This man is showing top 3 abilities at this point. Looking like a combo forward in the best way possible. Move him up in the mock.
He's got beastly shoulders and a good frame, but I think compared to other players, I think he may only be about 6'6". I'm not a big stickler with height, but for scouts, it may hurt him.
That's why you can't just look at highlights. Today wasn't one of his better games and it wasn't a stock boosting game IMO. I thought UNC's length bothered him.
I still don't see how he could be considered a combo forward. He's a PF all the way to me. I can't see him playing out on the perimeter and/or checking NBA SFs.
This was my first time seeing him and thought the same things. I liked his offensive abilities but saw some laziness(UNLV offense was a lot of standing around/ISO) and the problems with UNC length/size. He definitely has a place in the league but he struggled this game, because of that size and athleticism of his opponent. Not a combo forward though.
Really liked the play of Bryce Dejean-Jones aslo.
Anthony Bennet is clearly a better prospect then anybody on UNC"s roster especially McAdoo. Was really rooting for UNLV today because I love their roster, and became a fan the moment Savon Goodman decided to play there. I wish they would give Goodman and Bhirch more PT tho. Also Katin Reinhardt is a player to keep an eye on down the line he should develop into a very intriguing guard prospect in another year or 2.
anthony bennett is a lottery pick w/o a doubt
Seeing his smooth pull up and those times when he took James from the perimeter. He looks like he will be able to establish position in the post whenever, as he's wide, and has a low centre of gravity. Also, once he improves his handles, and maybe slims down just a bit I can see him being effective as a slasher from the perimeter in 1-1 situations, and also pretty effective in pick n pop with his jumper. UNC's length bothered him, but I felt, especially at the end of the game, he was being looked off quite a bit by the guards. This was a great game by both teams in reality. UNLV made a nice comeback.
I don't see him posting up as much at the next level. More so facing up, playing in space around the elbows
because he has a nice shot and blow by ability vs PFs. I don't think his blow by ability will work as well on the perimeter, especially beyond the 3 pt line vs NBA SFs, which is the problem that Derrick Williams has.
How is he going to slim down? He has a naturally husky body type.
Wasn't impressed by either team or the game. They both looked like poorly executing teams. I don't think UNLV will get that far with their guard play.
They both executed as well as the average team dominated by underclassmen. I like UNLV to go further in March as they have more room to improve, and players who are on a higher learning curve. I also don't see him being much of a threat out side the 3-line, but he has the body type to create space at the elbow, and the quicks, athleticism, and power to be a real force slashing from the elbow. A lot of post prospects tend to struggle with giving up position no matter where they post up (high, mid, or low post) due to being those tall, lanky straight up n down body types. I really see a resemblance to Jason Maxiel with him, but with more uses in more systems due to his ability to handle and shoot. In a draft like this, that is a top 3 pick, and a career 15-8 player in the league.
definitely wasn't one of his better games....but he was forced to put up a lot of bad shots, considering him and marshall were the only ones who showed up....
Anthony Bennett is a monster hands down. He didnt play his best game today but he showed flashes and I think he clearly proved that he's better than the strong and athletic but unskilled McAdoo. Bennett is a pf at any level. He has the ability to handle the ball in 1 on 1 situations and can also shoot the ball. Some people says he is undersized. I dont think so, but if he is, his shoulders and explosiveness make up for it big time. I think he played well today though. 15pts and 13 rbs. He missed shots but he didnt have near enough as many touches as he shouldve. I was getting upset as he went several possessions without touching it. I like Anthony Marshall but he should know that Bennett needs to touch the ball every other possession down the floor, even if its just as a decoy. It was so many times where they would come off the screen and not even look at Bennett rolling to the goal. I know he's a freshman, but I think he's earned his right to be the go to guy on that team even if he is struggling.
I don't know but he kinda reminds me of a 6'7" Zach Randolph with his inside-game plus his brute strength and i think his explosiveness and athleticism make up for the lack of elite height
He seemed a bit too starstruck at the beginning which explains him missing some easy shots at the beginning.
-I like his motor, always ran the floor looking for an easy bucket
-He needs to bend his knees a bit more on the 3s
-He looked a lot better than McAdoo today, he jumped out on the TV to me.
I dont know what he may develop to in the L but I wouldnt let him pass me at like 10-13 spot.
Both Mcadoo and Bennett's weaknesses were exposed in this game. James is easily knocked of the block and his rythm in the post is thrown off against stronger players; Bennett showed that he had a little bit of trouble finishing over length, I think him refining his outside game would allow him to be a better scorer it would also allow him to draw bigger big men to the perimeter and drive past them. I would compare him to Paul Millsap.
UNLV doesn't really seem to deserve their lofty ranking after watching this game. Terribly undisciplined.
Still, I loved the flashes from Bennett. To be honest he reminds me a lot of Brandon Bass.
Yeah Brandon Bass & Clarence Weatherspoon are the 2 guys that come to mind when watching Bennett....People might say Larry Johnson, becuz of the similar built, height and both UNLV players...But Johnson was a more complete player, could play with his back to the basket and play on the perimeter......Alot of people are going overboard and saying Bennett is the 1st pick..I see him going in the 5 to possibly 12 range.......
Does he remind anyone of Charles Barkley? (style of play, not potential to be great)
I can't help but think of Clarence Witherspoon if we're thinking of older players.
I Have never seen Brandon bass cross anyone over like Bennett he should be a top 10 if not lottery pick for sure
Both McAdoo and Bennett looked subpar, neither should be lottery picks. Bennett clearly struggled to score against UNC's length, he likely will not excel in the NBA as a PF. McAdoo also looks like a tweener, these arent the type of players you want to take in the lottery
From what I've seen from him , he looks to me like a clone of "Big Dog" Glenn Robinson , a super strong/athletic SF and IMO he truly has the skillset , quickness and agility to play the 3 in the NBA .
I've been saying it for a while, this guy is Larry Johnson 2.0. And I even see a little bit of Elton Brand as well due to his long wingspan and rebounding ability. Right now, the way he is playing plus his enormous potential makes him a top 5 pick.
Yep second coming of Larry Johnson. I've said that since he was a Jr and I posted that he would eventually be a player to watch and had top 10 talent in his class, fast forward to now and we can all see it. He is a legit 6'7. And a half but has a very long reach and wingspan plus very athletic with a motor. Right now scouts have him top 5 with a chance to go number 1 because no one has separated themselves in the battle for the top spot
If he can produce like LJ in the league he should be a top 5 pick..
