Biogenesis case stretching to NBA
Whisleblower came out and said there were at least a hundred other participants than those named by the MLB and he specifically mentions that there were NBA athletes involved. Do you think this the first step towards an NBA witch hunt for PEDs users? Or will it be a small issue for just a few?
If it's true, I think Stern will take this and try to push for heavy sanctions right off the bat to keep it from turning into the headache baseball goes through every few months.
Two reported names are Jameer Nelson and Lebron James. I can post the link to the interview that reported this information in March. ESPN staying away from it so far and likely will not touch it unless names come out; especially if the players involved are big names.
Love to read that....I was wondering if there'd be any big names involved. Unfortunately this will probably drag on for ages before anything solid comes of it.
The league should be quick, decisive, and harsh. Come down hard now and it might avoid issues later on.
check this out http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Jameer+Nelson+and+Lebron+James , most of the links are talking about lebron and jameer. I think 41 game suspensions for first time and 82 game suspensions for second time offenders and just keep doubling the amount of games after that. Also say for 2 years they are ineligible for awards and things like the all star game.
He needs to make it happen quick, he retires on Feb 1st 2014, then it will be Adam Silver's problem.
I always thought hoops was the ideal sport for PED users. Enhanced athletic ability and recovery come in very handy in the nba.
I kinda figured a lot of athletes were users like Lebron and Howard...
I mean come on...there is a reason no one in history has had the physical stature of Lebron
I don't suspect Howard as much although I'm not excluding the possibility either. But I do suspect Lebron. The reason being is that he has put on a lot of mass without losing any speed, quickness, explosion, or endurance. He was drafted at 245 per draftexpress. Reports are that he is somewhere in the neighborhood of 260-265 at 6'8 and yet he is faster and quicker than guys like Rose, Westbrook, etc. But all are innocent until proven guilty.
I'm going to throw a name out there that some of you will be defensive about.. Kobe Bryant. I can explain if asked but there are some suspicious things with him that I've been noticing.
What suspicious things have you noticed?
Yeah, since nobody in history has swam as well as Michael Phelps or ran as fast as Usain Bolt, they have to be cheating. I mean, it couldn't simply be the fact that modern technology has advanced so much and that we as humans are evolving. I'm sure the same workouts that are done by athlete's today have been around for hundreds of years. All of the scientific tests that prove that modern technology and workouts are far more efficient than they were 10, 20, 50 years ago are all false...
I think this is a very interesting topic (and thank you for sharing the link).
I brought this up in a topic awhile back, just about PED usage overall, but this is a lot more intense if they are saying there are names associated with Biogenesis. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
I made a thread about this in 2012 but got no response. It's pretty obvious that some guys have done it (maybe still do) but we all know how much the NBA protects its stars.
Yes I realize this is not a unique concept and has been discussed before. I was just wanting to discuss this Biogenesis report from Miami and the possible stance the league might take.
Apb540, you nailed it. the NBA is a star driven league, and if a superstar of Lebron's caliber were to test positive, the NBA would lose hundreds of millions of dollars.
They do everything to protect their stars....EVERYTHING. When Rashard Lewis tested positive a few years back he was on the decline (but just a few years removed from being a borderline superstar). he was hit with a slap on the wrist and an adorable little suspension. Why? because the magic were a one man show with Dwight Howard, and the NBA wanted them to have as much star power as possible to throw them on a few primetime games, so they could make a few extra bucks.
PS: as a side note...if Rashard Lewis was juicing then its clearly a HUGE problem in the NBA because that dude looks to be barely over 200 lbs when he's ON the sauce.
I understand that a lot of this stuff is illegal and requires a morally ambiguous person to provide them, but I cannot understand why all these athletes go to the same place. Just seems like pretty poor planning - if you were going to use PEDs you'd be better off protecting yourself, especially if you're a high profile athlete. Guys like A-ROD and Braun can afford to find a personal supplier, but instead they all walk into the front door (an exaggeration) of a clinic called BIOGENESIS. I can just imagine A-ROD walking out as Braun is walking in, and being like "Hey buddy - don't get caught or you'll ruin us all. How's the wife btw?".
Also, no pseudonyms when buying this stuff? The picture of the biogenesis ledger literally has names of athletes - R.Braun etc on it... these idiots were asking to be caught.
This is all still highly speculative and circumstantial, coming from mainly 3rd and 4th parties who "claim to believe" that initials on a client list are those of a specific person. If this were evidence in a court trial, that case would be dismissed out of hand by a judge. Let's wait to see what evidence, if any, pops out in the future before we all start grabbing the torches and pitchforks...
Maybe the juice is the reason that Lebron's hairline is to effed up!
Maybe the juice is the reason that Lebron's hairline is so effed up!
i really hope LeBron isnt on there...we will never hear the end ....
I watched a laker game last season where kobe spun baseline and exploded up for a nasty dunk. The announce even commented that he looked like kobe from years ago. Now he is coming back from one of the hardest injuries a player can have, 4 months early? Got to think he has to be suspect.
It's what you call work ethic. Kobe got those skills because of hardwork you idiot hater
To add to it he is close to the end of his career so it is reasonable to think he could play a season or 2 and retire without being noticed/found out until after. Ray Lewis' story with roids after the superbowl lasted only about a week because everyone already knew he wouldn't play another game (assuming he stays retired).
I feel like PEDs in the NBA would be a lot more like PEDs in the NFL. We'll suspend guys, they'll sit out, and when they come back it will be over.
PEDs can definitely help NBA players. But you could still be a huge muscular fast dude and suck at basketball. Baseball is just infatuated with stats and since strength leads to homeruns and homeruns lead to stats, that's why it's such a big deal.
Don't get me wrong, if, and only IF LeBron was guilty, they'd make it seem like the biggest thing ever. But I have no clue how legitimate any claims against him are.
I do find the claims agains Jameer interesting...that'd be 3/4 of Howard's fellow starting teammates in Orlando getting busted. But he's clean right? Haha....
If both james is guilty of using PEDsand Duncan is gay/bisexual those were to big surpises that came out of nowhere, not that tim duncans thing matters, but it is at least a legitimate player being gay and is one of the last steps to when nobody will care about it and guys will feel more comfortable, Then lebron being implicated for using PED's, he would be the biggest name athlete to be found guilty of it, he would go down as a top 5 or 6 player in his sports history and it a lot more of deal than A-Rod. It would be like catching bonds in December of 2001 2 months after his 73 home run season and bonds still having a couple more peak years left.
All the laker fans above my post tossed in the names of LeBron and Dwight because they do things others cant. I make the suggestion we should suspect kobe because he can do things others cant. And I get neg'd? Lol put the kool Aid down and slowly back away.
Actually, I don't think David Stern would conduct the witch hunt that the MLB has or implement the blood testing that the NFL wants to put in place. No star player has ever been suspended for PEDs, the two biggest names is a washed up Rashard Lewis and Hedo, and that's about it. I'm sure Stern will do EVERYTHING humanely possible to ensure Lebron's name never comes up on any list.
