OhCanada-ParticipantNo sitting on the fence here. Who would you take. There seems to be alot of people very high on Skal yet to rank him ahead of Simmons seems inaccurate to me. Skal shows signs of being a very intriguing player on both ends of the court but at this point he hasn’t proven enough in my opinion.
I think Simmons is just so good and has been the best in his class for so long people try hard to find reasons he won’t be successful like by saying he is not athletic which is ridiculous he is a great athlete at 6’10 230-240. He is a smart player with good size and athletisism for any position maybe even as a small C. He has gaurd skills and is very intelligent. Ben is a can’t miss prospect and is number 1 of his class.

TrillaParticipantPersonally, I like Simmons. From what I’ve seen, I havent seen many prospects at his age and his size, with such good feel for the game. He’s big, a good athelte, and there isnt anything that he is bad at. You can say he isn’t a great shooter yet, but he has good mechanics and there is no reason that he shouldnt get better over the course of his freshman year. With the league becoming so positionless, a player at his size and skill level becomes so intruiging. We’ll see how everything plays out over

sweaterflexParticipantSimmons has the edge right now. Skal strikes me as similar to Myles Turner, but a smoother athlete. It should be noted that both Simmons and Skal are on the old side for freshman, both will be 20 when they are NBA rookies. Simmons may be slightly underrated as an athlete, but he does not have high end explosive ability, and his wingspan (6’11) is below average for a power forward, ideally he extends his range and plays the 3. In the long run I think Dragan Bender and Brandon Ingram and maybe Jamal Murray will be even with Simmons as the best prospects from this class.

MopgrassParticipantI think the Ska being a fluid Turner (but with less range) is spot on. I assume Simmons will be the best from the class, but I also think Ingram might be too. Even with that wiry frame, he gets to the rim no matter what. I think Ingram and Brown will be in the mix for the 2nd pick as well.

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantIngram is my second favorite prospect for the 2016 draft. He has scary upside as a scoring wing and to a degree is being undersold because of his lack of strength. Kris Dunn is my 3rd favorite and Murray is my 4th favorite prospect.

GBeeParticipantIDK about Murray, but I would include Bender and Ingram in this discussion. Bender is just as unique of a talent as Simmons. He’s not as strong, but he’s taller, longer with a better shot and he’s younger. Ingram to me has the highest ceiling of any freshman. His ball skill, shot-creating and agility are phenomenal for a 6’9-6’10 kid.

SkalAndJamalParticipantBen is good but a can’t miss prospect might be a bit of an exagerration. We don’t know if he can defend or he’ll develop that jumper. You can’t last in the league if you can’t defend or shoot unless you’re an elite scoring center

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantLook, Simmons is an impact NBA starter today. Not after next year, not after "getting coached up". Today. The most NBA ready prospect since LeBron (and no, he is not the next LeBron). Now I don’t mean he is already better than every player drafted since LeBron, I said he is the most NBA ready teenager since LeBron. What’s ridiculous is the fact that his game has lots of room to grow even though he is NBA ready. His jumpshot needs work, and he needs someone to recognize his true strengths as a facilitator instead of looking at his height and saying he’s a post player, which he is clearly not. Rumor is he will play a lot of PG for LSU next year which will be great for his development as a pro. Gotta get comfortable in the role now. Not only is he the best distributor on LSU right now, but he is better than almost half the NBA’s current starting PGs (and I am happy to debate that point).

HoustonKid2013ParticipantWhy do people overlook Simmons jumpshot…Once Simmons plays against someone his size and forces him to shoot from the outside he will need to hit it consistently…. I seen his games on TV and his jumpshot needs work. He would rather pass or drive before he would shoot it.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI agree. He has no confidence shooting the ball right now and it would absolutely limit his effectiveness at the NBA level. Thankfully, he has a full season in college to improve it and I think he will. I really like him as a prospect, but to say he’s the most NBA ready prospect since lebron is a stretch imo. I can’t definitively say he’s more NBA ready than guys like Durant, oden, wall, Anthony Davis, or even Michael Beasley were at the same age. I do think he’s the best player in his class right now, but its not necessarily by a wide margin, and a lot can change in a year.

VRod305ParticipantI want Simmons, and not because he’s a 6’10 freak or that the Sixers already have 14 centers. If prior to being a freshman in college, he is guarding James Harden and holding his own, then he clearly is ready. Really hoping we finally win the lottery this season (or the Kings win it for us), this is a prize.

