I want to give update on Greek basketball player Antonis Koniaris, that I first talked about here 3 years ago….

He was one of biggest guard talents in world at age 16, as he was MVP of world under-16 international tournament.

Now, he is 19, and he is like a NCAA college freshman, if he was American.

He is 6-3 tall 190 pound combo guard. He plays both guard positions in offense and defense, and can play on ball or off ball, and can run screen roll.

He is athletic, he is a good 3 point shooter, he is a good ball handler, he is a good play maker, being good at creating his own shot and shots for others. He is also a very good defensive player and can lock down most of the point and shooting guards he faces in Greek League and Champions League.

He is play now in Greek club PAOK, so plays in both top level Greek League (one of best national leagues in Europe), and also in European wise league of Champions League, which is the 3rd European league, after EuroLeague (first) and EuroCup (second).

In Champions League are mid level Greek clubs, most of the best Adriatic League clubs, a mid level Russian club, one of the best Spanish clubs, the best French clubs, most of the best Italian clubs, mid level German clubs, mid level Turkish clubs, mid level Israeli clubs, the best Baltic League clubs….

So even though it is 3rd European league, the level is still pretty good and much better than old 3rd level EuroChallenge. Champions League is like modern version of old original 3rd European league of Korac Cup. Like old Korac Cup, it is 3rd European league, but you still have good players, good teams, and good coaches. Definitely higher level than D-League or Divison I. Same with top Greek League.

So as a 19 year old like NCAA freshman, he is playing in better level than Division I and D-League.

Koniaris had a terrible knee injury which cost him basically last 2 years of his career. But now, he is back (after about 2 years) from his knee injury and he is showing he is still one of biggest guard talents in all of Europe.

Here is a recent video of him:
