If You Were The Wiz, do you keep the quixotic and insanely gifted guard or do you suffer thru another really bad season, without much on the court if you trade him for a pick, player and/or an expiring contract or two.

First, as I have said on this site before, this is a good draft, on paper, better than last year depth wise, so a mid to late first round pick if a playoff team wants him may not be a bad thing.

Second is there a demand for him right now, and will he be Arenas from two and a half years ago or the shell from last season?

Third, Should the Wiz go on an all out Bring Melo home campaign to help satiate their fanbase, Melo can opt out next year and for all the talk about this year’s free agent crop few teams planned for next year, (except Kings, Bucks, and OKC), so why not go after him.

The Wizards will likely end up with Favors, Cousins, or Monroe in the draft as I expect that Wall, Turner, Johnson go top three with Nets, Minny, Sac/GS getting those picks. That said if either of them particularly Monroe or Cousins come to Washington and you get another pick and another young player could Washington become a destination for a free agent in 2011/2012?

Lastly, whoever your pick is do you really want Gilbert (if not reformed) as their mentor.

I have only heard the Wiz say they plan to keep Arenas, but does that really make a lot of sense given the Jamison trade and the Butler trade? Guess we’ll see, but what do you think?

im higher on arenas then most on here. I still remember him leading the wiz in the playoffs when they were going to war with the cavs and lebron. Guys who can score like he does are valuable. His play last season had a lot to do with him coming off an injury and trying to get back to 100%. The silver lining from his suspension is that he had a ton of rest instead of trying to rush back. Health should not be an issue next year. And I would be shocked if he didnt learn from his incident and become a better man and leader becasue of it. The wiz can still build around him.

The Wizards don’t want Arenas, but they’re stuck with him as of right now. They can’t void his contract and he’s too expensive to buy out. He still has four guaranteed years on his contract worth $80,154,456. There is no demand for him, so they can’t trade him… He was tough to trade before this season considering his injury history and contract. Everything that happened this season has made him almost impossible to trade as of right now. He’s only played 51 games in three years.

The Wizards had no choice, but to say they support him and plan to keep him at this point. I think their hope is that he’ll rehabilitate his knee, game and image enough next season… So that they’ll have enough leverage to trade him.

There were reports that the Wizards were looking at the option of voiding his contract, but decided not to even attempt it since the NBA Player’s Union would never have it. It would’ve been a messy situation that the team didn’t need, considering they’d still end up being stuck with Arenas anyway. As I said above… They’re in a situation where it makes sense to publicly support and say they plan to keep him.

He’s never been the leader they hoped he’d be and has been immature throughout his career. The whole gun incident (the second one of his career) this season and the way he carried himself after it occured not only embarrassed him, but it embarrased the entire organization. I think that IF Arenas wasn’t being prosecuted and going to be suspended for the season, they would’ve pushed hard to trade him too (along with Jamison, Butler and Haywood).

I just think Arenas has worn out his welcome with the organization and the fans. As I mentioned above… He’s only played 51 games in three years. And then he had the odasity to criticize and blame the Wizards earlier in the season for the way they’d handled his injury.

i think innitially they defenitely wanted out of that contract and to dump him. But once arenas finally accepted his responsibility and they were able to dump everyone else and still clean house, the thought of arneas getting some much needed rest and maybe hitting rock bottom gave them the impression he will bounce back form this. Of course that is just my opinion, but i think at this point they are comfortably on arenas’s side.

Arenas had no choice, except to accept responsibilityand hold himself accountable. The law was breathing down his neck and so was David Stern. For a good portion of time after the incident, Arenas didn’t take it seriously. He’s lucky he didn’t get significant jail time. If it was anybody else, they’d have been locked up.

We’ll see how it all turns out. He’d better be on his P’s and Q’s during the summer and to start next season.

i would be surprised if he doesnt show professionalism form here on out. He lost like 12 million dollars and had his image ran through the mud and dissapointed countless people. I would lose all respect for him if he does anything to get negative attention again
