He’s averaging 14 minutes a game. In those games, he’s averaging 4 field goal attempts per game and 4 rebounds per contest.

Some of the things I’ve liked about him so far don’t show up in the score box. Last night, he was playing great defense while in the court despite not getting many touches. He had 6 rebounds and 2 steals in just 12 minutes.

Remember, he wasn’t drafted to be a star from day 1. You have to admit he has a chance to be special if he develops.

Still not got one basket, averaging 0.7 points and 0 assists, is a bust so far, hopefully it will improve

On the team he is on, it is too early plus he is still not in legit shape. If he is still playing like this in December then there is a problem.

Obviously his NBA resume is relatively short so far, nevertheless his performance is alarming, I think. Has any #1 pick in the past had such a rough start to the beginning of the season?

On the contrary, at least Bennett is playing. If Nerlens Noel ended up going #1, as most of us thought, and missed he entire season, that in itself would have been a disappointment off the scale.

I also think Bennett will improve. I’m not, in any way, saying that it was right to choose him with the 1st pick. But I do think we should be more patient with him. Unlike most top picks, Bennett was chosen by a very good Cavs team. This is not the team that played last year is not the same team as of now. They have Andrew Bynum, Varejao, and a new and MUCH improved Tristan Thompson along with Earl Clark and Jarrett Jack. Top picks usually inherit teams where they will be spoon fed and would be allowed the opportunity to grow on the court right away, but with all this talent at his position, it’s gonna take some time for him to get comfortable out on the floor. 12mins a game wont do it IMO.

Also, he didnt play summer league because of his shoulder surgery after last season ended, causing him to still be overweight and trying to play back into shape and rhythm. I think that’s a valid reason why he should be given a little time before we call him a bust.

He has had a rough start, but he has the talent to be special. The problem is he is completely overweight and he seems to be mentally feeling the pressure. He played alright in the preseason so I feel he could contribute at that level this season once he gets in better shape and gets used to the pace.

I’ll wait to see what he looks like when he’s not a fatass, but I didn’t like him all that much as a prospect. He had quite a few red flags coming into the draft so I didn’t even have him in my top 10. He was soft for a big dude, had a low bball IQ, had signs of being injury prone, had the physical ability to bang but chose to drift out to the perimeter, has asthma, has the type of body type that could balloon if he doesn’t stay on top of his conditioning, got out of shape even though he had an UPPER body injury, saw himself as a wing when his best position was clearly at PF, etc. Even if it was a seen as a weak draft, I have very little faith in his ability to live up to his #1 pick status.

People suggesting he’s ‘a bust so far’ are insanely uneducated. He’s played a handful of games, he’s coming back from shoulder surgery, he was always going to start (and probably continue) with bench minutes this year given Cleveland added Bynum.

People just seem to thin ‘oh 1st overall, if he’s not playing well, he’s a bust’ because they can’t wait to throw buzz words like that around. I would never label a lotery pick a bust until he’s played at least a season in full health. Reality is Cleveland went with a long-play with that selection. They didn’t like Porter (The most obvious positional need) at 1st so they went with a guy they see a lot of long-term potential in.

I know this site has been slow with the upgrade a while back and the season only just starting but lets try to keep the post slightly thoughtful.

a lot of people are so damn impatient … if it’s his 3rd and 4th season and he’s still putting up nothing then he’s a bust but it’s his first 3 games and people already saying bust … hell when the Cavs drafted Tristan 4th a lot of people were screaming bust now look at him now 3 seasons in 23 years old and still improving his game

Bennett is 0/12 from the field, he has to improve on that !!

It took me a while to work out he was even on the court. I thought who is this zac randolph look alike with fluro shoes who barely touches the ball (his teammates were barely even passing to him) then i realized it was Bennett…

It’s not really like it could get any worse… so… yah, I guess he will improve.

It’s three games, but to be honest, I thought he’d do more than what he did thus far. Like many mentioned, his weight and conditioning is probably at the heart of his struggles. The NBA is a faster and more athletic game than NCAA ball, and he didn’t come in ready to play his best ball. That’s on him, but he’ll play his way into shape and I suspect he’ll have a pretty solid rookie year. I predicted him around 10 ppg and I still think he’ll get that as he improves over the season.

He’s so out of shape I’m just not even paying attention to what he’s doing right now. He literally got a breakaway and ran out of steam at the other foul line and missed a gimme finger roll short at the rim. It’s fine, he’ll be okay once he get’s in shape and stops shooting 3s like he’s got a Steph Curry mask on. I think he does his best work in the paint because even when he isn’t able to get his shot to go in, he’s able to draw contact and get to the charity stripe.
