avavalisParticipantI’ve been thinking about it a lot lately…. how do you see the comparison between these two ?? Both long, lanky, freakishly athletic w/ developed perimeter skills and tremendous defensive insticts .

Anton123ParticipantI think Anthony Davis is more of a true PF, he already has some moves in the post and is slightly bigger, while Josh Smith is more of a tweener with no real post moves.

surveParticipantI like Smith better honestly and I think he is much maligned due to the still rawness of his offensive game. He is the Rajon Rondo of forwards. He is a missing piece on a team just waiting to get a title.
the thing is, Davis gets most praise for his defense, but I think in the NBA he is going to be a better offensive player than most people think but not as good a defender as a lot expect.

Meditated StatesParticipantDon’t see Davis having that game. I do think he is more of a natural 4 though than Smith. Davis will need to get bigger. They will try to punk him in the L. He will see guys his height and taller with supreme athleticsm. He sees none of that in college. He will be good but it will he a whole different game.

avavalisParticipantI see all these differences but i doubt very much if the post moves davis posses can translate to the nba due to his lack of strength .. as for the tweener post about smith i think he’s just a forward no sf but no pf either .. garnett in the early 2000s was something like this..i dont say garnett is or was a tweener but at least he was a do it all forward somewhat like josh and potentially like davis

HadzialijagicParticipantDavis will for sure be able to gain weight as apparently he has gained 30 lbs this past year. Last years Mcdonalds all american game had him listed at 190 lbs and he is at 220 right now. I dont really see much alike in their games as Davis is 6’10/6’11 and could be able to play center. Someone who to me is a really poor mans version of Josh Smith is Terrence Jones they play similar Terrence just isnt the athlete or shot blocker.

PulseGlazerParticipantIt seems like Davis has a better idea how to impact a game than Josh, but yeah, I see some similarities here.

M-EazyParticipantI do not understand this comparison at all.

Moon RiverParticipantI don’t see the comparison as well. For some reason, I see Davis being comparable to Marcus Camby.

ThepessimestParticipantAnthony Davis at this point is already a smarter basketball player than Josh Smith and to me will impact the game at the next level as much with his brain as with his physical attributes and skill set. While Smith has been playing very well lately he has those moments where you have no idea what he is thinking out there.

carefulParticipantIf I had to compare anyone from this draft to josh smith I’d have to say Royce white. He’s athletic, has great handles and is a pretty good passer at the sf/pf position. The one knock on his game is very similar to smith…outside shooting

Meditated StatesParticipantIdk. Talking about a season Pro who was good his rookie year in J Smith. Davis smarter? I just don’t know.

Anton123ParticipantRoyce White has conditioning issues though and Josh Smith has been known for having one of NBA’s most perfect bodies
Smith’s athletisism is just on a completely different level than all these guys, especially the younger Josh Smith, maybe people forgot how athletic he was. The vote for most athletic player was basically split between him and LBJ
