A Better Draft Day Trade For Minnesota
Minnesota Trade Al Jefferson Pick 16 and 23 to Detroit for Tayshaun Prince, Charlie Villanueva and Pick 7
Minnesota use Pick 7 on local Boy Cole Aldrich. Tayshaun Prince can be flipped at the deadline for more assets
so their roster For the upcomming season looks like
Starters: PG Flynn SG Wes Johnson SF Prince PF Love C Aldrich
Bench: PG sessions SG Brewer SF Gomes PF Charlie V C Collins/Darko
With Rubio coming over in a few years and a high pick next year, this would be one of the better teams in a few years
Trade Lope sided I would rather draft a SG like henry or Bradley. Also getting a guy like cousins, monroe, or Favors with the 4th pick
i think minnesota will trade one of those picks and the 4 for the number 2 pick to take evan turner.
wes johnson doesn't have the ball handling skills to be a sg.
It seems like a solid lineup but Minny will have a really tough time scoring points all season. None of the starters are real shooters. If teams close the lane and make Minny a jump shooting team they are in trouble.
If you've been watching the playoffs, teams with shooters who can also play D have been the ones to move on. Boston has 3 excellant shooters in pierce, garnett and allen. Orlando has a ton of shooters but fairly average D and Howard has no post game. Phx tried to make artest the shooter last game and he caught fire. Fisher and Kobe keep teams honest and their bigs like Gasol and Odom shoot pretty well for their positions.
Why the hell would Minnesota want to get attached to Villanueva's awful contract? Add to that the fact that he isn't even close to the player that Love is going to be in the next 2 years and that he would be making an insane amount of money coming off the bench. If Mchale was running the show, possibly, but Kahn didn't spend all of last season dumping salaries just to stick the wolves with another horrible contract.
I chose Johnson and Aldrich with the picks Cause Kahn Said he wanted to get some character Guys. And Favours isn't going lower than 3.
As For Wes' Ball Handling Skills. With the Way the triangle works Flynn and prince and love would do most of the ball handaling. Johnson would Guard the 2 and spot up. until prince was moved, then he would shift to the 3
Charlie V's contract is bad, but Minnesota still has flexibility as they Get rid of Al's contract
Next year minny will be about 15 million under the cap
in this trade they send out 13 million from Al and Take back 18. that still puts them 10 million under the cap for Free agency, but who is going to minnesota?
After the 2011 season, tayshaun prince expires and Minny only owes Charlie V about 24 million over 3 years including a player option, as opposed to 29 for jefferson. over 2 years. plus an extension
so in the long term, the money is equal, Unless you count jefferson's extension which would depend on the new CBA
Also The charlie V contract will be expiring just as it becomes time to extend Johnson and Aldrich
Detroit would accept it in a heart beat
Stuckey - Gordon - Hamilton - Jerebko - Jefferson
Bynum - Andeson - Daye/Summers - Maxiel/Brackins - Pittman (reach but can be a great bench center)
The trade is good for both sides if I was Minnesota I would throw in Sessions/Gomes and keep the 23rd pick. Then the Wolves should draft Lance Stephenson to be the main scorer off the bench. Charlie V will give the Wolves the strecth 4 they dont have now. Detroit gets Big Al and gets one of the best low post scorers to complement Stuckey,Gordan, and Hamilton. Plus they get pick 16 and they could draft Whiteside if he falls to give them a shot blocker.
K. Love is a stretch four! He hits the occassional three and is good in pick-and-pop play from about 15 to 16 feet -- Chuck V. is HORRIBLE. I will stop being a fan is they do this trade. I've been through enough terrible trades as a Wolves fan to stomach this one!
Prince is over the hill and fragile, but taking on Villanueva's contract would be an Isiah Thomas like move. I would rather draft Cousins and rotate cousins, love, and al jeff before doing this deal. Cousins is a BEAST and with some coaching could be great. I'm not a fan of Wes Johnson aka the next Shaun Marion. Marion hasn't been good anywhere besides Phoenix where he could run and gun and Johnson will be the same.
I think Minn should try and trade Rubio and a 2nd round pick to the 76ers for the number to pick. that way the 76ers get their pg and minn should find away of getting rid of Jefferson so they can just start completely over. then they could get Turner and cousins.
and get a sf if they trade jeffersons to the pistons..... prince, Villanueva or draft one if they can get the pistons pick in the jefferson trade
Why do people seem to forget that we have Corey Brewer who really came on strong last season. He is capable of starting in this league. But we do need an additional SG/SF (preferably a SG).
Corey Brewers stats- 13 ppg 3.4 RPG 2.4 APG and stellar D. He is just starting to develop and now has a pretty consistent J, is a highlight reel on the open floor, and is becoming a fan favorite. Proving those who wrote him off as a bust early, wrong.
Draft option i am in favor of...
Trading up for Turner through a trade involving Big Al or picks
Taking Cousins if he falls to 4 and then grabbing a guy like Paul George, Avery Bradley, Jordan Crawford, James Anderson, Lance Stephenson later in the draft along with a legit C.
stupid trade...and Aldrich is a bust!
That trade w/detroit would b the stupidest thing the wolves can do. We need to start over now, not get sum bums and start over in 3 years
@ Kahn Jr
How does this trade not make them start over now. That team would not be that good next year, probably about 25 maybe 30 wins.
Tayshuan Prince is one of the best 2 way players in the league with a 12 million Expiring contract. He is an asset to be flipped at the deadline for a team that wants to save money. or a playoff team offering something good. he is also a great locker room type guy, that all the young players on that team can learn from.
Charlie V is a bad contract, but since the starting Front court will be on the rookie scale it evens out. The wolves will be under the cap by about 10 million next year even with this trade, and about 20 the year after, thanks to all the rookie deals, they will be in a position to take on money if they get something back
they Get the Number 7 pick to take the most talented person on the board, though hopefully they don't play the same position as the number 4 pick
What would you do? Assuming that you would have to take on Elton Brand's Sallary to get pick 2, because thats the only reason that i think philly should trade it
