Why is he still on the draft board as a lottery pick? He isn’t putting up the numbers to be there and doesn’t seem ready foe the NBA. If he goes this year, he won’t be top 15. I think he should stay and wait one more year at least. He is gonna end up like kufos, ridding the bench for a good team. If he stays he could possibly go top 5 or 10 next year.

A GM would be crazy to waste a pick on Mullens this year I have seen him play a few times and I dont see what all the hype is about

BJ has tons of it. . .its just he needs one more year to really get to where everbody thinks he should be (top 5 pick). a la demar derozon. On my own mockdraft i put him on NYK if he does put his name in the draft. They need a big man lol.

I completely agree that Mullens is not playing up to his billing. I still see him with a lot of potential but i have heard rumors that Thad Matta is not giving him enough playing time (he is averaging only 20 mins a game) to ensure that he comes back to school for his Sophomore year. explaining his 9.8 points/game and 4.8 rebounds/game.

Come on now, DALLAS LAUDERDALE is taking his time. This cant be Matta’s fault, Mullin has to be horrible if Lauderdale is taking his time. He is a limited center and he is taking Mullens’ time on the floor. and yes, I agree Mullens has potential, but so did Saer Sene,Sam Bowie, and all those other centers who were drafted off of potential. I hate that word, all potential means is they look good in the uniform, but when you get to it, they suck. Mullen has a LONG way to go to living up to the hype, and then after that becoming a good center.

similiar prospects..both centers with great physical tools jordan 6-11 and mullens 7-0 both have great athleticism..neither really produced much at the collegiate level yet were considered top prospects.. jordan fell 2 the 35th pick.. i have no idea why but i just dont see the same happening for mullens.. just putting that out there.

mullens doesnt even have the quickness/athleticism that Deandre does and Deandre is having a tough time in the NBA…though, he is slightly better than I expected.

Caveman Kamen is good I dont know what youre talking about. If Mullens isnt picked in the top 10 then he’s a steal

Please tell me 14 people you would rather have on your team 3-5 years from now then mullens you draft on potential in the lottery because most teams in the lotto are more than one or two pieces away. And for the person saying Lauderdale is trash he is one of the top ten shot blockers in college basketball.

BJ maybe not so good now but after 3-4 years I think he can be top5 player of this draft class, he was #1 before the season, we can’t be so low on him now, he is same BJ with lots of potencial..and I think if he wuold play 32-35min he would avarage about 18ppg8rpg2.5bpg

Hahaha Mullens is a joke he shouldnt be be top 5 of any draft class he is big and athletic (thats it). He shows no dersire to play basetball and I dont see any high skill level or basketball IQ. Thad Motto doesnt play him becasue he is not that good. We dont know what can happen with any player in the future but I believe Mullens is a waste of a draft pick

All potential means is that a player isn’t good enough, drafting off of potential almost never works, unless the player is already very very gifted (derrick rose, rudy gay)

Andrew had just potencial and big body, and now he is top5 center in the league. Who knows maybe BJ also can improve like Andrew

(I just felt the need to re-post this here)
when will the nba learn its lesson with this kids. He’s extremely raw, and is not even highly productive on the college level and sometimes can’t even get on the court. And I don’t wanna hear this argument saying “oh, thad matta is trying to hide him so scouts don’t see him and he stays another year.” Thats garbage to me, the best players play no matter what, the coaches want to win and are not gonna risk losing games for 1 player, so I don’t want to hear that. The thing that gets me mad is that the gm’s complain a couple years later about the players they stupidly give all this positive feedback to and draft high, then they end up trying to get rid of them in trades cause they haven’t developed or just aren’t ready. Even though it will probably not happen, I believe he needs at least 3 yrs in school before he’s really ready to contribute. Come on, right now to me he’s nothing but a d-league send-down candidate. I see the potential, don’t get me wrong, its just that the production and experience level doesn’t match to a point where I’m comfortable taking this guy at all in the first round this yr. I hope a deandre jordan situation doesn’t happen to him, cause he just has so much more room to grow at the collegiate level, and I like seeing these kids develop. I’m a huge big east fan and watching guys like thabeet (even those he still has a lot of room to grow) and t-will grow is fun to see over the years.

