The Hawks are among the teams squeezing in a minicamp for draft picks and “street” free agents before the pending lockout. They haven’t released the full roster of names because they want to make sure the players invited show up but the following guys are expected to attend in addition to second-round draft pick Keith Benson:

    • Joe Alexander (6-8, F), the 2008 lottery pick by the Bucks who didn’t have his rookie contract extended and later was traded to Chicago. The Hornets waived him last November and he ended up with Texas in the D-League.
    • Qyntel Woods (6-8, G/F) is the 2002 first-round pick by Portland who last played in the league for the Knicks in 2005-06. He most recently played for the Polish club Asseco Prokom.
    • Marcus Landry (6-7, F), the Wisconsin product who had three brief NBA stints in 2009-10. He played for Reno last season.
    • Donald Sloan (6-3, G) is a Texas A&M product who played last season with Reno of the D-League.
    • Vernon Goodridge (6-9,F) was the fifth pick in the 2010 D-League draft. He played for Maine and Springfield.

Update:The Hawks released the full roster today. In addition to the players above, it includes the following free agents:

    • Zach Graham (6-6, G), the Peachtree Ridge High product.
    • Demonte Harper (6-4, G), whose name sounds painfully familiar.
    • Jeremy Hazell (6-5, G) of Seton Hall.
    • Dontell Jefferson (6-4, G), a five-year vet of the D-League.
    • Ivan Johnson (6-8, F), who has played 94 games in the D-League.
    • David Lighty (6-5, G), who was ranked No. 35 among 2011 prospects by DraftExpress.com.
    • Demetri McCamey, who was the No.50-ranked 2011 prospect by DraftExpress.com.
    • Eniel Polynice (6-5, G), who played at Seton Hall last season after transferring from Ole Miss.
    • Matt Rogers (6-11, F), who played last season for Texas in the D-League.
    • Omar Samhan (6-11, C), the St. Mary’s product who played for Zagaris in the Euroleague last season.
    • Damian Saunders (6-7, F), who was ranked No. 69 among 2011 prospects by DraftExpress.com.
    • Malcolm Thomas (6-9, F), who was ranked No. 60 among 2011 prospects by DraftExpress.com.
    • Brad Wanamaker, who was ranked No. 41 among 2011 prospects by DraftExpress.com.

The Hawks Dont have money to pursue better free agents so they will have to be content with this. of this group i would love to see the hawks sign David Lighty. Omar Samhan Malcom Thomas, and Quentel Woods or maybe Zack Graham. Of these guys realisticly who would u sign if you were the GM.

Omar Samhan he has size and he i belive at this point you can get more out of him than Josh powell and Etan thomas combined.

David Lighty deserved to be drafted. He is a player that doesnt do anyone thing great but he is solid in all areas and i think that he can help a team.

malcom Thomas Im taking a flyer on. He doesnt rebound great but he can rebound and you can always use that.

Quentel or Zach Graham are m,y guys to come in and score the ball. I would lean harder towards Graham bechause he can shoot the three ball very well.

Lighty Jr. to me is the best players of the group. The thing working against him is the Hawks already have Joe Johnson and Jamal Crawford at the SG spot. He plays more like a SF than a SG though, even though he’d be undersized, but I could see the Hawks scooping him up to be a reserve.

I think they have 30 Million comitted to the backcourt without Crawford. Crawford is a free agent. I dont think he will take the mininmum soi say there a 99.9 percent chance that he is not back in Atlanta.

I’d give Joe Alexander, Marcus Landry, David Lighty, or Demetri McCamey

imo, McCamey is def. an NBA player, no star or anything..but he’d be a pretty decent backup PG for any good team…
Lighty is a great defender, every good team could use a guy like that
I’ve always like Joe Alexander, he could be a decent 7-12th man on a team
And Marcus Landry had a short stint with the Knicks, I like what he contributed, he could shoot, post-up, defend, does a little bit of everything, but not great at anything

Joe Alexander was working out with Memphis (along with Josh Davis, Will Coleman, and some other guys) so I guess he is making the rounds.

I would look to sign Lighty and Samhan.  Lighty for solid wing play and Samhan for is offensive potential inside.

I saw Samphan play in person in the NCAA tourney last year against Nova and he looked tremendous. I was shocked when he was not drafted since he had size and was so good playing back to the basket. Any team could use another polished post player like Samphan

Samhan can’t get off the floor. That’s his main problem. If he’s lost weight, he can be a 3rd big man, but if not he will be a liability on D and he will struggle to get his shot off on offense.

I just love his ability to score in the post plus we need size and i dont feel we can do much better with our salry cap restrictions.

from the list only David Lighty will be attractive sign for them but i think for him there will be better situations to go and show his game.

on the other side they nailed it with the Keith Benson pick, he is someonw they could really use, other than Josh Smith and Al Horford  they on;y have big buddies but with no talent, Benson is big but also has some talent, i thought he should have been an early second pick.

If they finally trade Josh Smith (i don’t hope so but it can happen), it depends on who they would get back for him… but if the team stay in the actual situation :

    Teague/Hinrich

    Johnson/Sy

    Williams/Rolle

    Smith

    Horford/Pachulia/Benson

I think Lighty would be a no-brainer, Thomas could help but I wouldn’t take another player from this list… It would be great trying to get another undrafted prospect, Rick Jackson from Syracuse must have a chance to prove he can fit.

Joe Alexander had a great season in the D-League. I don’t know if he has actually improved much but he put up great numbers last season. David Lighty is an NBA player, it’s as simple as that. Lighty is the kind of guy, the ultimate team player, that fell victim to his own unselfishness. The chameleon type, he will adapt to his team’s needs, like a chameleon adapts his color to its environment. He does everything well, blends in perfect, does all the intangibles, and he will be vastly underrated. I’m confident that with the right circumstances, he will end up in the league.

The kid is a load down low but as JNixon said he can’t get off the floor.  He also is not very fast quick or any quality that NBA scouts are looking for.  Production in college means a lot less than potential and his ceiling is as high as his 6’11 frame.  Side note: I’ve partied with the guy because I’m friends with other St. Mary’s players and he likes to wear his sunglasses at night in doors.

The 2 best players to sign for the Hawks out of this group would be: Malcolm Thomas & Damian Saunders.

Thomas would be a good energy big man to bring off the bench.  Sanders is a great defender who can guard multiple positions.  Every NBA team needs energy & defense.

There are various players on that list who warrant a better look imo. It seems that Qyntel Woods has come along quite nicely in Europe, so I am curious what he could do on the NBA level. For me other players include Brad Wanamaker, Lighty and McCamey. I am also quite intrigued with Ivan Johnson, he has some skills but unfortunately has a bad temper to accompany that.
