aramboneParticipantI have not seen much of Anthony Bennett in actual games, and his highlights look a lot like Brandon Bass highlights if Bass chose to lift his legs up like Shaq when he dunks.
I don’t doubt that Bennett is better or at least can be much better than Bass, but can you explain the hype to me? Physically they are almost identical coming out. Bennett looks pretty chiseled and close to maxed out, so he’ll probably end up at 250 like Bass is now, with the same height, wingspan, and jump shooting game.
I don’t doubt that Bennett is a more consistent shooter, with deeper range, better hands, and a quicker first step.
I read about his power game down low being his other offensive gift, but will that really translate to the nba at 6’7” and 240-250? Maybe he starts out as a floor spreader and driver, and then adds the post game as he gets older over the next couple years.
I had trouble placing him in my mock i posted a few days ago. I had him going to detroit, but almost wanted to drop him to okc.
It almost seems Plumlee could end up just as good, but like I said, I didn’t see much of Bennett and I have only assessed him by highlights and scouting reports.
Thanks in advance for more info.0 - Posted on: Tue, 05/28/2013 - 1:38pm #785424
kobyzParticipantBennett is more of a versatile player on offense with inside outside game, his play is similar to that of Antawn Jamison type, a player which use to go for 50 in his prime.

Raef LaFrentzParticipantAntawn Jamison has one of the most unorthodox games in the history of the NBA. Little flip shots, off-balance side-armed shots, just some ridiculous stuff. I don’t really see the Jamison comparison. But he is definitely more skilled than Bass. Maybe this guy’s ceiling is somewhere around a Larry Johnson type player? I really don’t know.

zer0d0ubtLol, now tell me about how Russell and Mudiay are elite prospects and way better than Grant and Payne and Wright…

Ghost01ParticipantThis is an awful comparison. Have you ever watched EITHER play? Brandon Bass shoots 15 footers. That is it. That is the only quality he has. Bennett is so much more versatile with the ball, and has a post up game, and is a better rebounder and outsider shooter. Can he play downlow at the next level? Why not? Interior play and rebounding has always been about skill, not size. Otherwise Hasheem Thabeet would be awesome. There are plenty of 4s that are in the 6’7 range, and most teams go small for the majority of the game now anyway.

MopgrassParticipantEvery team needs somebody who can guard LeBron. Bennett is one of the few guys with the strength and speed to pull it off (as much as humans guard LeBron anyway).

eleqtrique87ParticipantDefense is his biggest weakness. Along with a lack of motor that he would be in dire need of guarding LeBron all game long. LeBron would drop 82 on his ass.

GoJOSH HUESTISParticipantSorry but Bennett can not guard a lebron. He doesn’t have the foot speed or regular speed nor defense to do it. Also this guy has said he hasn’t watched AB much so you can’t get on him too much on the comparison. AB is a lot like Larry Johnson except he has better handles. He has the potential to be a all star due to his body, skill motor and athletic ability. This is one of the few guys who will come into the NBA and still have ny issues physically. The scary part is he has the potential to play SF

T Rexbumped for ZachAttack.
Note the similarity of the impassioned support for D’Angelo Russell compared to the equally impassioned support for Bennett two years ago.
Some revisionist kid in two years will be saying, of course Russell wasn’t that good a prospect, but it was a weak draft, and a Jeremy Lin level prospect was all you could expect from the #2 pick.

T RexAt the time, saying Mason Plumlee looked just as good as Anthony Bennett was blasphemy, because Mason Plumlee was ranked in the 20s. Nobody ever asked "Why?", and just defended the already established mock draft order as gospel.
