What are better odds: Timberwolves advancing to the 2nd round of the playoffs in the western conference or the Cavs winning the Title in 2016? I’m going with Timberwolves advancing to the 2nd round.

I’m setting a reminder to refer back to this thread next year:

Its just a prediction. I think Wiggins is going to have a break out year, averaging 20 PPG. I see a lot of upside with Lavine and hopefully Rubio can stay healthy. I also think Towns is going to have a huge impact in his rookie year.

Lets be honest: When is Kyrie ever healthy? It seems like every year he is dealing with something. Coming out of college, he was hurt. I’m not confident he can go all season injury free which I think will cost the cavs as they go deeper into the season. As great as Lebron is, he is also human and getting older. His body has played more minutes than anyone in the NBA. If injuries start to pile up on the cavs, Lebron will be asked to take on more and he is not 25 anymore. Kevin Love has also had an injury history as well. He went 4 straight years only playing 60% of all games. He was injured in the playoffs (although that was not his fault)

Two of your best guys next to Lebron are not durable and one is constantly injured while the other, Love, has a pretty bad history of injuries and missing playing time.

I think this year the Cavs are going to truly regret letting Wiggins go.

Varajao can pick up the slack if others get injured.

He’s injured all the time too. Not sure how he’ll pick up the slack when he’ll likely be sitting behind the team in a suit.

If we playing some sort of betting thing, I’d put money on the Wolves…only because the odds would be like 100-1 while the Cavs would probably be closer to even money. So I’d put like $2 on the wolves.

I love the Wolves, but this is plain silly. I think they can realistically shoot for 27-35 wins. Rubio needs to play at least 65 games. Towns needs to learn to play without fouling. Wiggins needs to bring it every night and not coast, plus play 75+ games. LaVine needs to learn how to do more than be flashy. Muhammad needs to stay healthy, Payne needs to improve, Dieng needs to improve and if you get 40-50 games out of Pek, thats a win.

Cavs were 33-3 when Lebron, Kyrie, and Love were healthy after the trades accquiring Mosgov, JR, and Shumpert. If healthy they are the favorites to win the East which puts them in the Finals with a chance to win. They still won 2 games in NBA Finals without Kyrie and Love. The Wolves would first have to make the playoffs, then they would have to beat the Spurs, Warriors, Thunder, Clippers, Rockets, or Grizzles in a 7 game series. These teams all have proven superstar talent, have chemistry, and have made playoff runs before. The Wolves are not close to being on that level of those teams yet. Wiggins, Lavin, Towns, Rubio are promising but they need at least 2-3 years before becoming one of these elite teams. Wiggins, Towns and Lavine are all 20 or under. They have a promisng future but are not ready to compete in the West for a couple of years.

You got carried away dude. Should have left the choice at "Wolves make the playoffs or Cavs win title"

I’m guessing you took the scenario one step further in order to convince yourself that actually making the playoffs is a real, legit, possibility, and a restrained, realistic outlook for a Wolves fan.

My Celtics have the Wolves’ first round draft pick if they make the playoffs this year, so I have a vested interest in the Wolves this year, but I don’t see it.

For one, they blew their #24 pick this year on Tyus Jones, when they could have just gotten somebody like Phil Pressey or Kendall Marshall.

RJ Hunter has a a really good mentality for a point guard, while also being a Kevin Martin replacement.

Other quality guys were available as well, ready to step in and contribute as rookies. Harrell, Looney, Mickey, Christmas, even Dakari Johnson would have been a nice 3rd string center, and would have been the only beefcake on the roster besides Vucivic.

One thing about the Wolves is that they’re kind of soft and weak.

LaVine is weak against SGs and even a lot of PGs. Wiggins is weak against SFs. Gorgui Dieng is very weak against centers, and I don’t think Townes is the bruising type either.

Bennett and Shabbazz aren’t that tough either. And then there’s Kevin Martin.

Tyus Jones seems like a pick for the fans, but not quite for basketball reasons.

A playmaking shooting guard or a defensive instigator would have been better, imo.

Look, I love the Wolves’ young core, they are officially my second-favourite team behind Boston, but second round of the playoffs this season is madness.

Even if everyone stays healthy, Towns puts in a RoY level campaign, Wiggins and Lavine both breakout, KG mentors the hell out of everyone and Bennett starts to play up to his draft status they are just too young in the West to make playoffs this season.

Now I don’t think Lebron is going to win a title in Cleveland, either next year or the year after. He has too much sway over the team, undermines the coach and doesn’t have the legs to carry the team by himself like he used to.

I don’t see a Cleveland team with an ageing Lebron, injury-prone Kyrie and Love and basically no one else beating whichever powerhouse, world-ending monster of a team makes it out of the Western Conference bloodbath next season.

Golden State, Oklahoma City, San Antonio or even Houston with Lawson would all make short work of the Cavs if both sides are healthy.

Now, the 2016-17 season is a different story. Wiggins and LaVine would both be in their third year, Towns in his second year, Muhammad and Bennett in their fourth years and Rubio hopefully having put together a healthy campaign with excellent chemistry.

I’d be willing to bet on the Wolves making the playoffs in 2016-17 with Dallas taking a step back due to age, the Grizzlies possibly regressing if Randolph breaks down, Portland still out, the Kings still the Kings and the Suns just not as good as the Wolves could be.

But they still wouldn’t make the second round.
