BJ Mullins is real athletic for a seven footer
Its not often that youll see a highlight tape and not get impressed. I hope the problem is that Ohio State's coaches tried to hide him, if not how are you supposed to help an NBA team if you cant break the starting lineup for a subpar Ohio State team.
But as for those tapes, a 7footer throwing down windmills effortlessly does make you want to see more out of him during a game
Please don't take thsi the wrong way, but aside from Kevin Love last year, what white big man has been a successful 1st round pick in the last 10 years ? I think BJ Mullens is overhyped and despite his athleticism, he will be a failure in the league. The Bulls already have one of those guys in Aaron Gray and he doesn't play. They'd be wasting a pick on Mullens. They should just trade out of the first round and package their 2nd rounders for a number 1 next year.
Mullens grabbed 1 board every 4 minutes roughly, so that'll will have to improve to be a legit Center. Sometime he shows pretty good touch from the field warrenting a Kamon comparison but he's not aggressive enough IMO. He shot better from the field then he did from the line at 64% and 56% which always makes me laugh. I think this guy could be a big steal or nothing at all, soooo mysterious.
To his defense i'm sure Mullins knew that ohio state was trying to hide him which im sure made him angry and hindered his confidence. All the tools are there for Mullins, which is probably his biggest weakness because he doesnt need to try to really make an impact or improve. Did the game choose him or did he choose the game?
You guys can't be serious... They went to the NCAA championship with G.O. as a freshman... Why in the hell would ANYONE have a great player on their team and not play them? For what? To save them for next year? You don't know what's going on next year...
BJ Mullens was lost majority of the year on both offense and defense... He didn't play "decent" until later on in the year and his minutes went up because of it... This dude will be a bust... BUST... He was ranked by this site before the year started as the #1 player... He couldn't give scouts half of what he was suppose to be... He didn't show off any of that athleticism either... At least D'Andre Jordan showed that off...
I agree with what much of Tuck243 said.
If there was one player in college basketball who needed to return for another 1-2 years to work on learning the fundamentals, it would be Mullens. Remember, NBA coaches don't have much time to teach, that's supposed to be a given by the time you become a pro.
Mullens doesn't understand the nuances of the game, and in general, he was completely lost on the court. The guy barely played during crunch time on his college team. In my opinion, he isn't yet ready for the Big Ten, let alone the NBA. He will be eaten alive at the next level.
I know many NBA GMs aren't very bright, plus they're enamored with height. I predict someone will draft him in the middle of the first round and he will ride the bench all of his career. He will be next on the long list of "dime a dozen" guys who have great potential, but never come close to fulfilling that potential.
He could be but probably won't. He doesn't have the work ethic but has everything else. He's second coming of Darko Milicic, u will be like wow this guys great but he will be a less than stellar pro. I don't see him having a bad career, he'll make money provide spot rebound, and shot-blocking but with his current attitude I don't see the career that was once envisioned for him before his college career, his horrible less than stellar, mediocre would be an understatement college career.
I agree with mellostar, not to many white big men make in the NBA. Not too many big men in general pan out, which puts pressure on teams to draft him because if he is the one out of a hundred that turns into something good you well kick yourself for not drafting him. Unless he puts on 25-35 lbs and develops into a strong man child ala Dwight Howard he won't stand a chance.
I have not seen the kid play one game just his dunk highlights. Whats the word on this kid? I guess he did not play much, but he looks real athletic for a seven footer. Will the NBA up and down game help him at all. I know guards in college don't like to feed the post. Does anybody know the deal with this kid?
