Don’t look now, but Harrison Barnes just had another career night. Barnes had 26 tonight against Boston College in a 106-74 win, in Chestnut Hill. The shot against Miami has really boosted Harrison’s confidence and his shot selection has been outstanding these last few games. The Tar Heels also got 16 from Reggie Bullock and 18 from Tyler Zeller.

The Tar Heels are now in tied for 1st place with Duke. Should be a great game next Wednesday at Durham.

It all started after the GT blowout.  Roy moved Marshall to starting Point and brought Drew off the bench and it has been best for both players.  Did you see that nasty assist Marshall had to Zeller in the 2nd half?  This guy is one of the best pure passers I have seen and he’s only a freshman.

The team isn’t panicing early on like the past either.  BC was up 11-6 and had hit 3 3’s.  Normally this is the point UNC rushes shots or turns the ball over several times and Roy has to call a time out around 20-6.  However now they stay calm and with Bullock finding his form coming back form the knee injury and McDonald still shooting well (and also discovered a floater tonight) I’m starting to buy into this team again.

Henson is a joy to watch if you like watching disciplined defense, a good attitude, and the long arms and legs that give him the ability to make shots others just can’t make (reverse dunk, the palmed-left handed lay up, etc tonight).

Then we come to Barnes, who is finally playing like we all expected him to from day 1.  His shot selection is key and he is able to relax and use his perfect form to make effortless shots.  It’s too late this year, but he should be PotY next year (and if he likes education like Roy says he will stay at least 2-3 years).

Lastly we come to Roy.  After the blunders to Minn and Vandy I thought he was in for a repeat of last season.  Then came the Illinois loss and that reinforeced my thoughts.  I was actually begining to worry if he got lucky in 2005 (not his recruiting class, i.e. Felton/May/McCants) and that he got lucky he got a legendary type player in Hansbrough to carry the team to all those wins for 4 years.  The above talent though, is all Roy and is all very good.  They were just young, with no true point guard to lead them, which gets back to Marshall.  He is that point guard and looks like a 4 year type player.  Taking a look at next year’s class and the talent on this team I think UNC could be back to stay for the next 3-5 years and maybe longer if he continues to recruit a mixture of star 1-2 year players and good 3-4 year players.

Switching Larry Drew for Kendall Marshall was huge- I don’t think Dexter Strickland complimented Larry Drew and the change has been great for both. Larry had 9 assist tonight and got 6 assist from Kendall Marshall- with only 3 turnovers.

Great defense tonight by Dexter Strickland on Reggie Jackson- Reggie was 2nd leading scorer in ACC play and didn’t score the first 12 minutes of the game and was held to 6 points on the night!

Dexter is made for Roy’s fastbreak and those opportunities haven’t been there until recently.  He is going to be a great 3-4 year player.  He is a great defensive guard who can lead the fast break and finish easily.  He needs to shy away from shooting though, unless wide open b/c he is very weak there.  He has shown he can hit the wide open 3 and those should only be taken if wide open, lol.

Other than that, I’m starting to see this team play really good defense and really good offense of late.  2-3 weeks ago I would have told you Duke would sweep UNC this year.  Now, I’m not that sure that UNC isn’t an equal threat.  UNC has always had the talent to beat anyone in the nation.  They are starting to live up to it–right in the thick of conference play.

Strickland needs to be told to bo straight up with his jump shot. Twice tonight he was falling back as he was releasing the ball.

Everyone just has to learn some patience.  Being a freshman in college is fucking tough, let alone being a freshman on a D-1 team.  Anyone who has gone to college knows what I mean haha

Not only has Barnes gained confidence over the past 4 or 5 games, but the whole team seems to have developed a better chemistry with Marshall starting at the point.  The swagger that they showed tonight should give all UNC fans something to smile about….The Duke/UNC game should be highly intense next week. The Barnes vs. Singler matchup is one that will be closely watched by many NBA scouts

I never left the Barnes bandwagon, you can find any post about him and I just said you need to give him to adjust to the college game and he always had the talent and skill he just needed to put it together, others will jump on the bandwagon but I really don’t mind, I am just glad he is doing well as of late.

I still have yet to see Barnes beat a defender off the dribble. Most of his points are coming from mid range jump shot, where is the player that I saw on those high school highlights who constantly attack the rim? It almost as it seems he is afraid to put the ball on the floor and create.

Finally Roy listened and is starting Marshall…Coach Williams must’ve promised Larry Drew a job as his assistant when his college days are over and Drew promised not to tell anyone about Roy’s kinky sex fetish of seeing midgets in high heels and 10 gallon hats…

Barnes slowly is adjusting to the speed of the college game…But i’d love to see him trying to create plays and attacking the basket …

I am happy he is playing well, however I am not back on the bandwagon. I think he will be a good player eventually however I still never think he should have been a preseason All American.

He just doesn’t seem to have that dominate personality. He is an extremely skilled player, I mean he is 6’8", can dribble, score, etc. However, I just never felt like if I needed a score I wanted the ball in his hands. I may be wrong about him, but that is just what my gut tells me. However with the draft being this week, I think he should come out, I can still see him being top 5 based on talent alone.

Always said he can ball and he has skill. Still think he needs to stay another year even if he continues to play this way. He still settles way to much on his jumper
