I know a lot of players have go-to moves they use but 1 move in particular that is so effective is the jab step which is so deadly because it creates so much space for you to get your shot off.

I would like to know which NBA player has the best Jab Step?

I’m going to push for J.R. Smith until Austin Rivers makes his debut.

I’d go with Kobe as having the best jab step.

Either him, or Melo. Just look at the way Melo jabbed Deng for that game winner earlier in the season.

KD has a good one and with his work ethic it’s gonna be unstoppable in a few years.

Lebron has a decent one, saw him get deng on it tonight. It was a jab from hell and he hit the jumper to boot.

Yes really J.R.!!!!! Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I love his jab step & think his is deadly, but Austin Rivers will be #1 in this category 2012.

Word, JR Smith doesn’t have a good jab step from what I saw. Plus, he’s a shooter.

Carmelo has the best jab step

Carmelo’s jab step is crazy good, but if you watch him play alot he also gets many offensive fouls with his jab step using his forearm.  So I don;t no if I like his jab step getting 1-2 offensive fouls a game using his jab step.

But I actually like Darren Collisons jab step a lot. It’s not often you would list a PG here, but I think he used it effectively in all facets of his game in college. I think that has transpired into him being a good pick and roll player in the NBA, with ability to hit the jumper off a good jabstep if his defender is also worrying about a screen being set on himself.

JR Smith does have one of the deadliest jab steps in the league.

I would have to say Melo got the best jab step in the league tho just because so far he has been using it to create more production.

Eric Gordon is another player with a deadly jab step who should be one of the best guards in a year or two.

As far as big men go I am surprised nobody has mentioned Dirk who to me got the 2nd best jab step in the league, and will sometimes even shoot mid jab which is impossible to guard.

As far as PG’s go Steve Nash and Deron Williams both have amazing jab steps that they use efficiently when probing the defense at the top of the key.  Deron may have surpassed Steve in this category.

I have never noticed Collison and his jab but I do know that Jrue Holiday utitlizes a jab step very effectively while probing, so I wonder if it’s a UCLA/Ben Howland thing or something Holiday learned from Collison.

During his tenure with the Raptors I would have said Bosh. Not being a homer Raptor fan either, pretty mch everytime he was in an isolation play he would jab step pump fake drive, jab step sweep drive, jab step step back shot, or something. His was lethal. Id also say Kobe’s triple threat abillity along with his jab step is one of the best ever.

Stephen Jacksons main weapon is the Jab step, and although he may not be as good as a scorer as the guys you names I think his Jab step is just as effective if not more than the guys you named.

The best jab steps are usually the players who drive all the time and have their defenders on their heels. I like Monta Ellis’s jab, his first step is killer which makes the jab seem even better when he blows by people. I also remember T Mac in his prime had a nice jab step and then spin move, it was nice.
