I have been thinking to myself since the ending of last summer whether or not I would prefer Mohamed Bamba over Deandre Ayton.Previously I would tell myself "Hell no," but as of late my mind is beginning to change.Bamba has had a big time Junior season for his high school and his motor has been running high all year. Ayton is a tremendous prospect that gets compared to Dwight Howard and David Robinson and I understand it. I think Bamba is just as good of a prospect though and he appears to have a better head on his shoulders (Considering Harvard seriously). Kid is very well spoken and in interviews makes sure to give thanks to his Mother and his AAU coach for working with him on his skill set and putting him in the position that he is currently in. Ayton has a lot of off the court questionable things going on with him (school,Guardian, handler, and questions about his work ethic). I truly feel Bamba is the safer pick. I caught him live a few times this season and his skill set actually seems better. One thing that stands out is Bamba will go to his left hand with no problem and will actually play the block comfortably. Two things Ayton is hesitate to do. Bamba is also a better weakside defender.

For guys like us who keep up with upcoming prospects ESPN is showcasing both of these young men against one another next saturday. Should be a great test for both.

So, him considering Harvard makes him have the better head on his shoulder? I get this is your opinion and I will respect that, but I don’t really much care if he seems to be better at interviews and being better off the court.

I believe it’s pretty clear that Ayton is the better prospect than Bamba, I believe Wendell Carter is also the better prospect and is much more closer than Bamba.

I’ve personally been around both and one appeared to have better off the court habits than the other. Wendell carter is more productive than both but he isn’t the prospect that either of them are.

I think Ayton is an amazing physical prospect with great athleticism and skill but has some tendencies he has to get rid of. He settles for the jumpshot way to often and although he is not soft and doesn’t shy away from contact he doesn’t seem too concerned with asserting physicality and exploiting his physical advantages. In those regards he reminds me of Lamarcus Aldridge who has a 7’6 wingspan at 265 yet still settles for low percentage jumpers from time to time.
