AdamJCallejaParticipantI’ve always been intrigued by the standards of the athleticism ratings on this. I’ve always found them very accurate so I wondered which guys in the past would be rated a 10 in the past before this sight started rating them. Of course Lebron would be a 10. T-Mac would probably be a 10. I would say Kobe is a 10. Would you guys rate Iverson a 10? (Not too many 6 footer could get up like AI back in the day) Amare Stoudamire would be a 10 imo. Steve Francis would also be a 10 in my eyes. Who else?
I’ve also felt the standards have been raised over the years. If they were rookies today, would Thad Young still be a 10 or would Rondo still be a 10?

Ebown5ParticipantYou better believe that Iverson was a 10. He was as good an athlete as anyone that ever played the game.
I agree on Kobe, Lebron, Tmac, and Amare. Steve Francis is a maybe. Definetly not for Rondo or Thad.

AdamJCallejaParticipantI forgot about D-Wade, Dwight and KG. Those are the obvious ones from the 2000s. I never got to watch 90s NBA but I’m sure Kemp would be a 10. Would Grant Hill in his prime be a 10? (Never seen him in his prime)

Ebown5ParticipantGarnett and Dwight sure, along with Westbrook and Blake Griffin, but not Wade.
Wade is a great player, but I wouldn’t say that he is a 10 athletically. Not as this site defines it at least.

Mr. JewboyParticipantI think Steve Francis is definietley a 10, go check out his higlights.
What about Gerald Green? I also think Jr Smith and also Baron Davis was strong quick and could get up.
D-Rose anyone?

gbmantisParticipantShaq in his prime is an easy 10. I would probably say the same for Ewing and Olajuwon. A young and healthy Rondo would also be a 10 for me, one of the fastest I’ve ever seen with the ball going baseline to baseline.

GrandmamaParticipantShaq was a 10 when he was younger. I’d argue Olajuwon was a 10 basically his whole career, especially early on. If any of you haven’t seen Olajuwon in his 1st few years in the league, I suggest you find some video of him. I’m sure you can find footage of the finals when Houston played Boston. Some of the plays he made in that series were jaw dropping. Ewing was never a 10.

GrandmamaParticipantOther 10’s not mentioned (in their prime) that come to mind;
Derrick Rose, James White, Kenyon Martin, Shawn Kemp, Ruben Patterson, Desmond Mason, Keon Clark, Andre Iguodala, Harold Miner, Isaiah Rider, John Wall. Tired of thinking….

julius2790ParticipantThis has always been an interesting discussion for me: What do we really mean when we talk about "athleticism?" It’s got to be about more than jumping, which is what we always think about. Lots of guys like Rodney Carney who are super explosive but can’t rise to the top level of the game. What about footwork and coordination? Hand-eye coordination? Body control? Muscle memory?. I think we should reevaluate how we think about what it means to be athletic. The metrics they use at combines don’t tell us how these guys are going to compete on the court.

GronounoursParticipantAthleticism and ability to play BB are 2 different things of course. I don’t quite understand your point. It’s as if you said ‘what does ‘great shooting stroke’ mean? Some great shooters aren’t great players, so we should reevaluate how we think about what it means to be a great shooter.’ Doesn’t make sense at all.
