Bynum has been coming on strong now that he is getting his rythm back. His size and physical play around the basket has been huge for the lakers and he is in my opinion playing just as valuable as pau gasol recently.

Over the last 9 games the lakers have gone 8-1 and have quieted all that criticism. No coincidence that in that span bynum has been getting more minutes and his averages over that 9 game span are:

    13.3ppg…8.6rpg…2.4blck…27.7min

I said it earlier, Bynum is showing why you don’t trade him and why when healthy, he’s as good defensively as Dwight since he actually has the size. Dwight’s a beast on D and guarantee’s you 50 wins off that, but he has trouble against guys his size. Bynum proved that 2 years ago. Bynum is a very underrated player when healthy IMO. Watching him this year has genuinely put smiles on my face. I had forgotten just how truely athletic he is when healthy. That size to be able to get up and down the court as easily as he does, along with his length and vert. The actually even has some quicks surprisingly. He’s making people eat their words this year. Hopefully he can keep this up, would LOVE to see him healthy for the playoffs.

The only guy who wants Bynum traded is DNYCE…

As a Laker fan, if Bynum is 100% for the playoffs or even close to it, I will be a very happy person, people begin to realize how valuable he is when he is healthy. He has a nice array of post moves thanks to being able to train with Kareem, he is very mobile and active down low, he rebounds very well and his length gives a lot of big men trouble. He may not possess freakish athleticism but he is very athletic in his own right and is actually a good post defender. He and Pau down low are two 7′ footers and are a major reason why the Lakers have been so successful and with Odom coming off the bench gives them even more size. Bynum is in a good place right now, he is able to defer from Pau and Kobe and still be able to get his and contribute when needed to them. He also has great footwork.

Trade him while his value his high. I personally think this guy is soft mentally and has proven he cannot stay healthy.

Bynum isn’t exactly an enforcer down low, but I don’t know if he’s really soft mentally. He’s very injury prone though obviously.

yeah i agree with the injury. He’s a pretty good defender though. Knows how to get to certain positions to make it harder for the defender to score, pretty good shot blocker

Not sure how he’s overrated though when he is considered a good young center that will get better. i guess to some that could be considered overrated , those who think he’s not a good young center who wont get better

Bynum doesn’t have to be a Dwight Howard type enforcer down low. His presence causes a lot of problems for teams because now all the Laker’s bigs get to play in their right position, and Bynum’s size causes problems in itself. Bynum doesn’t have to have a major, individual statistical impact on the game for him to affect it.

Sorry, but Bynum is not on the same level as Howard, defensively.

teams focus on how to defend KOBE and the lakers. Teams change their offensive scheme against howard and the magic… he is that much of a force.

Not on LAL dwight wouldn’t make people change their defense. He’s nowhere near the offensive talent Bynum is, let’s not kid ourselves. While I agree Dwight is the bigger anchor stat wise, and recognition wise, but that is where it ends. JNixon, watch a Laker game, Bynum changes things defensively. And this year, seems to have really taken to the role of defensive anchor as they’ve began to let him play the Duncan role defensively with Pau coming out meeting the penetrating offensive player allowing Bynum to stay exclusively down low to be the final line of defense, an ANCHOR.

It isn’t always about how many blocks a guy gets. When Bynum is in the game, opposing teams are almost SCARED to drive and when they do he either alters shots, or gives a hard foul that causes the offensive player to thinktwice about driving again. Kid is just too big. Dwight will never be able to guard opposing bigs in the post the way Bynum can. It’s like comparing Timduncan and KG defensively. One is guards the paint better, the other plays all over the court more. Plus Dwight’s awareness is somewhat lower than his numbers state. He goes for the pump fake FAR too often as he tries block literally EVERYTHING, making himself overly aggressive on D causing him to get into foul trouble more often than he should.

FYI, Bynum is able to guard KG, Bosh, Amare far better than you would expect. Over 7 games they will get their numbers, but have a hell of a time getting there, just ask Amare. And I wouldn’t say Bynum is mentally weak as he played through the playoffs injured. That shows mental toughness in itself. Playing for Phil Jackson is no easy task either. The mentally weak usually either strengthen or go. Two of Bynum’s injuries were freak accident’s having landed on Lamar’s foot once (similar to Perkins in the finals), and had Kobe fall backwards into it the second time. The achilles injury was odd I give you that much.

For the record, Bynum was P’Wned last night by Lopez. Some questionable calls, but still should have done better. Was having trouble with his size and Pau like skill level. Noah, Lopez, and Shaq are the few centers left who Bynum truely has issues with. Activity, for the first two, and Shaq can still beast for games. Bynum happens to be one of those games because he plays for LAL. Shaq will not be denied in those old school versus new school battles.

I have a feeling though Dwight may give him more trouble than usual this year as well due to his somewhat developed post game mixed with his motor/athleticism, will probably give him the upper hand in the regular season. 7 game series I’ll still take Bynum. Just my personal preference.
