The last three years have been bad for both players. Injury problems, age, as well as not wanting to accept a non superstar role have hurt these All stars reputations. Mcgrady does have a chance in Detroit to end his career on a more positive note. Iverson's future is a little more up in the air. Hopefully the finishes out his career the right way in Philly. As of right now i would have to say A.I. has had a more disappointing last couple of years, but not by much.
i gotta say iverson. I mean its jus a sad end to a hall of fame career to me. I mean hes always had his little bit of controversy throughout his life but to end it with not playing very long with the grizzlies and then sort of jus quitting on the sixers his 2nd go round it jus hurts to see it. I really hope my guy can do something for some team in the future no matter wat role it is.
AI, could've been a top 5, atleast top 10 scorer ever, he's probably the last guy below 6'3 to ever be a dominate scorer in the league.
You're telling me T-Mac couldn't have been a top 5 or top 10 scorer ever?
32ppg at the age of 23.
the stats dont matter TMac cant play defense he aint no leader cant get past the first round.. AI always had heart always played the game with it, he hasn't been no disappointment to me considering all the years he was playin injured yet still dominating.. He's still good enough to start, Reggie Miller was starting despite the Pacers having a young Stephen Jackson on the team that's would u call respect to a franchise player.. the sixers tho ever since like 2003 havent been helpin AI out
For T-Mac it was mostly injuries but hes still only 31 and could get something together as long as he is somewhat healthy and accepts the fact that hes nothing more than a 3rd or 4th option.
I dont know what team is going to give him yet another shot. His stops in DEN, DET, MEM and the past season in PHI have all been failures with him either quitting ar the team just not being very good. Hopefully he gets his sht straigtened out cuz hes been a cancer wherever hes gone lately
iverson took a team to the finals with eric snow as a starting point gaurd and jumaine jones getting key minutes.. enough said, his body wasnt built to age gracefully with all the abuse he takes, a young A.I was fearless, anyone with half a brain couldof seen his eventual and rapid physichal breakdown
I'd say T-Mac is the bigger disappointment. Iverson has had bigger ups and downs in his career and limped into retirement with substance abuse, being a poor team mate and poor play looming around his head, but Iverson willed a team the the NBA finals. Iverson had playoff success, something McGrady cannot say. McGrady has been less controversial and a better team mate and citizen, but he has never advanced past the 1st round. That is the bigger disapointment to me.
How could Iverson or McGrady be top 10 scorers all time?
I dunno. Iverson was close ranked 17th but I doubt he would have cracked the top 10. He only was out of ball for what a season now? Tracy McGrady was 67th all time. I highly doubt he would have cracked top 10 because he had missed a season and that's about 2,000 to 2,500 points. He missed alot of this past season so I would add 1,300 to that he still would have been maybe in the high 40's.
Both had bad luck but both had slowed down and I doubt either makes a huge impact next season.
How was AI a disappointment, he revolutionized the game of basketball... Iverson popularized that hip hop street ball mentality in the NBA game...
neither one is a disappointment.
Of course you cant call eithers career a disappointment. Im talking about how the last couple season have panned out for them.
@ A MATIN
McGrady was a defensive role player for the Raptors. He chose not to play D once he figured out scoring points and using his energy being flashy paid off in endorsements, salary and CHING CHING more then hard D.
Look at where each is, an where each was 3 years ago. McGrady when from an injury risk, aging veteran to a post surgery aging veteran. Iverson was putting up 26 and 7 on an exciting Denver team to being boot from teams and suicide watch. I say Arenas has had a worse couple of years than TMac.
Oh and Oden's the worst... by far.
Im sorry but I can never put IVERSON and DISAPPOINTMENT in the same sentence. What more do you want from the guy? At 6 feet tall, the guy was the biggest OVERACHIEVER of all-time, there is not another guy in this planet that will ever do what he did at his size.
I'd say T-Mac is the bigger disappointment. A.I. has had a very successful career, and he will be in the Hall of Fame unlike T-Mac. When comparing both of them, T-Mac hands down. He hasn't even been out of the first round, while A.I. carried a team to the NBA finals. I don't see how anyone would say Iverson is more disappointing than T-Mac..
He's asking who had a more disappointing last few years, a few of you need to read the question again. A lot of you are answering and talking overall careers which isn't the topic. That being said, Iverson has been the more disappointing player the last few years.
a 6-9 wing with skills reminiscent to Penny Hardaway with all the skills and physical talents in the world or an 5-11 guard who had more heart and soull then any NBA player I have seen and willed his teams to win night after night how is T-Mac not more dissapointing at least Iverson has made it past the first round of the playoffs
Tmac easy, AI never had the supporting cast to win it.
76ers had a decent team but where was that great inside scorer or 2nd option.
In Denver they played no D and he just got hurt in Detroit but he had some sick playoff games.
Tmac never got out of the 1st round and the injuries really hurt maybe he comes back healthy and does something he's still young. They say the 2nd year back from knee surgery you improve a lot.
Also its the last 2 yrs for Iverson not 3.
in denver iverson had bacc 2 bacc 50win seasons I believe they lost in the 1st round to the championship winning spurs then lakers..detroit was a better team when iverson dominated the ball(i know it sounds crazy but itz true)..memphis and philly didn't give him a chance really last season in reguards to shots and minutes so idk but in no way can you call him a disappointment
as far as recently id say a.i. tmac has been injured so he has an excuse. iverson just didn't wanna accept he was no longer a guy who could carry a team
