     Anyone catch the biosteel game yesterday? I was in attendance and just a few quick thoughts;

    – Basketball is definetly gaining traction in Canada (obviously), with the hype surrounding this game, some big names in attendance (Derozan, Masai, Jamal Murray, Jesse Owens, etc.) plus it was a fairly well run event to showcase some of the top Canadian talent.

    – Unfortunately, many of the top players were unable/unwilling to participate. Justin Jackson and Lindell Wigginton were injured or had other obligations. Simi Shittu and RJ Barrett were absent, likely also due to school obligations and most notably, Thon Maker chose to sit out the event because he wants to "focus on getting better, and preparing for the draft".

    – Nonetheless, the players who did participate are all likely D1 players in some form or fashion (keep in mind there are 300+ D1 basketball programs in the NCAA).

    – In terms of an "All-Star" game, the effort level was high with the players playing, for the most part, hard defense, not giving up easy layups or dunks and in the end the game became quite physical.

    – Some standouts for me were;
              – Koby McEwen (great scorer, physical, athletic, decent shot)
              – Kalif Young (very active/physical, went after every rebound)
              – Jerome Desrosiers (Seemingly grabbed every rebound, very active and strong)
    Plus O’Shea Brisset and Jahvon Blair put up a ton of points, leading the game in scoring.

    – The only player I came away "disliking" per say, was Matur Maker. Still extremely raw, he tried to do too much, too often, often trying to take it coast to coast with the ball flying way over his head as he tried to dribble, or trying to do things outside his comfort zone down in the post. Another note, was that it was apparent that many players on the court disliked him and his playing style as he got into it with a few players and got some looks from his own teammates. Him and his brother Thon also seem disengaged and disinterested from the rest of the players, warming up seperately and overall not really attempting to interact with any other players in any way.

    – Most players had solid performances and overall I believe the future looks bright in Canada, especially with players beginning to opt staying in Canada as opposed to going down to prep schools in the States which is a trend I only see becoming more apparent.

    Sorry for the long rant, just wanted to get my quick thoughts out there, not sure if anyone else caught the game, but if you did, any thoughts to add?
