IndianaBasketballParticipantWOW… It was honestly suspect for Griffin to join in the first place considering his knee injury history and the fact he just hurt his knee during the playoffs.
Hope this isn’t major. Smh.
0- Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 8:42am #694972
WizardofOzParticipantSource says Griffin woke up with swelling after suffering the injury yesterday. Team USA’s problem with Bigs grows bigger.
I doubt it’s severe.

220ParticipantMy thoughts exactly, Blake played through the playoffs with a sprained knee right…why on earth didn’t he say I need to rest the knee and prepare so I’m 100% when the next season starts. I’m really hoping it’s nothing more than him tweaking the knee he sprained in the playoffs.

PrettyBoyPeeWeeParticipantWow i hope it’s not serious, didn’t he just sign that big a$$ contract, hope it’s insured.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 8:46am #694974
I May Be WrongParticipantBad for Blake, hopefully it’s not too serious as mentioned above. But talk about a hell of an opportunity for Anthony Davis now. He’s going to be surrounded by the best players and immediately gets an amazing chance to learn from the best. Even if he’s limited in his minutes, this experience will carry over to his rookie season.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 8:48am #694975
KayjayParticipantBut I’m rather insulted a rookie got the call over Cousins.
But besides being the homer that I am, its a shame Griffin got hurt. I hope its nothing serious.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 8:51am #694977
Raef LaFrentzParticipantLooks like this means more minutes for K-Love. I hope Blake isn’t hurt badly though.. That would be a huge shame.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantDavis is a better fit for team USA anyway
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 9:04am #694982
IndianaBasketballParticipantI don’t understand why they don’t move Cousins up as well.
Davis is a rookie and his ankle isn’t even 100%.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 9:09am #694989
SubZeroParticipantI agree with Kayjay. While I’m a big Anthony Davis fan and really hope this helps him out, I would’ve loved to see Cousins play. The only problem with him is he might not get along too well with the other players, but based on talent/team need he would’ve fit the bill. Still looking forward to seeing what kind of effect this has on Davis
I would’ve loved to watch Blake Griffin jam on some Europeans though..the crowds over there would’ve went NUTS, they already go crazy in some places anytime anyone does a basic dunk lol

Memphis MadnessParticipantOLYMPIBROW!!!!!
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 9:21am #694996
Memphis MadnessParticipantWow, this makes things a lot more interesting. The Gasol brothers didn’t mail in the 2012 playoffs for nothing. Now they are well rested and geared up for the Olympics. Marc, Pau, and Serge Ibaka will be formidable against whoever we bring out there.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 9:43am #695006
Memphis MadnessParticipantI don’t care if DeMarcus Cousins is nuts. He belongs on the team now!
0- Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 11:06am #695050
SpacegrassParticipantLike the USA team needs a immature big guy who is a black hole and won’t pass out of a double team when your 3 best players are perimeter guys. Yea Cousins sounds like a great idea , ha!

yaboymalParticipantDamn Im a little dissapointed we were definitley gonna see a couple euro bigs get dunked on…
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 10:29am #695032
TheDagger40ParticipantI don’t get why the USA team is not giving any love the Greg Monroe. That was guy was a borderline all star….
Anthony Davis is a great player and all, but he’s being overhyped a bit by being invited to the camps as a rookie.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 10:52am #695039
GoJOSH HUESTISParticipantI don’t think most of you all are looking at this the right way. Players are put on the team because of need, USA doesn’t need Cousins skill set. If it was about most talented Cousins would have made it over Chandler. Losing Blake isnt as big of a deal as some make it out to be since the Euro teams play Zone not man. Its pretty hard for a big to dominate the USA with power when the team is playing a zone defense, not enough time. With Davis they get a big who can block shots run the floor and is long. Its not like he will play awhole lot anyway with Love,Bron,Melo playing PF most of the time
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 10:54am #695040
GoJOSH HUESTISParticipantThere are other bigs who could get picked over Davis but Davis is a player who they feel is going to be on future teams so they want to get his feet wet now, just like when they put Dwade,Lebron,Melo over other better players
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 11:45am #695077
ghrghrParticipantRudy Gay can play the 4 at the FIBA level, wouldn’t you rather take a proven scorer who can strech the floor? Maybe thinking about the future you take Davis, but that’s not what the olympics are about, its about winning gold. Davis won’t get anything but garbage minutes. Gay can be used as a change of pace player, who can guard 3s and 4s and run the floor.

ChewyParticipantJerry Colangelo has said that he wants "program players." That means he wants guys to commit to team USA at the U-16- U-21 levels. Anthony Davis took part in those teams when he was asked and Cousins didn’t. Thats why Cousins won’t make this years team.
0- Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 12:20pm #695102
Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantYeah, simply the committment and his seniority in terms of Team USA experience.

FastAndFuriousParticipantI agree with IndianaBasketball, Cousins should have gotten a look.
0- Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 12:18pm #695098
IndianaBasketballParticipantKobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James… All of the players have been talking about how Cousins has been a physical presence around the rim rebounding the ball and at the defensive end.
Isn’t that what they need? Size and someone who’ll be intimidating around the basket?

bloodthis could be career changing injury for Griffin… Im not really a big fan of him but its always bad to see young guys getting injured…

rhamnlacsonParticipantget cousins and greg monroe on the team

bobbybParticipantIt would be a shame if they put Cousins on the team to represent this country. Why not Greg Monroe??

WizardofOzParticipantGood thing he signed that extension!
0 - Posted on: Thu, 07/12/2012 - 5:46pm #695221
WizardofOzParticipantBut seriously, a meniscus tear is one of the least severe knee injuries you can get. It’s only a problem if you keep on tearing over and over again a la B Roy, where a slow deterioration starts. He’ll be fine.
