TyroberParticipantIf this trade happened Philly would no longer have a stadium because the fans would riot and tear it down while every front office person in Orlando would probably all get a million dollar bonus. Now don’t get me wrong because I like Affalo and think he is a solid 2guard, but let’s get serious here because you aren’t getting the rookie of the year for him.

NardDog NationParticipantWhy trade a player with a dozen more seasons left in him for another career that might have 5 more years at best? MCW will be a quasi all-star type player, which is why this deal would make no sense.

KDThunder35ParticipantI agree with your logic on the career length being too large between the two. Afflalo isn’t going to get you a championship in the next 4 years unless the Sixers make some other major moves to couple with their high draft picks this year, then it could possibly make sense.
However, I do agree that they should move Carter-Williams while his stock is so high. I think Hinkie knows what he is doing. MCW put up outstanding numbers to the naked eye, however, he wasn’t efficient at all. MCW barely broke 40% FG% for the year, which yes he still is a rookie, but his FG% at Syracuse wasn’t so hot either. The pace the Sixers play, tops in the league, has Carter-Williams with more opportunities to "pad" his stats. His length does allow him to get steals, but, he was beat off the dribble by opposing point guards A LOT this year.
If I were Hinkie, I would try and trade MCW while he is a hot commodity, and get either another good draft pick this year, or a bad expiring contract that comes off the books next year to sign a top tier free agent. This would allow the young draft picks from this years draft to get a year under their belt and get accustomed to the NBA. The next year hopefully the talent and direction of the team can pursuade a top tier free agent to sign with the team.
I just don’t think MCW can be a NBA Championship caliber point guard due to his lack of outside shot consistency coupled with his poor one on one defense. Sell high Philly.

NardDog NationParticipantIs Michael Carter Williams even 20 yet? Yes, he has his flaws but what young player doesn’t. I’m not necessarily opposed to moving him but he is clearly no finished product yet. The safer bet is to see how he develops over the course of his rookie contract and to then make a decision from there.

KDThunder35ParticipantMCW is 22. Ya, you could have him play out his rookie contract for cheap, and yes he will get better as he gains more experience. I guess I was throwing out the option that they can sell high on MCW as his role could diminish on their teams in the near future with 2 high draft picks this year as well as a lot of available cap space.
As this is just a personal opinion, I would sell MCW high and receive some assets in the form of picks or expiring contracts, and select somebody who runs the point guard spot more efficiently, as well as plays better on the ball defense. MCW had a decent amount of knick knack injuries this year that had him miss decent chunks of time. I hope that he doesn’t keep getting injured, but his body in it’s current state will keep getting injured until he gets stronger.

SwatLakeCityParticipantHe just got awarded ROY and we are already talking about trading him? What kind of effort does a player have to show in order to not get traded? I think he’s shown enough effort. He’s very young and still learning. So the fact that his fg% hasn’t improved that much is understandable. He seems like a guy who wants to improve so I hope he will work on his FG% in the offseason. That to me warrants no trade. Lets see how he improves next. If no improvement then I think Hinkie should consider trading him.
That report on the Sixers interested in Exum is completely bogus. He was just trying to get some interest which he definitely accomplished but that doesn’t mean it’s legit. I understand trading a player when they are a hot commodity but you also have to have some consistency if you want to be successfull. You can’t have consistency if you keep trading away rookies. I don’t think the Sixers should draft Exum. I think they should look at Wiggins, Parker, or Randle before looking at Exum. Then with the Pelicans pick get a true 2 guard that can play some point. Lavine or Harris would be perfect with the Pelicans pick.

CavFanPRParticipantExum wouldn’t be a good fit next to MCW as they are both ball dominant and aren’t very good shooters. They should play it safe and draft Wiggins or Embiid and trade Thad.

King CaluchaParticipantYeah… a backcourt rotation of MCW, Exum and Wroten (not sure if he’s still on contract) would be disastrous for spacing purposes.
