After watching some summer league games it’s clear Ben Simmons has some of the best vision I’ve ever seen for a big man. I know it’s just a few summer league games but he looks so much like rondo it’s not even funny. He grabs boards and always makes the extra pass. People are projecting Simmons to have 9 assists and I actually think that’s low. I can see him as a double double machine next year. The only issue is it won’t be in points. I know he’s young but he doesn’t have the killer instinct. This isn’t a bash on Simmons he’s a unique talent but he doesn’t have the scoring mentality. He Will eventually develope a jumper no doubt but he will always look to pass and not shoot. It’s in his blood there’s no changing it. He scored 6 points vs the Jazz on 2 free throws and 2 lay ups. He only scored 8 against the lakers when he’s going against Ingram his rival. He is averaging 8 points shooting .232 In summer league. when he should be dominating offensively and he’s not. For people who say defenses are focusing on him he’s going against assistant coaches and 3rd and 4th tier talent. It’s only going to get worse once the season starts. I think he might lead the league in triple doubles but I don’t think he can ever finish a game. I think the Lebron criticism that he got is going to be 10 times worse for Simmons because he’s always going to pass up on the shots he should be taking.

     both puzzling & maddening……

I was shocked by how much better Simmons is than I realized — I agree w/ most  of your post…… w/ Real NBA players, Simmons gets 15 assists last night – EZ…..

But the Killer Instinct question is hysterical…… He is in Complete control on the court, he is the team Leader & it is unquestioned Already – which is Crazy……

Opponents are So terrified that he’s going to make them look silly that they drop off a full 5 or 6 feet….. He is Wired to look for teammates b/c THAT is what wins games….. He clearly understand he can get to Rim whenever he feels like it – so he surveys the scene & then makes a decision to drive & Dish or Score or continue to move the ball around the perimeter

Opposing Teams would Luv for Simmons to just take that space & shoot J’s b/c that will make it Easier on Them & keep his teammates from getting involved……

I do agree that in the Last 2 or 3 min of a close gmae then he must be a Bit more Selfish — but I really suspect he was allowing TJ McConnel to continue his personal War w/ D’Lo Russell — it’s summer league after all & he’s a Rookie, of course he’s going to Defer to Veterans or coaches or whatever…..

But in Pro Sports the game is about who can Impose Their Will on the Opponent…… Simmons reminds me a Lot of Magic & just like Magic he is WIRED to feed his Teammates & so far Simmons has Imposed His will on the Opposing team & they have No answers….

Now if Teams start Shutting Simmons down & he is Forced to be an Outside Jump shooter like what Jeramy Grant did to Brandon Ingram last night then Phila fans should be worried — but "Killer Instinct" is the player doing What he wants to create a Bucket for His team on His terms……..

Though he does have great court vision, he needs to become a better and more aggressive scorer. He hasn’t shown me very much outside of ten feet from the basket. Nobody can be the best player in the league nowadays averaging 15 a game, which with his current scoring skill set. He won’t be able to get to the rim against bigger and better big men in the regular season.

he should take shots in summer league.  nobody will fault him.

but he is setting a ball-sharing mentality.

the French guy Luwawu that played for that upstart Mega-Leks team.  He hasn’t had good coaching, for them they wanted to establish a flashy young athletic NBA type team.

Well that doesn’t jive at all with Simmons.  Everyone is going to have to have a defined role.  Stauskas better focus on being a setup bang bang shooter.  Embiid and Okafor will be presences in the paint.

Luwawu will be a great 3 and D guy once he sets himself into that defined role.

But Simmons makes everyone better.  As much as I dislike Lebron since he is put on this Titan-status, the dude makes everyone around him better. Simmons makes everyone around him better and plays within a system like Curry, whereas Lebron with Miami was playing basically 1-on-1 ball, no real system ball which is why they lost some of those Finals series.

I’m not so worried about Simmons shooting, I don’t think it needs to be blown out of proportion.  He needs to finish better, but he doesn’t have to take htat shot since he is playing chess out there.  He always sets up his teammates with great shots.

Okafor and Embiid are going to have so many easy buckets.  Saric and Luwawu are going to have to hit those open threes.

This team just needs more snipers…badly.

Have to remember he’s just 19. He can really handle the ball, especially in the open floor, is going to be a very good rebounder and will be one of the leagues most exciting players because of his ability to pass the ball. It’s been a long time since a kid his age really got me excited about their ability to pass the ball.

He is a team first guy, looking to set people up, almost to a fault. I could easily see him averaging 10 boards and 10 assists this season and be under 10 points per game. It’s quite possible.

But let’s see where he’s at in 2-3 years and how much, or if, he improves his ability to score. If he does, he’s going to be amazing, and if not, he’s going to be really unique because I still think even if he doesn’t improve at all he could be a key part of a winning team because he does a lot of things really well.

Need to watch Simmons more but it LOOKS like he gets guys easy shots. Even compared to a guy like LeBron who is a great passer but mostly gets guys open or semi-open 3 point looks.  Hey, gimme a guy like Magic who gets guys layups or easy points on the fast break.  Or a guy like Larry Bird who can hit you on the break, and feeds the big men inside for point blank shots, with Bird HIMSELF taking the jump shots, long 3 pointers or contested runners. Bird got the OTHER guys the easy shots and took the TOUGH, big money shots HIMSELF which Iike more. Hopefully Simmons will be like Magic or Bird.

     Just Wired to set guys up…… Magic averaged 19.5 pts; 11.5 Reb & 7.2 Assists on 50% FG% & 30% 3pt %

but Magic Developed his outside shot as he grew Older

Magic went 9 Finals in 11 seasons b/c when you have a Special player like that he makes Everyone on the Court w/ him a scoring Threat…..

Basketball is Not a Individual Sport……. No player – not Jordan, Kobe, Dr. J, Kevin Durant, Allen Iverson has Ever won the Title by trying to become a "One Man Show"……
