Probably not the best time to start a thread about Aussie role player free agents con sidering we are two days before the draft  and amidst a few teams having a fire sale, but anyway…

Patty Mills, Joe Ingles, Aron Baynes, Bogut all available.. can they help anyone? Where are they going?

I see the Spurs keeping Patty and getting at least one other. Ingles definitely made himself some money this season.

I don’t see Ingles or Mills switching teams. Will be interesting to see where Bogut and Baynes land. Baynes can be a serviceable back up centre on a contending team. Bogut is reduced to a specialist role at this point.

As an Aussie NBA fan I think about these things too haha! I agree Choppy, I think Mills and Ingles will stay. They’re not superstars by any stretch, but I think each of their respective clubs value their output. I also think both those guys will be happy to sign for less than they could get elsewhere to stay with the teams that allowed them their productive NBA careers. Personality wise, I don’t think either of them are the kind of guys that would want to play for a bad team for the sake of earning more money.

Realistically, neither are going to be in the league for that many more years (Patty is 28 and Ingles is 29). I think they’ll both get looks from other teams, but I think they’ll both show loyalty to the good teams they’re currently with.

I think I rate Baynes higher than most other fans do. He dominates in international play and his per 36 numbers for the Pistons have been pretty damn good. He’s obviously a bit of a throwback big, and would have been a better NBA fit if he was playing 5 (maybe 10?) years ago. That said, I think he could do well against opposing small ball lineups because he’s so big and strong. Mark Gasol is effective in today’s fast paced NBA for the same reason. Sure Baynes struggles to stay in front of quicker players, but who’s going to stop him down low on the other end if your biggest defender is 6’8 and 220 pounds?!?!

As for Bogut, I’ll always have love for the way he plays, but he’s definetely winding down his career. He can still help teams with his rebounding, shot blocking timing, passing, and screens. I think his passing from the post in particular keeps him relevant in today’s motion offenses. Not sure where he’ll end up though. I think he’d be a really good fit with the Cavs, and I was really bummed to see him go down with that injury like 4 seconds into his Cavs debut.

    Keeping on the Aussie subject….

What do people think of Jonah Bolden as a prospect? I actually think he could end up being a steal in the second round. I’d love to see him go to the Sixers at #36 for the Aussie connection with Simmons and Coach Brown. Doing draft research and seeing footage of Tony Bradley and Thomas Bryant, I genuinely think he has more upside than both. They’re both pretty slow and Bolden has some serious length and hops. He’s already got NBA three point range, and is a pretty decent passer too. His one-handed alley-oop catch and throw downs are a thing of beauty.

    Thoughts???

I have Bolden as my bolter for the first round. I think someone will take a chance.  Big guy, some touch, from a professional family.  Playing in Europe was a good move.

Sorry, that was a short novel of a post. I think I’ve had too much coffee.
