estebansfParticipantComing out of HS, which one would you rather have as a college team with NO needs? As an NBA team, if you could pick straight out of HS, which one would you take? Also, does anyone else seem to notice that Rivers has gotten a lot bigger and quicker over the past year? I know this is natural but as a junior, he always seemed a bit slow and now he is really fast.

SubZeroParticipantI’m a huge fan of both. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with either. 2 of my favorite prospects for the next few years. In college, I say Rivers. His scoring ability will fit in the college game. In the NBA, I’d say Irving. In a league where great PGs are the next big thing, Irving’s game will translate perfectly to the NBA. He’s the next Chris Paul.
Yeah I have noticed that about Rivers. The 1st time I ever heard of him was when Winter Park played Pinecrest last year and he and Brandon Knight combined for 90 something. He must have put in a lot of work over the offseason between his Jr. and Sr. years. I can’t wait to see him at Duke. I really try to model my game after Rivers.

estebansfParticipantYeah I should have put this in the original question but if you had a comparison for each that would be great. People compare Irving to Chris Paul which I can kinda see but the Rivers to Stephen Curry one I don’t get at all. I see more of a big Monte Ellis with a Curry jumper than anything but that’s just me.

The lake show2Out of Hs i would have taken Rivers. But right now I’ll taken Irving because he can not only score but make others better and make it easier for them to score. Austin is a offensive juggernaut but he doesn’t make others better

The lake show2Are you saying Irving is as good as CP3 right now?…i hope not. If Cp3 was playing for duke right now im guessing his numbers would be ridiculous

estebansfParticipantWhen they were both Freshmen, Irving at Duke and Paul at Wake Forest, Irving was better. Paul got a lot better once he entered the league (I think he stayed 3 years).

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantIrving vs. PaulWhen they were both Freshmen, Irving at Duke and Paul at Wake Forest, Irving was better. Paul got a lot better once he entered the league (I think he stayed 3 years).
———————————————————————————————————————
Debatable. Irving played very well in the first 8 games of the season averaging 17.4 PPG, 5.1 APG, 3.8 RPG and 1.5 SPG.
CP3 averaged 14.8 PPG, 5.9 APG, 3.3 RPG and 2.7 SPG over a 31 game freshman season, won freshman of the year honors from several publications and averaged 21 PPG in Wake’s three game tournament run.
He was flat out awesome and saying the Irving was better when Irving has only played in 8 games so far this year is a bit unfair. For the record Paul stayed two years in college and was one of the best college PG’s of the last decade in the brief time he was there.

estebansfParticipantIf you watch the games or old clips Irving is farther along in his development than Paul was as a Freshman. He has a better jumper, can finish left better, and has a better understanding of the team. You may say this is debatable but Irving was the same in the FIBA World Championships as he was the first 8 games at Duke and I think his numbers actually would have gotten better as he seemed to come into his own during the Michigan State game. After that game he became the best player in the country.

The lake show2oh ok. That doesn’t prove he will be better than Paul as a pro though but its possible. There are alot of bigs who were better than Duncan as a freshman
He said CP3 now though

estebansfParticipantI think Rivers just won the Naismith Prep Player of the Year award it’s on his Twitter. He shoots a lot more than Irving and I think that Irving didn’t win it because he had really good teammates like Mike Gilchrist so he didn’t have to shoot it as much. My dad thinks Irving’s better and I think it’s pretty close I’m not sure though.

SteroidParticipantTo say Irving will be the next Chris Paul is unrealistic expectations… Some of you are underrating how good Chris Paul actually is. Chris Paul is a top 5 NBA player when healthy, and some guys are anointing Iriving to be that good when he hasn’t played not even half of a full college season? Smh… That’s a disrepect to Chris Paul, imo.

estebansfParticipantI was just saying when they were both freshman Irving is better. I’m not saying Irving will ever reach that level.

The lake show2He was pretty good at Fiba but Austin was head and shoulders the best player on that team and tournament. and that was before his SR. year in H.S.
As far as both of them as freshmen its very debateable. CP3 also had a great understanding of the game, high basketball IQ, good defender and scored when he had too. his stats could have been better scoring wise but just liek now he was more into making his teammates better first.
