hiphopismylifeParticipantNabbing Brandon Ashley is a major statement to me. They were already doing a terrific job of getting great talent, but being able to add a top 5 power forward when they signed two top 100 bigs last year and had one signed already for 2012, and still recruiting another in Kaleb Tarczewski, says Sean Miller is working as hard as any coach in the nation in the recruiting scene. Not to mention they beat out Kentucky for him.
In addition, getting Gabe York (who I consider the biggest sleeper in 2012) when they already have a very strong core on the wing is really impressive. Stockpiling this type of elite talent is rare, because usually many guys want to see what the class in front of them accomplishes before they pledge to a school, but Miller is finding a way to make these guys believe in his product.
I heard today that Ashley’s commitment pushed them to the number 1 spot in the 2012 class rankings, and I don’t think they’re quite done yet…….
Last year was no fluke. The Wildcats are back into the elite in college basketball for the long haul.

mikeyvthedonParticipantI mean, who would want to go to a school with beautiful weather, perfect girls and a solid coaching staff? On a serious note, they are looking quite nice as far as recruiting is concerned. I know they are in the running for Shabazz and Kaleb, though I would be a little surprised if they get either, but this current haul is pretty damn awesome. I have a feeling that Ashley might be a one and done, but he will have a big impact. Jerrett and York both look like gamers as well, liked what I have seen from both of them.
Starting next year, with at least 3 of their 4 current freshman (Josiah Turner, Nick Johnson, Sidki Johnson and Angelo Chol), they should be the top of the PAC-12, barring of course UCLA getting Kyle Anderson and Shabazz Muhammad (which is a rumor). It is a bummer, because I really thought that Ashley might come to Oregon. He could have been the star right off the bat, and play with former teammate Jabari Brown (though I guess Zona did have his boys Turner and Nick Johnson). As much as I hate making comparisons, Ashley brings flashes of Derrick Williams. He should play 3 and 4 in college, and do it at a pretty darn high level. Well, we will have to wait another year for our giant breakout recruit, and have to suffer throw hopefully continuing to kick the heck out of Arizona in football.
