No-one has brought up the possibility that LeBron’s cramping is psychosomatic or at least partly so.

For those who don’t know, psychosomatic illness or injury is caused partly or wholly by psychological tension or conflict. The most obvious example is when you get stomach pains as a result of stress or anxiety, and there are many other examples. Some people think that no physical illness is truly free of mental/psychological stress, but is a manifestation of it.

So, to make this short – is the pressure LeBron put on himself getting to him?

This is a guy who has anointed himself King James, is a massive publicity and social media addict and it is well-known that he covets a legacy equal to that of His Airness. He probably also knows that that kind of overt self-seeking generates a whole bunch of hostility, haters, detractors and people who think the kid is a bit too emblematic of the entitled Millenial generation.

So is LeBron cracking under the pressure of achieving a three-peat? I guess we’ll see.

If I’m wrong, he deserves kudos and major respect. I could be right, however, and James could easily become a cautionary tale about entitlement, media hype and how this generation of young people has been raised.

Or he was just dehydrated.  Pressure doesn’t help, but I don’t think psychosomaticism should be the default assumption.  He may cramp up when dehydrated, like most people do.

…however, that no-one else in that game left with cramps suggests that it is a definite possibility.

Hey, my theory is not even that extreme – LeBron hater #1 Bernard Watkins of ihatelebronjames.com thinks that LeBron has perfect the art of the “pre-excuse.”

Are you really this dumb? If you are going to leave the game, why not do so earlier in the game when the Spurs had a decent lead? He had just scored fairly easily and just put them up by two before he left. The guy has had the issues before. I remember Tony Delk at Kentucky. He had the same issues. No one else left the game with cramps, but not everyone has the same body or work load. I’m not sure the Spurs had a guy average over 30 minutes during the season. Wade missed a third of the season. Not only does Lebron not miss games, he is expected play 40+ mins in the playoffs, to lead the team in scoring, rebounding, often facilitates the offense and takes on whatever defensive assignment is needed.

I am wondering if all the people that are bitching about Lebron were actually good enough at sports to even open up the possibility of cramping.

That’s Bernard Watkins’ theory not mine.

I’m going with the “pressure is getting to him” psychosomatic physical symptoms theory, which means he’s not faking but unconsciously bailing out.

Jesus I was someone talk about all the bullshit, hack theorying we could expect after game one but fuck sake. here’s a theory

    HE HAD CRAMPS!

I played australian football when I was 16-22 and I played 2 full games a week (sat and sun), trained three times a week… basically i was extremely fit but id still suffer from cramps frequently, as would some of my teammates. some people are just more predisposed to cramping from electrolyte imbalance when dehydrated.

but I’m sure the keyboard warriors will keep at it. god.