Bed HeadParticipantI always have the urge to go, "Oh, what the hell difference does it make, anyways? They both suck!" (I’m such a troll.)
But then I usually end up forgetting my actual point. Very frustrating. However, fortunately for all of you, this time I remember:
The suggestions of Ben Simmons being the next LeBron and/or Magic are so silly and over-the-top (even for this forum) they border on cartoonish. I mean, let’s be serious for a moment. Afterall, wouldn’t a much more accurate and realistic comparison be to a young Lamar Odom?
Cause yeah, I kinda think it would, actually.

OhCanada-ParticipantYou’ve been meaning to get that off your chest for a while huh…
So I took a look and yah…nobody actually compared him to Lebron in this thread. Not only that but the one time Lebron was mentioned it was tripledoublescout stating be is the most NBA ready player since Lebron while also clearly defining his opinion and adding he does not want to compare him to James or think he is that good.
With that being said this thread was created for everyone to cast their votes and actually state who they think is the better prospect. I want to see how many people think Skal is a better long-term prospect.

Bed HeadParticipantSee, due to time constraints, I usually need to cram and read a bunch of threads together (usually merging them based on topic). Then I pick the most recent/most active to comment in. So my spewings weren’t directed at any specific person. (Which is why I didn’t name anyone.) Sorry if you thought it was.

OhCanada-ParticipantNo problem at all. I do the same thing all the time and I agree on the lofty expectations thing…it gets annoying. Some guys just shouldnt be used as comparisons too. Seems like every elite bigman since the 2003 draft that is expected to go in the lottery gets compared to Tim Duncan including Chris Bosh, Jonas Valanciunas, Anthony Davis, and even this year with Jahlil Okafor and Kristaps Porzingis.
With that being said who do you think about is the better prospect Simmons or Labissiere.

Bed HeadParticipantIronically enough (despite what I just said previously). He is a far more unique, versatile player. And therefore better suited to the modern NBA. Plus, personally speaking, I don’t consider a young Lamar Odom (who sorely underachieved, actually) anything to sneeze at.
Also, I need to correct something I said earlier. The word "spewings" is clearly plural, thus should have been paired with "they were" rather than what I wrote ("it was"). Making that mistake has seriously totally ruined my entire night. Not kidding. (I have issues … it’s scary, I know.)
P.S. Plus probably should have used a synonym for "usually" in that second sentence. Rather than repeat the word. I apologize.

OhCanada-ParticipantHahaha your quite the character. I actually misspelled the word "yeah" as "yah" because I knew it would irk you. The usually mistake was just good old fashioned lack of intelligence at work (aren’t you jealous). Online grammar policing can be a tough this late at night. Lots of work to be done.
But yah Lamar Odom was expected to be the next Magic Johnson before Lebron James or Ben Simmons were even on the basketball radar. Never realized his potential due to a few loose screws in his head but was always a solid player and had a successful career.

Rip255I just sneezed all over Lamar Odom. He was a good third wheel, but he was also pretty much a dumbass too. Simmons is better now than Odom ever was. The post above about being NBA ready is probably the only half original thing I’ve read in this thread.
In fact, if Ben Simmons is still compared to a young Lamar Odom after 2 months of College basketball…I’ll fly to Hollywood and smoke crack with him and Khloe.
For those wanting new information…have a look at his 41inch vertical pic on his instagram (probably able to be googled). Tell me if you think it’s legit or less than 35 inches like a previous contributor stated.

GoJOSH HUESTISParticipantBetter now than Odom ever was is just flat at wrong. I’ve watched and played against Lamar since his Soph year in H.S. Everything Simmons does Odom could do as well. When he got to college it was more of the same playing point forward dropping 18pts 9reb and 4ast. Odom never lived up to his potential though and truth be told he never loved basketball like others and didn’t work as hard at it due to he lack of love/drive to be one of the best. We will see if Simmons loves it more and works hard to reach his potential

A team like w/ Phila that has 3 Studs in the Low Post would be a perfect fit b/c Dunn is V. mature & unselfish… I really believed & w/ Saric (who looks like he could be a V. good player as a point 4) taking some of the slack managing the offense it would be a great fit…

MkadozaParticipantBen Simmons. He reminds me of Grant Hill. Versitile, athletic, wants to drive and finish over you or kick it to an open man. Will be a plus rebounder for his position (which is definitely SF) and once he get used to the speed of the nba game, were talking an 18 pt, 7 rebound, 4 assist kind of guy. Another player he reminds me of is Richard Jefferson. In his prime he could do a bit of everything, was an underrated passer, and was a big, strong, athletic mismatch for most of the player he played against. I would rate him above Skal because his flour is so much higher than Skals, but the ceilings are identical which is top 3 at their position. I dont think eithr will be in the convo for best in the NBA, but I said the same about Harden and Curry so shows how much I know.