Why everyone so low on DeAndre, ofcourse he was top10 prospect, but like for 35th pick his 15pg game is really quite good(just need more offense for being good center)

I hate when people use the word potential about players. Its one thing to have the potential and drive to be good but its another to say this guy has potential and he isnt doing a damn thing. Im still pissed mullens was ranked at the top of his recruting class. They said o he is the next great center after greg oden. Oden(despite wat he is doing now) had talent when he was in school. This mullens guy is pure terrible from wat i have seen

Some of these sites need to stop the forums because most of you have no idea what you are talking about whatsoever. Billy K you need to stop posting because you are an utter idiot. Anybody with eyes can see the upside with BJ, he is a legit 7-0 maybe 7-1 with NBA length and athleticism. He is young and has not yet figured out how to play the game. Do you not realize that it takes big men a longer adjustment period than smaller players. This notion that he doesn’t play him because he’s not that good is the dumbest thing I have heard all season, he plays and plays a lot, just because he doesn’t start doesn’t mean he doesn’t play. If you think coaches don’t hide kids to keep them from leaving you are very naive as to how this thing works. Matta can afford to not play him as much because he has competent people in front of him that he can win with. Did he sit Greg Oden, no because their was nobody else to play in front of him like a Lauderdale. Their is a mental component to playing this game not just physical and that is where he is lacking. B-Easy don’t post nothing else on here you say the most ridiculous stuff and you can’t even spell. This is how potential is spelled. When did Deandre Jordan start averaging 15 ppg ? You mentioned on another post that Evans and Henderson averaged more steals than Harden as if that makes them better prospects. Since when do teams draft guys based on their steal stats ? Jorrye24 was stupid enough to say that drafting off of potential doesn’t work unless the player is very very gifted. BJ Mullens isn’t gifted. Are you retarded or do you just act like this ?

Mullens isn’t as bad as he seems when you watch an Ohio st. game and he gets in he is actually productive i can see the athleticism and a little offensive game, i don’t think he works hard though-maybe it’s from that story that he didn’t grow up loving basketball and deandre jordan didn’t do well in college but earlier in the season when camby and kaman were injured he actually played pretty well, and you saw he was actually trying, i even think he had a 20 rebound game and a couple of more double doubles and he had like a 6 block game

Its intresting if you look at the draft the past 5-6 years alot of 7 footers with potential have been drafted high only to be busts. Potential can be a dangerous word when the NBA draft comes around, especially when it comes to 7 footers.

Jpowers u said sum real shit jus then. haha!! i also dont like when ppl get on bball sites and start rambling off bout shit and dont kno wat they talkin about. As for jposta boy…..my brother al thornton plays 4 the clippers and i watch a good bit of their games and deandre jordan has 2 be the laziest player i have ever seen. If its not an easy dunk or sumthin where he doesnt have to put much effort into then he wont do it. The comparison of him 2 dwight howard is legit i guess but it doesnt really mean much 2 me. people get compared 2 folks all the time and dont pan out. I mean brandan wright from UNC was compared 2 KG………………now does anybody really think brandan wright will be a KG? my point exactly

Disappointing is the best way to describe this young man as a basketball player. So far everything we have read or heard about BJ Mullens is “Potential”. I think he is doing the right thing for himself by entering the draft right now, even though he is clearly not even one of the top 30 big men in NCAA basketball right now! IMO everytime he steps on the floor he decreases his value a littlle more. Some will disagree with me but they will argue about his “potential”. Problem here is he lacks the heart and desire to become the best ball player he can be. It showed all year long. Don’t forget for the last two years this site along with others has had him as high as #1 draft pick this year. Where do we think he’ll end up? He’ll probably do very well in his individual workouts for the scouts and yes he does have physical talents that would make you say ” well we can make him into a true talent, we can help him realize his talent”. You’ll be the next suckers…..just like Thad Matta. Poor Thad what he thought he was getting was a kid w/potential and talent that just needed to develope, instead…one of the laziest big men to be hyped in a long time. Remember this fellow subscribers…”Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work”! BJ Mullens-Good luck & Good riddens!
