Austin Nichols commits to Memphis

He is a 5* PF, ranked number 12 on ESPN. This is somewhat of a surprise, most thought he would go to Tennessee. So this is a very big get by Pastner.

Nichols should make a huge impact immediately. He is very skilled and is a good athlete. He also has good height and length for a PF. He should be a good NBA prospect in a couple of years.

Great get for the program

Great get for the program considering he's so skilled and advanced for his age, yet doesn't profile as a one and done, maybe not even a 2 and done type player. He's the type of kid who could stay for 3 yrs or so and be productive from the jump.

Memphis is absolutely LOADED

Memphis is absolutely LOADED for 2013. Nick King, Kuran Iverson, and Shaq Goodwin all could come off the bench along with Geron Johnson, Markel Crawford, and Rashawn Powell. If Adonis Thomas stays then Nichols could come off the bench. Crazy crazy depth.

Can't blame the kid for

Can't blame the kid for picking his hometown school. I knew this was over for Memphis when Nichols dropped out of the USA team tryouts (which he definitely would've made) and wanted to go home because he was feeling homesick.

Still surprising since Duke would've given him all the PT in the world and Tennessee not only has one of his best friends and teammates Robert Hubbs going there and his twin sister going there, but also his girlfriend.

Btw Duke has had no luck in big men recruitments in the last couple years. Right now they are looking VERY thin in the front court for 2013.

I think Duke is banking on

I think Duke is banking on grabbing Jabari Parker and playing him as a perimeter 4. Besides him they are left with Marshall Plumlee at Center, Josh Hariston at PF, and Alex Murphy and Amile Jefferson as combo forwards. They could also make a run at Dakari Johnson too.
